Unlike most teens, I was excited to go to college and start over somewhere new. I wanted to leave behind all the drama that consumed my family; if I know one thing for sure, it’s that gossip spreads like wildfire. Getting away from that felt great because, and I know this will sound harsh, my parents have always had higher expectations of me. This is because they wanted me to be better than my siblings. My father always pushed me to do better in school, and at the age of 15 when he wanted me to get a job, I did. Family consists of the people who encourage you to do your best and follow the rules. I enjoy being independent, but sometimes I do shy away from social events, although I am improving. I try my best to get to know the people around me, and I have learned that it’s okay to make mistakes - you just need to learn from them. I have five older siblings, all of whom have not completed their education, and this is because they’ve all had obstacles that caused them to choose not to go to college. I am one of the few who has the motivation and drive to go to college and earn my degree. I’ve always wanted something more out of my life, but sometimes I would get caught up in personal issues and start to slack.
