I had my clinical rotations at Westwood View Elementary. The school is under the Shawnee mission School District (SMSD). It is located in the city of Westwood, North East corner of Shawnee mission. The school’s population is about 305 children, ages 5 - 11 and 12, ranging from kindergarten –sixth graders. The school has only one school nurse. Westwood community is not an economically deprived area, so, the children have enough resources for their education.
Some of the kids go through emotional and psychological stress which come from Parents divorce, parents wanting their children to be the best in class, making them go above and beyond their academic limits My main involvement with this agency was teaming up with the school’s nurse to provide care for the students. I was able to use the nursing process in providing care to those young students. They would come in with all sorts of complaints, like an abrasion on their skin, or with a sore throat, or some of the students who have ADHD, who usually take their medications at certain times come in

Almost all the students that were tested had the same result. I knew about this from the “glow germ” activity that we performed for the students. The aim of this activity is to teach students the importance of handwashing. How the activity works, we come to the class with the glow kit which comprises of a box with an inbuilt mercury light called Glitter Bug Lamp. It also contains the Glitter Bug Potion, which is a UV disclosing lotion. This lotion is the pretend germs which the kids will apply on their hands, it glows when exposed to the glitter bug lamp. Then, they’ll be asked to go scrub their hands and wash off the germs with soap and water. When they finish washing their hands, they bring it under the lamp for inspection, that is when they’ll see the parts left
This again could have a huge influence as a lot of looked after children are moved around regularly. This will effect their education enormously. Separation and attachment issues are quite often the cause of many reasons not to want to be in school. This is constantly worked on by schools to find the best way to include these children in school and to be able to give them a good standard of education.
This experiment illustrates the importance of handwashing and proves that hand washing is worth it. Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with ourselves and others, touching surfaces, grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc., keeping our hands clean is one of the most effective, yet simple way we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water. “The human skin is a host to anywhere between 10,000-10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter and since health care providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being engaged in patient care, hand washing can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page 3).” The objective of the experiment is to test the effectiveness of hand washing and demonstrate normal flora. This report presents the procedures and materials for the experiment, the experiment's results, and an analysis of those results.
In today’s society students aren’t pushed in high school to pursue their full potential, which makes students think they don’t need to put hard work into school making them lazy. The outcome of this is bad grades and upset parents making them believe they aren’t smart and that is why they are getting the grades they are receiving. In actuality these students aren’t being pushed and the teachers aren’t tapping into their talents to show them the full academic potential they have.
The New Horizon Academy in Saint Michael collaborates every December with Toys for Tots to raise money for children in need in the community (K. Hillyard, Personal Communication, September 18, 2017). * Illness/disability- this can cause a child/children to miss out on a large chuck of the education and struggle to achieve due to them taking
with their peers. Many people do not consider that a child's life extends further from just school.
A lot of the children try to escape through on-line gaming. They buckle under the pressure at the universities and stop going to classes.
I had the privilege of going to Smith Elementary School in Long beach for my clinical rotation. I didn 't know what to expect before going in, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with friendly smiles. Nurse Olga was the most friendliest nurse and she showed me how things worked around her facility. They have computer system program that shows all the teachers can look at to find out their student’s health conditions. The nursing office had pretty much all the basic equipments that she would need to take care of her patients. My activities included signing in patients as they came in, prioritizing care based on complaints. Checking patient 's temperature was very common and I had to call several parent to pick up their children due to fever and malaise. I learned how to give vision and hearing test to children. Couple patients had routine medications like Albuterol and Clonidine. Most of all I had to treat basic wound care.
because they didn’t understand how all the extra time in school and homework helps them work
I spent the days with both the health aide and nurse and at some points, the nursing assistant in the dressing room. I not only managed to assist the health aide in documentation, filing and taking vitals, but observed the assessment and vaccination of children and dressing of wounds. The same principles learnt the previous day was learnt in terms of interpersonal skills, especially the need to not be really harsh in one’s demeanor. I came to realize that despite it being nice working with children, I can’t see myself doing in the long haul; it’s just not for
In my previous observations, I observed a class of five years old. Every time I went to do my observations the students were always doing work such as copying new sight words five times or learning how to add and subtract. The teachers were training the students to prepare for a state kindergarten test and the students were only in school for 3 weeks. The students were not making good

Provided comprehensive nursing care in admissions, bedside nursing, staffing of the unit and parent-centered care.
Once these children begin school they might appear bright and highly intelligent, but unable to keep up with their peers in reading and writing. They test well orally, but when given a written test on the same subject they can fail miserably. Others might seem dumb or lazy, when in fact their efforts just go unnoticed. These students can feel dumb, which results in a low self-esteem; they try to hide these features with compensations. Some compensations might be that they excel in other areas
In my placement as a second year student, most of my duties are focused on providing nursing care and general ward
Another personal related problem is jobs. Most students are working part-time in order to support themselves and their family which at times will lead to intrusion with school hours, home works, no time for studying especially to major exams and various school activities which otherwise leads to failing grade. Peer pressure is also another factor wherein these students are being led to bad influences such as drinking, drug which causes a major side effect to students (Schwartz, 1995). Schools do this in order to handle their problem. Students from broken homes are also likely to drop out of school due to the stressful situation that they have to go through and thus affect their concentration in school. Furthermore, most students who dropped out of school don't like school to begin with. These students will rebel and do anything against the school rules in order to be kicked out (Schwartz, 1995). They are likely to fail on their subjects, doesn't get along with other students, and have disciplinary problems. Oftentimes, disciplinary actions are taken before they are dropped out.
