The carbon dioxide levels in the 20th century have been highest in 650,000 years. Till 1950, the levels rose by 11% and recently the levels have risen by 40%. Arctic ice is melting rapidly. It is estimated that by 2040 the region is to have a completely ice free summer, or even earlier. More than 1 million species have become extinct due to disappearing habitats caused due to global warming. Sea levels have risen about 7 inches in the last 100 years, which is more than the previous 2000 years combined. The rising sea levels due to global warming could threaten the lives of people living along the coastal areas. Climate change is a problem that we have been and are currently experiencing. It has caused much damage to people and the environment, by temperatures rising and natural disasters. It is a problem that world leaders need to take more seriously, and try to get more people involved to help better the environment. Who knows what it can cause in the future. Climate change can be defined as a significant change in the “average weather” of any given region sustained in the long-term and can be caused by Earth 's dynamic processes, external forces including variations in sunlight intensity, and also by human activities (USEPA, 2014).

These natural fuels include: Coal, oil and natural gases. Humans have to burn these fuels in order to create vital essentials to life such as energy and electricity. Unlike plants, when we burn these fuels for electricity and energy, Carbon dioxide is released into the Earth’s atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency cites heat waves, extreme weather events, reduced air quality, and climate-sensitive diseases among the threats to human health that are associated with climate change.

What will happen to the future of humanity if climate change is allowed to have its way with the human race? What disasters will climate change force upon civilization? According to NASA, January 2016 was the hottest January as it was 1.13 degrees Celsius above the 1951-1980 average (Erdman, 2016). Humans participate in increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases that act like a blanket that traps the heat. And this appear from the combustion of fossil fuel and the different industries which release a large amount of CO2.
