Passionate Leadership
Many people are born to lead and others learn to lead, but the one key ingredient in leadership whether you are born or taught, is passion. My passion is HR. I want to serve the employees of my company and try to make each interaction with HR a positive one, even in difficult circumstances. People are excited and motivated by others who are passionate about what they do. “Leadership is a relationship between those who aspire to lead and those who choose to follow” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p. 119). I will need to build a strong foundation with those I lead and passion and inspiration are just the beginning. For my foundation to be passionate, inspiring and strong I must be credible,

When a leader is willing to sacrifice, it displays selflessness. A former leader I had is my inspiration for this characteristic. She was selflessness in action on a daily basis. I would like my supporters to see I am not in it for myself, but that I am watching out for the well-being of the team. “When leaders accept that they are servant’s first, then they clearly know where they stand. And it’s not at the head of the line” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p. 124). I want to continually display that I am here for the team, not the other way around. “A passionate leader is one who suffers. A compassionate leader is someone who suffers with others” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p. 125). It is uplifting to follow a person who has suffered and sacrificed and knows what others have experienced. It is difficult to be moved by a leader who has no idea what it is like to sacrifice, as I have experience this first hand. It actually felt disrespectful to listen to a leader who had no idea what others on the team have experienced. To be led by a person who has experienced hardships, setbacks and loss, gives a sense of trust and confidence. This is an area as a leader I can personally connect with each and every person on the team. When you can share in another person’s heartache, it builds a bridge of faith, hope and …show more content…
The framing of the honest and selfless leader is service. I want to serve others. I want to give back. “Leadership is not about position. It’s about practice. Leadership is not conferred. It’s earned” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p. 123). As I strive to become a servant leader, I will lead by my beliefs and values and those come before anything else. These principles are how I live my life by and how I want lead my team or organization. “This type of leader is the first to do what has been agreed upon” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p. 123). Service of others is rewarding and keeps the hope alive. I want to lead by example by showing courage to my team, that no matter what the setbacks, we can move forward. I want to display a positive outlook by demonstrating that a negative can be turned into a positive with hope and determination. There is a profound benefit when you sacrifice yourself to serve another human being. “You cannot be a true servant leader unless you see yourself as a servant first. There’s no choice here. You either are or your aren’t. It comes with the territory” (Christian Reflections on the Leadership Challenge, 2004, p.
To be a successful servant leader one must have a true honest desire to want others around them to be successful. The major strength of the servant leader is their contribution of the organization they are leading. I believe this type of leadership really aligns
In the changing business environment, leaders of all organisations may face unprecedented uncertainty, especially the technology advancement and changes among the employees. To survive and succeed, leaders should have some necessary attributes. Meanwhile, some changes for leadership skills have to be made to confront the challenges.
Leadership is the elaboration of group inspiration. One person entrusted as leader can implore the aid, and support of supporters in the accomplishment of a common mission. According to Gurdjian, Halbeisen, and Lane “Becoming a more effective leader often requires changing behavior. But although most companies recognize that this also means adjusting underlying mind-sets, too often these organizations are reluctant to address the root causes of why leaders act the way they do” (Gurdjian, Halbeisen, and Lane, 2014) However, today abundant businesses engross importance on the improvement of leaders. Some of the ultimate leaders were formerly followers, such as in instructive businesses. One aspect as leaders many have to contemplate in striving
A leader for a good or bad cause, is a person who can gather different individuals under one accord and move towards the same objective. They are good at inspiring people. You may not always agree with their perspective. However, leaders are good at bringing people together. All exceptional leaders past and present possess integrity. It takes a strong individual to be a leader, but it takes an even stronger person to be a leader with integrity. A part of being a leader is setting standards for others to follow. Integrity is a characteristic that does not happen overnight. It is embedded in all outstanding leaders. Knowing to do the right thing when no one is watching takes strong determination. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey once described
Every leader has their own idea of what effectiveness looks like (Jones, 2015). For this study, authentic leadership will be the focus, as defined by Avolio, Gardner and Walumbwa (2004) an individual acting according to their values and convictions, building credibility and the respect and trust of those that follow. Authenticity is a choice that individuals must choose to embrace instead of a character trait that comes from within (Murphy, 2012). Outcomes of authentic leadership remain limitedly researched both theoretically and empirically (Miniotaite & Buciuniene, 2013). Authentic leadership lacks empirical evidence between the leader’s perception and the follower’s perception (Peus, Wesche, Streicher, Braun, & Frey, 2012). Wang, Sui, Luthans,
A leader is someone that others look to for guidance and instruction. He must be dependable and trustworthy. No one wants to follow someone who can’t get a job done, or someone who twists the truth. This falls in with the core value of integrity; he must be just. Even the most dependable leader can be dreaded if he fails to treat his followers with equality and respect. A good leader will make sure his team knows what they are supposed to be doing, but a great leader will also take the time to serve his followers and show them the proper way to conduct themselves. Question: What quality in leaders has been lacking in recent years? Connect your leadership experiences to what you see in the real world.
Is a leader as defined in the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, merely one who leads - synonymous with a boss? Or something more? I believe that a leader is much more than that and can be defined in any number of ways. In attempting to define a leader personally, I will use both myself and others as examples.
Great leaders don’t just tell they do, and I think that by leading with a servant heart means you do just that. You don’t just tell others that you’re the leader and expect them to follow you; you live your life in such a way that others want to look up to you as a leader in their life. You meet the needs of others and humble yourself always. A servant leader makes sure that all the people around them are set up for success in life.
The insight you relayed that “great leaders always help themselves and guide other people to do the right things” can be supported by the actions of the servant-leader. As a servant-leader, one should have the behavior of being supportive of their employees. The servant-leader should be involved in team-building, supporting their employees, listening to them, involving them in decision making, encouraging them, praising their progress and work production, and facilitating their interactions with others (Blanchard & Hodges, 2003). Employees desire a righteous leader who seeks the overall success of the organization. Proverbs 29:2 (NIV) states that “when the righteous increase, people rejoice, but when a wicked man rules,
The character Angel once said, "if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." This mentality has driven me to do what I can to help others, adhere to my ideals, and continually improve myself.
A leader needs to “believe” in oneself and have the confidence that whatever you say will excite and what you do can motivate others. You must be optimistic about what you do, do have some relevance for being in existence. Believe it or not, “leadership begins with you”.
3.Establish Trust - Establishing trust is an essential part of being a servant leader. Leaders who display sincerity, integrity, and candor in all their actions will inspire trust from followers. In the age of corporate scandals, a CEO's integrity has been tainted and employees feel less inclined to instinctively trust their leaders, making honesty an even more crucial part of
In class, so far, we have discussed many different topics about leadership. One being different leadership theories. The one that I feel most represents the leader I want to be in the future is servant leadership. When we discussed servant leadership it was defined as this leadership model is based on the leader and the followers wanting to serve others. Basically, this means the servant leader you put your focus on the needs of others before your own. The followers goal is to serve clients and the leader’s goal is to serve the employee and implement the organization mission statement. The leader supports other employees by noticing their goals and provide the proper support to help them reach those goals. This
To have great leadership, there needs to be a leader-follower relationship. The relationship can’t be effective without inspiration, involvement, and support from both participants. To develop this alliance, the leader must give extra effort to reach out to followers. The only way a leader can be successful is if the follower trusts the leader. The most important characteristic of a leader is to set a good example for their followers.
