What is college?
In my life I had failed over thousands of times. From my first attempt to ride a bike, falling and getting an ugly scar on my right knee or my first time entering a Pokémon tournament, getting eliminated in the first round. Even through these failures, I never felt discouraged. I got on my cousin bike the next and I entered many other Pokémon tournaments afterwards. My failures motivate me to try even harder and try to succeed the next time around. Always giving it all I got and a little more. One of my greatest failures that I had in my life was not taking school serious, more specifically my freshmen and sophomore math and history classes’ in high school. This misstep had taught me two major things that are important to have in this world, a college education, asking for help. These lesions that I learn helped me mature and prosper as individual.

In my family education was not really available do to poverty and lack of resources. My mother couldn’t even finish elementary, well my father only manage to finish middle school. They came to this country chasing the American dream of having a better life. They came with hope of giving my sibling and I a better life, a chance to become something more. I had failed to realize this at first; I was more caught up in trying to fit in with the crowd and getting in trouble. It wasn’t until late second semester of sophomore year did I realize my mistake. I was failing my common core 2-math class (which I passed with a low D) and I saw my high school transcript. I felt such disappointment and selfishness’; I had not only failed my parents but also failed myself. I was denying myself what billons of people such as my parents wish they had, a chance to prosper. Education is key to prospering in this world, that’s what I learn from my
I have been going to school since I was four years old and, that means that I have been attending school twenty to twenty two years, including kindergarten, middle school, high school and now college. As every student, I had my ups and downs in school; I had some failures and some successes. One of the failures that affected me the most and that I will always remember was the time that I was in high school during my junior year. I failed almost all my classes and, I only passed two classes and with a C. In the other hand I had some really good success. The most recent one and the one that I am still happy about is getting my Family Development Credential. We learn from our mistakes and also from our successes, these two times in my life
I failed to reach the top of the rock climbing wall on the playground, and as a result, I have strived even harder to reach the peak of success in everything I do. Instead of becoming discouraged and disappointed in myself, I found a way to improve myself for my next challenge. Learning from my mistakes has molded me into an improved person while giving me the motivation to keep pushing forward. Failure has taught me the importance of learning from your errors and trying again, no matter how difficult it may be. Without lessons like these, I would not be the motivated, independent person that I am today. I will continue to fail and try again until I achieve my goal of reaching the
Failure is a part of life. While many see failure as a negative thing, I have started to see it as a situation that can make you a better person. Failure drives me to never make that mistake again. I first realized this when I took my first AP class and AP exam and received a score of 2. This journey all started sophomore year when I took AP World History. I quickly learned that I needed to actually read and take notes to be able to succeed in the class. It took a few poor grades on essays and tests for me to understand this. Despite this new revelation, I still struggled in the class. When it came time to start reviewing and preparing for the exam, I put an immense amount of effort, but not as hard as I should’ve been. Exam day came and
In the article, “What Is College For? (Part 2)” written by Gary Gutting we see a description of his ideal vision to improve education and the intellectual culture of our citizens. Mr. Gutting emphasizes that preparing students for employment should be the job of the elementary, middle and high school rather than college. He argues that higher education is basically unnecessary for the practice of many professions.
My first failure discouraged me to the point where, I felt like I would never reach an advanced math level again. The lack of self-confidence that resulted from my sub-par math scores soon began to negatively affect some of my other classes. I quickly realized that the trend had to stop. I worked diligently to achieve what, at the time, seemed unattainable. My change in the outlook of my repeated failures helped me to finally succeed. Throughout the course of the last two years, I have grown more self-aware in my study habits. I push myself even harder when I think I have done the best I can.
I live in an impoverished town, with a 40% increase this year in opioid deaths, where the education system pumps under-educated teens onto the streets they came from, with no chance of a job. Many parents and adults do not care, know, or understand the value of a college education.
While the failures everyday teenagers go through pale in comparison to that of an adult, if I were to pick one instance of failure, and the lessons entailed, it would be my rejection from becoming my high school band’s drum major. During my sophomore year, I signed up to try out for drum major. There were five of us total, and only one of us could be the next drum major. The audition was during band camp, and we have trained all summer for it. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in becoming the next drum major. From this experience, I have learned that failure can be a valuable teacher, to commit to areas where I find the most passion and to manage my tasks at hand more effectively. My lessons started with failure.
A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or morally dependent on the goals that they set for their life. They will choose a college that offer programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision to pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who does not have a degree. College is more of life preparation course that will help make sure a successful career. If a person pursues a career in engineering, physics or mathematics their curriculum would include more liberal art preparation courses, in order for them to earn their degree, so someone pursuing a degree in these types of careers are

What is college? According to dictionary.com, college is defined as, “an institution of higher learning, especially one providing a general or liberal arts education rather than technical or professional training.” I would like to attend an institution to better my knowledge in the profession that I am interested in. In order to be the greatest and go beyond my competition in the field of electrical engineering, I have to be conscious of the general understanding in the subject.
These failures taught me valuable life lessons and even resulted in better outcomes. My softball lost the state championship game two years in a row to the same team. While this is devastating to athletes, especially after all the hard work that is put in, losing teaches us humility and how to lose gracefully. It also helped us work harder for the next season to try to overcome the obstacle that stopped us. My second example of failure is not getting into my top choice of college. However, this ended up working out because I definitely feel as if I am happier at Boston College than I would have been anywhere else. I learned from this failure that just because one
I tried to convince myself that I want to go to college because it will make me a better person; that somehow, as a result of being college educated I will be able to have a larger or better impact on the world. It might be true. Maybe I will have a chance, that I wouldn’t have without a college degree at a job that would allow me to make significant change. Maybe, during college, I’ll become a better person by gaining a more complete understanding of the world. I don’t necessarily expect either of these things. I decided educating myself and learning how to think may be selfish, but also productive. I know educating myself is a moral thing to do the same way I know hiking through a forest is a moral thing to do. By walking through the woods
Going to a college in another state away from the people I knew was very scary. However, it turned out for the better. Coming from a small town and then living in Silicon Valley was one of the greatest opportunities I have ever had. Being in a new place has helped me get out of my comfort zone. I met many new types and a variety of different people, including a few really good friends. The college has taught me the importance of networking. It is very important to meet other people and create a relationship in business and for yourself. It helps build connections that will be useful in the future.
Traditionally, failure is seen as a negative concept and is defined as lacking success. I, on the other hand, try to put a positive spin on everything in life. I see failure as an obstacle that is experienced by all, but it does not define an individual. Failure in essence will force an individual to be more receptive to their surroundings and actions and also will force an individual to mature. Looking back on my childhood years I can now pinpoint the areas where I failed and I can confidently say that I have grown and prospered due to those failures. The three major failures I have experienced were my attention deficit issues which affected my ability to succeed in school, my anti-social habit that I let consume my early years, and my
Throughout life, you will always experience failure by one way or other, however, you should never give up. One instance, I failed in a school event that not only put me in pressure and stress, but it also was an experience that helped me learn that despite of the failure you can still do everything possible to convert that failure into success. Getting an education in Saint Mary’s School, Panama, got me the opportunity to participate in an event that marked my life and taught me many lessons.
