Prior to my time in college I had very little experience with programming or computer systems in general. I spent time in high school helping the IT department with hardware work and a term of middle school working with HTML but it was all incredibly limited and as throughout my life I have enjoyed computer entertainment but I have set my sights on something different now.
We are hurtling ourselves into the future at an ever increasing pace, there is no stopping, there is no turning back, technology has made returning to a simpler time impossible, it is the job of our technicians and scientists to make sure our trajectory is for the good of all mankind. Computer Science, to me, is connection and understanding the world in different yet intertwined

Something that many people handle well is the balance between perseverance and knowing when to give up, I find that due to the hardships I have faced in life I have reasonable balance of the two. I have had several significant hardships in my life at critical times and have had to find my own way because of it. When I was growing up my parents were teenagers and couldn't raise me so my grandparents did. My grandfather died the summer before my freshman year in high school. I went back and graduated high school after dropping out. I have spent time as a construction worker, working the in the cruise industry, working on a railroad and at a radio station and in each and every one of those fields computer systems made them possible. Life has never been easy and I doubt it will get better without more effort being poured in but I know that this doesn't have to be the case for myself or anyone else. I made some poor choices and had some unfortunate things happen in the last term. As it was my first at the University I was unsure of how tough the work load would be, I took both electromagnetic physics and Linear Algebra, which the advisors had advised against doing but I decided to take a chance. I have never done so poorly in my life. I started the term off rough getting sick but it compounded as my baby sister ended up in the hospital three times throughout the term further increasing the difficulty I was
My freshman year at Cornell University, I was sitting in a Computer Programming and Meteorology class when Professor Mark Wysocki(the New York State Climatologist) succeeded in attracting me to the study of computer graphic information systems through nothing more than a single sentence. He argued that, when a company adopts computer programming as the chief form of technology, it frees itself to pursue new boundaries, because new computer languages can always be created for each new problem.. I was immediately fascinated by the idea that the computer programming can alter individual lives, affect one's identity, and perhaps even shape national identity.
Learning to deal with and overcoming adversity is what made me who I am. Every challenge and every difficulty I’ve successfully confronted in my life served as a way to strengthen my will, confidence and ability to conquer future obstacles. A famous quote I liked came from Herodotus, the Greek philosopher, who said, "Adversity has the effect of drawing out strength and qualities of a man that would have lain dormant in its absence.” When I responded positively and constructively to my biggest challenges, the qualities of strength, courage, character and perseverance emerged from deep within, because I am human, it was very easy to get caught up in the self-pity, unfairness of life, or the “why me?” trap. When I did think like that, I learned that I failed to recognize the opportunities for wisdom and growth that accompanied adversity. However, as soon as I allowed myself to think more clearly, I was able to let go of self-defeating and unproductive thoughts and get down to the business of dealing with what was happening before me and what can happen for me in my future. My failures and setbacks have nothing to do with me being a menace to society instead I had to realize it’s something every human being goes through. It’s a part of life and has everything to do with being human. Circumstances to me now mean nothing. Limitations don’t hold me back.
Life normally doesn’t go the way you plan when you’re young. When I was little, I figured that when I was at the age of graduation I would be totally prepared to go off my own. As I sit and think about the topic of how my life is going, several thoughts pour into my mind. First, I think of how lucky I am. The past two years could’ve changed my life because of bad health. Through weeks and months of hospitals stays and hours spent in the doctor’s office and in the emergency room, I’ve come out lucky and I have almost returned to good health. Second, I think of those friends who I thought would be there for my whole life that are no longer a part of my life. I also look to the people who I never thought would be there by my side and realize
All my life I have grown up with electronics around me, I was born in 1998 when computers were starting to take off to change the world and eventually mines as well. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, my entire life; I was a reclusive kid growing up, my mother always wanted me at home due to the violence in the city. My life consisted of going to school, my focus in life, and coming home to play video games or use the computer, as a result I was very introverted. My way of expressing myself was a Windows XP PC with the bulky monitor, very primitive by today's standards; it provided me with a means of allowing me to break out my shell it developed me into a more uninhibited person, I learned many things such as how to communicate my feelings with
I became interested in computers during the early 1990s and it happened right in my house. Within my community no one really knew what a "programmer" was or how to become one. At first, programmers were the engineers the circuits and processors. In April 1990, I volunteered to help my brother, a Computer Information Systems major at UTPA, to program the IBM-1401. I was 13-years old, had graduated from high school five years later, and decided to study the field of computers, specifically information technology (IT). In today’s high-tech world, virtually every business needs computer networking professionals to set up and maintain an in-office network (Irvine, 2011). This includes a variety of tasks such as engineering the network infrastructure, administering Windows systems and maintaining an email system (Irvine, 2011).
After many decades elapsed, nowadays, the quality of human life is growing better. Human beings always search and invent new things in order to meet their needs. There are not only changes in the way that people dress and behave, but also there are many changes in forms of entertainment. In the past when technologies had not developed much, people usually entertained by getting together to dance, sing, or listen to music; many of them went to a small bar in the community to drink or play cards. Today is completely distinct from the time in the past. With innovative science and modern technologies, the entertainment has become easier and more convenient for all people. Everyone can relax and amuse themselves wherever and whenever with modern electronic devices such as cell phone, tablet, LCD TV, laptop, etc. Therefore, technology has become part of our life. Many people say that we could not do anything without technology; it helps people to make work easier. In fact, technology not only impacts our daily lives, but it also has a strong influence on the criminal justice system. If law enforcement officers apply technology to their investigations, it will assist to make the investigations less difficult and more efficient. So, what has the technology already helped to make an improvement in the criminal justice field, and how has it impacted on the law enforcement?
When I go to the University of North Carolina Asheville, I will bring with me a curiosity that only those who make the biggest technological breakthroughs in the world possess. Throughout my life I have had the opportunity to grow and adapt with technology as it becomes one of the biggest markets in the world. At the young age of ten, I was introduced to the computer world. I was immediately intrigued and found one of the many passions I would come to find. This is just the beginning of my future.
As a little girl, I dreamed of attending college and having a career. Others my age were preoccupied with dreams of the perfect wedding or husband, but I was busy envisioning myself attending a prestigious university, acing my classes and becoming a successful woman. Along the way, the profession I aspired to be has changed, the desire to go to an ivy league school has changed, but the dream to attend college has never faltered. I have overcome many challenges and setbacks on this journey, but at 28 years old I am finally ready to take the leap and fulfill my dreams. Growing up there was no one in my life that told me I could be whatever I wanted to be.
This being said, I have met some resilient people that against all odds obtained an education and/or landed a job making a pretty good salary and they attribute their success to remaining positive through difficult times and using their struggles as lessons from life that happens.
Since I was a child, I have been interested in computers, which unfortunately led me to destroying a few of my parents as a toddler. However, I as became older I was able to hone in my skills and began working at my high school’s IT department, where I became the school’s first Student Technology Associate. As the Student Technology Associate, I worked
Throughout my life I've come to be heavily involved in just about all things technology and it's developed into something I've become passionate about. I began working on computers as early as 7th grade and I moved on to doing freelance work for friends and family, as well as taking Computer servicing classes my sophomore & junior years of high school. Beyond high school I had a falling out with technology, and I believe this was necessary in order for me to realize that it's a field that I love and excel
Have you ever wished that you could wake up with not a worry in the world? I know I have but life hits hard doesn’t it? As a young child in elementary school or even not in school yet life is easy I would say. The kids don’t have too much on their plate, all they are worried about is nap time, snack time, recess time you know fun thing. Then suddenly you grow up! Remember all the fun times you had? Now it’s all about work time, class time, dinner time heck half the time we don’t even know what bed time is. Although it all may seem scary and hard there are ways to balance school, work and family.
All of my life I have heard about the dangers of an excess amount of screen time. I have heard that it affects your vision, sleep schedule, energy, overall mood, and even success in school or on the job. In the past I may have disagreed with these statements because of my stubborn personality and because of my own inclination of overusing such technological devices, but now I have come to somewhat agree with these accusations against social medias, video games, and television. I look on how it has seemingly affected my own life, and I lean towards the arguement of the first passage. At times I even wonder what my life would be like without the large amount of exposure I have to these devices on the daily.
I have lived in the unites states all 6200 days of my life. I have moved once, been to 5 different schools in two districts, and traveled out of state numerous times. I have learned a lot in my time as an American, and the various aspects of my life have shaped me into who I am today. One such aspect is modern day technology. Technology is such an integral part of our society, that governments could collapse if it were to disappear, and with it, our way of life.
In life everyone will face some form of hardship. Some people may not go through as many hardships as some others might but we all still have our own personal problems. In my life I have not faced many hardships like some others have which I am very grateful for such things not happening to me. But even though I haven't gone through many hardships I have still had my own fair share of personal hardships. One such hardship I have gone through twice is overcoming the death of a loved one.
