In conducting a research study about college completion, I must generate a hypothesis that correlates with the situation that college students are facing when it comes to them finishing their post-higher education. Within reading the U.S Department of Education statements about the college completion rate for students with low economical and higher- economical background helps me set my hypotheses, Economical background affects graduation rates. Within my research study for college completion, I would use the method of Secondary data analysis. I would use this method because data has already been researched by universities and the government to study the dropout and the graduation rates as well as the demographics of the study body. I would
Bertha, M. (2014). Pro-Life, Pro-Choice : Shared Values in the Abortion Debate. Nashville: Vanderbilt University Press. https://fortlewis.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search- ebscohost-com.fortlewis.idm.oclc.org/login.aspx?direct=true&db=edspmu&AN=edspmu.9780826519924&site=eds-live&scope=site Throughout this book, Bertha claims that she is for pro choice, but at the end of the reading, she states that she has changed her beliefs to pro life. This specific author performed studies, exams, courses, and clinicals and discovered the facts about the harm that takes place to your body after having an abortion. Bertha discusses the hard, mental griefs and traumas that follow the procedure, as well as the uneasy argument about the virtuous worth of the human fetus. The author brings experience to the discussion through the psychological department, being an Associate Professor of Philosophy in the School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies at Arizona State University, as well as having written many informative and knowledgeable articles.
College Success: Chapter 1 is a great recourse for every student whether they are experienced or not. Specifically, descriptions about the best possible choices made to get the most out of your experience are plentiful, and self-assessments are included to evaluate a starting point. If one were to follow the step-by-step advice given, such as overcoming obstacles and enriching your learning experience, it would be close to impossible not to have a great experience at college. The author wasn’t afraid to delve deep into the fact that college is difficult and requires a lot of commitment to follow through. The information given is easily suitable for a wide range of students, including anything from discovering resources many colleges offer,
As an adolescent I had many birth issues and illnesses including asthma. These issues had kept me out of school, giving me less time to learn the basics of reading, writing, and math. Because my mother coached varsity volleyball at Novi High School, most of my childhood was spent in the gym. My father did not always have the best grades, in fact high school was the same for both of us; however, as he continued to college he had increased his study habits and earned himself over a 3.0 GPA. My two sisters are both really school smart, and then there was me, the one who struggled with school. In my Junior year my father got sick and I was on constant worry about my family and how he was doing. School became harder for me to focus on because of this issue and none of my teachers helped me out with the number of assignments. Family was always first with us, then it was education and school, and continued off with friends and fun such as sports.
In “Kentucky Could Become The Only State Without A Clinic That Performs Abortions”, an article by Sarah McCammon, address the issue of Kentucky’s only abortion clinic is at risk to be terminated. Gov. Bein has attempted to shut down the clinic once before by telling the “clinic that it was failing to meet state health regulations requiring clinics that provide abortions to have transfer agreements with local hospitals and ambulance services in case of medical emergencies.” During the process of the legal action that seemed to come “out of the blue”, the clinic came very close to being forced to close. While speaking Brigitte Amiri, an attorney representing the clinic, she says the “stakes are very high” causing the reader to feel empathy for
I challenged a belief or idea was in yearbook. Students in the week’s section was making a page about our GSA (gay straight alliance) club being in the pride festival parade. A picture had a girl who we believe was going through the transition of becoming transgender. Under the pictures, we would put their name and their grade, but this time it was a problem. Transitioning students sometimes go by a preferred name if or when they are going through that transition. The yearbook is used as a legal document due to having the student’s legal name in the book, but what about the students who are becoming transgender? Students going through transition might be difficult to figure out a solution for. I believe if a student is brave enough to go through that while in high school, they should get the name they want in a public document.
During my high school years, I have attended social studies classes every year and got positive results from each one of those classes. I have chosen two artifacts, both of them taught me something valuable for the future. The first artifact that I used is from the American History class. I was assigned to write my political views on the controversial topic of abortion. I have previously written about this topic in the Political Science, which made this assignment much easier for me. However, I had to make some adjustments to meet the requirement intruded by the teacher. For example, the essay that I did for Political Science class had only the information about the topic. For American History class, I had to write on my views. Since I had
Support legislation and opposition Relating to notice of and consent to an abortion for a minor.
This paper will explore the number of abortions being performed, why they are being performed and, also should it remain legal to have an abortion? In 2013 over 664,000 legal abortions was reported to the CDC from 49 different areas. In 2013 the abortion ratio was 12.5 per 1000 women. (Abortion Surveilence 2013, n.d.) In 2013 health research funding reported that lest than 1% of these abortions were due to rape or incest. Now if we just sit back and look at these numbers they are astounding. That is 664,000 lives took with someone else deciding their life.
Although, there are some disadvantages about using secondary data. For example, if the expert collecting the information had other purposes in mind or if the data is interpreted in a different way could affect the validity of the research analysis. Also, the person or people collecting this data may only capture the information needed to prove their point or even manipulate the statistics. Nonetheless, a secondary data analysis is a suitable option because of the reasons previously mentioned, albeit probable disadvantages exist.
Teenage girls are more likely to get an abortion. There has been approximately 750,000 teen pregnancies that occur each year. The teens are unmarried and they think that it would be easier to get an abortion as to have a child. ( Facts & statistics about Teen abortions). If you are under the age of 18 your state may require you to have one or both of your parents to give you permission to have the abortion, or be told your decision prior to the abortion.(abortion information.). Girls that tend to get pregnant are the ones that don't think they will. Then they get stuck having to make a drastic decision, either keeping the child or getting rid of it. Some people say an abortion is one of the safest surgical procedures for women in the U.S.
The Catholic college student, I talked with was Vanessa Chen. While interviewing her I asked, "What is your view on abortion?" She said, "I think abortion should be made legal and readily available for the first trimester. Late trimester abortions should be considered on a case by case basis. Special allowance should be made for circumstances like rape or incest." When asked if she thought males have a different point of view on abortion, she told me "I think men, especially male politicians hold a different point of view on anti-abortion because they don't get pregnant themselves." When asked if she thought her opinion was influenced by her religion she explained, "It doesn't affect me because I don't let my religious beliefs limit the way I think about issues that seriously impact millions of women."
The topic that I found to be the most interesting idea in the course is the subject on Abortion. I use to thought that if a woman is pregnant it would be wrong for her to go through with an Abortion because of my religious believe. I thought that if individual put their self in a situation where they end up getting pregnant the individual should take their responsibility and take care of the baby. For the reason that the baby is innocent and did not do anything to be hurt or to have their future taken from them. But after going over that topic for an assignment in the class I came to the understanding that sometimes it would be right for an individual to go through with an Abortion even though the individual would rather keeping or giving their
For my final paper I have decided to do a on the ethical and controversial issue of abortion. In this report I will cover both sides of the abortion issue. I will summarize the stands of both Pro-Life advocates and Pro-Choice, by presenting arguments from organizations, authors, and journal articles from each side. As well as give a brief history on abortion and a look at the laws that govern this issue not only here at home but around the world. In conclusion of my report I will give my views on the issue and on which side of the fence my beliefs put me on. So lets begin.
Primary and secondary sources are ways in which data can be retrieved. As Serakan (2006) stated, “Primary data refer to information obtained by the researcher on the variables of interest for the specific purpose of the study”. Various evidence suggesting to what methods of primary research can be conducted and which are most effective for the previously mentioned problem description are stated in this chapter.
