The two fictional public organizations I have decide to discuss is the Turn City Animal Association and the Hillside Park and Recreational department. Now both of these organizations are state funded but one is considered to be a closed organization and the other is open. Now when talking about an open and closed structured organization we must first know what that means. A closed organization is an organization where everything is closed off from the outside environment. This means that all of their information is kept within the system or organization. Now this can create a huge problem for the organization because the flow of their information stays within the system which means it has no chance of interacting with any other system. Furthermore, …show more content…
These organizations take care of matters for the public and then they inform the government about them by either voting, protests, or by debates. It is a known fact that the public demands service and the Government, as an elected representative and official has a duty to adhere to their wishes. Therefore, the two organizations I have chosen to write about are Turn City Animal Association and Hillside Park and Recreations.
The Turn City Animal Association is a closed organizational system. They operate under the city government of Turn City and report to the City Manager. They help control the animal population as well as teach classes on how to take care and treat animals. Any information received by them is passed on though documents to the city government and closed council meeting. They function totally off of the city’s help and depend on the city. Everything that is done by is done to impact the animal association and the city. Therefore, they don’t look for any other outside help in doing their

The Hillside Park and Recreation need the feed by from the public and gives the public feedback by letting them know what is going on. Now the Turn City Animal Association does not really need the feedback from the public and they operate within the city government letting them know what is going on with the animal problems within their city. Therefore, both groups work for the government but the Turn City Animal Association is a closed system within the city government which means they don’t release out of information out to the public unless it is necessary but the Hillside Park and Recreational department is an open system which depends on the public and let them know what is going on in their community. Therefore, they both belong to a city government but they operate under two different systems. Furthermore, they are both designed to help the community as well as make sure they are protected. Each organization has their own duties to perform within the city government which make them similar but they have different ways of preforming them. Therefore, they have to answer to the same people like the community and the city government but the Hillside Park and Recreational Department answers more to the community then Turn City Animal Association. Although, they are similar they are different as well as their day
“Think back on (or read again) the discussion in Chapter 2 about the functions that nonprofit organizations perform with regard to government. How does the case of the National Trust for Historic Preservation reflect those various roles?”’
This essay is a case study analysis of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), which was formed in 1876. The AMC was established to bring people together to conserve and enjoy the out-door wilderness. Volunteerism has been a major tradition of the AMC, which separates the club from other environmental organizations. AMC’s close group of volunteers gives the club a sense of community. AMC operated for years as a highly decentralized, highly voluntarily managed organization, but as memberships grew, and chapters formed, the organization would need to hire paid staff. By the late 1970s to late 80s, AMC was faced with financial deficits. Thus, by 1989 Harvard MBA graduate Andy Falender was employed as the new executive director of AMC. Falender would restructure the club, and fix its financial crisis.
Non-government agencies have a specific role in our communities, and comprise of either individual organisations with specific issues, (eg. Heart disease, asthma) or whole populations, (eg. Aboriginals, people with HIV/AIDS). They offer specific knowledge, experience and access to individuals in need of assistance. These services are contracted out by the Government, but are funded both privately and by the government also. (Public Health in Australia 1998)
They argue that the state governments are not extensive enough to provide these services and many others and that a strong central government will be able to provide these services more effectively. Take for example, the national parks, which are managed by the National Park Service and are a piece of American culture. Strong central government advocates say that states cannot maintain a uniform standard of upkeep, because of the differences of politics and cultures. The state parks and wildlife in Georgia are managed differently than the parks and wildlife in California. They claim that a federal government is necessary to make sure that all parks are kept up and well maintained, to provide a pleasurable experience for all who attend.
In this article, Jennifer Mosley and Colleen Grogan, professors at The University of Chicago, concludes that the more public participation in administrative decision making in different urban areas is an important target in majority of public organizations. The author states that many public agencies develop different strategies on who should be able to participate in open decision making. The strategies determined how they will prevent different type of biases. Often leaders of the nonprofit organizations are asked to serve as representatives of the community in a variety of participatory processes. They came up with something called mixed-methods. Mixed-methods are used in order to address whether residents believe nonprofit
Organizations in the community can have many purposes. For example, in my community of New York there is a museum called the Hispanic Society of America. This museum shows Hispanic culture through artwork. The mission of the Hispanic Society of America is to represent the life of every Hispanic person, no matter the difference, to share the Hispanic culture with anyone who visits, and to provide free educational programs to the community.
Animal Registration plays an important role in this document, it allows councils to encourage responsible pet ownership in the registering of their animals, as well as giving council a look into the number of animals in their region. The revenue collected by councils for the enforcement of registering of animal’s plays a significant role in how council provides services to the community which include:
State and local governments truly benefit off of people who are the voice of their community. These citizens do not sit around and do nothing about an issue that affects them. These citizens engage in political affairs such as neighborhood groups (Bowman and Kearney, 2014). For instance, some neighborhood groups are established to create a better place for everyone to live. These groups participate in issues that are going on around their community. Neighborhood associations have the ability to go to court about concerns on issues. There are also environmental groups, which work towards clean water and air, the use of natural resources, and protecting wildlife. Another organization is social justice. These advocates are determined to
People who work for the park are experts in planning, conservation and land management. They help to care for the landscape and look after the needs of visitors. They are also concerned about the people who
The use of special districts to administer parks and recreation services originates from a successful experiment by New York City in SSSS. The city created a commission to depoliticize the provision of parks and recreation services, which led to the development of Central Park. Following this model of success, a number of states now have some form of park district that span a range of services, including open space protection, land conservation, environmental education, and leisure activities. Local governments increasingly offload parks and recreation responsibilities to special districts because they require large capital investments and they benefit from district boundaries drawn according to public use. The impact of tax limitations and pressure on general funds also encourages development of park districts. Flickinger and Murphy () provide insight from a park director in Illinois who believes special taxing status is essential because park and recreation departments tend “to take a back seat to streets, police, fire, utilities, and other ‘mandatory’ services when time came to set or cut budgets and hire qualified personnel” (1990, p. 153).Though parks and recreation are a common form of district, research evaluating its success is limited in both quantity and scope.
Common actors in western resource battles also include federal agencies, and environmental nonprofits, which can operate at a variety of levels. Often times tensions arise between local groups and environmentalists who are not considered to be part of the local community and are characterized as
In this paper I am going to discuss the non-profit organization The Mountain Post Historical Post Association (MPHA) and compare their reports to the one’s from my text book; Alliance for Nonprofit Management in Exhibit 7.12. I will identify which reports are in use and compare them to what is listed in the text book. I will also explain how effective these reports are for the organization. Let’s start by reviewing the monthly reports that the MPHA board has during the board meetings.
Though business-like mechanisms can create a more efficient and potentially innovated government, government and business should be run differently, since they are inherently different in their conceptual values. Appleby explains some of these differences. He argues that no one can serve the public as it should be served unless he or she has a public-interest attitude with certain special characteristics. In addition, business has much narrower extent, while public officials are more broadly stimulated, with a breadth of view and a public-interest attitude. Government is complex as well as vastly interdependent with many other nonprofit and private organizations. Also, the government is subject to public scrutiny and public outcry. According to Denhardt and Denhardt, government acts, in concert with private and nonprofit groups and organizations, to seek solutions to the problems that communities face. In the process, the role of government is transformed from one of controlling to one of agenda setting, bringing the proper players to the table, facilitating, negotiating, or brokering solutions to public problems—often through coalitions of public, private, and nonprofit agencies. Finally, government is different from business
The structure of an organisation is built in order to achieve the distinct tasks by the labour and coordination between teams to provide goods and services. Organisational structure is selected in order to have a basic work and consistency according to the situation. The most foremost factors in an organisation are skilled labours, mutual understanding among the fellows and direct control to frame a good result. A good structured organisation results in quality production, which can be taken into peoples consider through marketing. When an organisation tracks in a solid structure, management plans and tasks can be easily constructed and executed. In this essay, I have been explained about the concept of Mintzberg five
