Living in the big city of New York would be the experience that would allow me to mature not only as an adult, but as a journalist. Growing up in the suburbs of Santa Clarita, California, I have been surrounded by the same people with the same stories ever since I could remember. Therefore, the chance to meet and interact with a melting pot of individuals, reporting their stories and understanding their “why” is the opportunity I need that NYU would give to me. NYU is the perfect location for aspiring journalists, like myself, due to its diversity and opportunity-filled adventure; particularly, the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, which will teach me how to find and develop a story while reporting on location in the streets of New York.
To me college is like the next step of life to adulthood; it is where you get a taste of the authentic world and learn how to adjust and manage on your own. In addition, it can be a place of magnification and polished skills within a community that strives for a prosperous life with an effulgent vocation. Thus, attending college was compulsory for me in order to reach future goals, and North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) transpired to be just right for me. The distance was within range and they have an outstanding mechanical engineering program that I could solemnly benefit from. Overall, attending this university has opened many doors of opportunities that arrange with my personal and professional goals through their culture and community. Furthermore, I endeavor to put myself first and review my precedent accomplishments to strive for better while exposing myself to incipient challenges and obstacles.
I never had any idea what I wanted to do in college, much less after graduating. While my friends had clear visions of their future as neurological surgeons or following the footsteps of Ban-ki Moon, I was lost.
Something that make me smile, gets me excited, makes me do something is softball. I have played ball all since the day I could walk. I started off playing baseball since I was 2 years old. Then at age 8 I went on to play softball for a select softball team in Pearland. Playing softball has always made me smile! I love the intensity, excitement, and the teamwork that is used to play ball. We all look out for each other and try to pick each other up even when we are not all in the spirit. Some activities that involve science, technology, engineering, and math that I find to be fun is robotics and underwater robotics. Robotics has always been a big part in my life because my dad is a robotics teacher for this school and I always loved playing
My career goal is to be a successful fiction author and to publish over two full series. I’ve chosen this career because I’ve already started writing and I love it. I think that I’d be good at writing because I’m really creative and I love to read, then scribble down whatever pops into my head. I’m always in the middle of writing something and my finger hitting the computer keys is not an uncommon sound. This makes me assume that I’d be good at writing as a career.
As a person who was born and raised in New York City, the letters N, Y, and U are practically tattooed on my heart. NYU is legendary, its New York campus sits in a magical part of the city, no school can compare. There is something indescribable about New York and I cannot imagine leaving this place. New York City is my home, there is no substitute for its distinct hustle and bustle. There is a drive that only New Yorkers have, always rushing, racing, going; we simply move to a beat of our own. NYU is iconic, it is a part of every day life for us. From Langone Medical Center to NYU Film School, the work done at NYU is world renowned. NYU is the greatest thing that has ever happened to New York and I desperately want to be a part of its greatness.
I’ve always been the type of person to always plan ahead, to always assess each defining factor, and to always prepare myself for whatever life throws at me. As I type this, I look back and evaluate as well as reflect upon the very occurrences that have led me to where I am today: my family-my parents in particular, as they never made it through to college-so this process is new to everyone within my household, my own failures and successes, my community, and my education have all been vast influences on my character, especially my growth as a young adult. Recently, I’ve been pondering as to what will define me as an individual; what will have the greatest impact on me that will distinguish me from others, and more importantly what will help me apprehend my own goals? Everyone can say that they’re lives being the way they were guided them to the path they ended up on, and I know that is true too, but I feel there’s something more prominent as to why a person chooses to pursue a particular goal, career, or other dealings. This realization arose from my participation in the Regional Program for Excellence, a program that provides students with internships in fields they’re inquiring in before entering college, and my inquisitions regarding the significance as well as the impact on my rapidly changing life.
New York University is a school that amazes me in every aspect. With its WRITE QUALITIES. Nonetheless, the location of the school is what takes my breath away—New York City. To me, the city is a mystifying place left to be explored by its many inhabitants; a place of discovery, wonder, excitement, confusion, and opportunities. Diversity is a huge part of NYU as its student body contains numerous international students and people of color. The chance to learn about different cultures and ideas inspires me as the diversity doesn’t stop at the school’s buildings. It continues into every borough of the city and would allow me to connect with unique people and their backgrounds.
If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
I have a very good idea as to what career I would want after college. The plan for me would be for me to go get a MA in history after FDU and then go into education. I think the goal for me would be to get a Ph.D. in history, but that would be further down the line. But if I was not on this path my two other career options would be public relations and counseling.
I was always different from the other kids in my class. I was reserved and quiet. Most would tell me that I always look like I was in deep thought. Well that's because I was. I always thought that I thought deeper and viewed the world differently than other people my age. I had a great interest in people, in fact they fascinated me. I greatly enjoyed meeting new people and listening to their life or things they like. So I guess one could say my interest in Anthropology dates back to grade school. History was always my best subject, I would always sit at the front of the class "bright eyed and bushy tailed". But I especially loved when they talked about different civilizations of people and the thing they did. When it was time to decide where I wanted to go to college and
Being a Filipino, I grew up in a culture where education is of utmost important. When I entered high school in the Philippines, I was surprisingly surrounded by deep-pocketed students with remarkable talents and intelligence. Not like everybody else, I came from a middle-class broken family but that did not stop me from going to school. Later on, I became friends with some of the popular students in our school, and suddenly, made me part of the top of the food chain. I, then realized, am as good as them, but not better. Thus, I genuinely promised myself that I will do better in college.
I’ve always been that kind of guy who was good with numbers. Throughout my school years, I never had the desire to put in extra effort when it came to English classes or written works. My focus really seemed to rotate around a desire to be a hundred and ten percent into computers and technologies. I assumed that I would always have access to word processors or the Internet if I ever needed spell checking or literacy advice, or at least that’s how I summarized it. So, that philosophy only worked for so long, in a nutshell, less than two years into my first career job!
I am a Pakistani American with a passion for story telling. I believe in the power of truth and its relation to the storyteller. My initial attraction to the medium of acting was caused having a platform from which to be honest and direct without any fear of being judged or criticized.
Tears were running down my face as I reached for the remote, and switched the channel to NASCAR on FOX. As the race came on my TV, I listened to a pit reporter," Now let's send it up to Darrell Wallace, Mike Joy, and Jeff Gordon in the booth." I started to imagine myself having a job around motorsports while I was listening to the announcers Racing has been a passion of mine for several years. I considered pursuing a career in the journalism field. I did not do well in my high school English courses, so I was wondering if journalism was the best choice for me. As I sat back in my seat, I shook my head just thinking about the past. My immaturity in high school caused me not to do well in my English classes. The only way I would know if I journalism
While some frown upon age and look at is as just simply getting older, I have found it to be a great asset in my journey. As a student in my mid-30’s, my appreciation for world of academia is much different than what would be found from the average student. In the span of my lifetime, I have been fortunate to enjoy and explore a diverse set of interests. These experiences have allowed me to achieve goals I had never thought possible, and taught me that hard work and dedication can dissolve major obstacles into minor impediments. My path to this point could be considered different than most. After almost a decade out of a classroom, I returned to college with an unwavering commitment to earn my degree and accomplish a lifelong goal. For
