College Education Is Not Worth Going To College

In Caroline Bird, “College is a waste of time and money,” Bird discusses why college is not necessary for everyone. She states that many college students are in college not because they want to but because they have to. Bird came to realize that college students don’t feel needed. They are led to believe that getting a college degree is important because it’s a way of getting higher chance of financial success which from Bird’s point of view is not always true. She gives examples of college students who have graduated and came to realize that college was a waste of time and money.

Not only do we get a lot out of getting a college degree in what we want to do, but so does our society. There are requirements for every job for a reason. Jobs need people that specialize in just that career field. They want us to be passionate about what we do and more importantly know exactly what we are doing. For example, hospitals have no room for mistakes because not only may it cost a life, it can also costs them money. We feel safer knowing people know how to do their jobs right. College education is necessary whenever there is a shortage in certain careers. It’s important to have higher education so there can be growth and competition in our society.

In today's world many people question or education system and question whether or not the cost is of college is worth it just to continue your education. Although you inquire a lot of debt in college. Getting a degree is almost necessary in today's job market because most jobs require one and jobs that do not require a college degree are getting harder to get, as the unemployment rises. Therefore a college degree is worth incurring significant debt. Earning a college not only provides you with job security and provides potential for greater lifetime earnings.

There are many benefits to obtaining a college degree. Having a college degree is worth the expenses and two or more years put into getting it. A college degree can help with getting a well paying, enjoyable job in the future. Having a well paying, enjoyable job is important in one’s success. Which means that having a degree is important. The rise of college tuition along with room and board have lead many to believe that college isn’t worth the money. This among with the other factors of how getting a job into society is more difficult and that a college degree no longer competitive due to the high abundance of them. On the other side, many others urge the importance of a degree. They bring up how more jobs today require degrees, the return investment, and many other things.

Attending college or pursuing a higher education is worth it because a degree ensures a stable, well paying job and provides a better quality of life. In Document A, “Earning and Unemployment Rates Based on Educational Attainment, 2015” compiled by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, a higher educational degree, such as a Doctorate or Professional degree, corresponded to a lower unemployment rate with a higher pay, while little to no educational degree corresponded to a higher unemployment rate with a lower pay. This means people who received a college degree had a better chance of finding and retaining a well-paying job because they are typically skilled in one profession that cannot easily be replaced, such as a doctor or engineer.

Today, college is an option in some homes because many work places will not hire you if you do not have some type of college education. When applying to college it can be very stressful on one, especially when one start to think about how much money it is going to cost someone each year that they are trying to earn your degree. Most of your college students go to school not because they want to spend money, but because they must earn their education to make it somewhere with a career. College is a very important stepping stool to your future, too your life. Others might say it’s not worth the money, that plenty of people were successful without college, I disagree. Only very small hand full of people make it without a degree.

College can still be worth it for many people when they are deciding on their future path. College doesn’t have to be very expensive, there are many scholarships that students can apply for to help reduce the cost. Also, having a college degree will allow the person to have the option for career changes in their lifetime. Some colleges offer work co-op programs,an internship, where the person can get a degree, learn their skill, and make money. This allows them to feel more comfortable in their field, and it helps to eliminate some of their student debt. These are just a few of the reasons why college can still be very beneficial to people, and why college can still be worth it for many people.

A college education isn’t meant to make people become rich, but to help them fulfill their interests within a career with the long term benefits of receiving a degree. “People who argue that college is worth it contend that college graduates have higher employment rates, bigger salaries, and more work benefits than high school graduates (ProCon.org).” So, it seems that college is worth more than just graduating from high school with a diploma and entering the work force.

In our society today, college is something that one is expected to attend. Today, our place or position in society is mostly looked at by our education level rather than who the person truly is. Now society is also looking at this generation for us to know that to succeed, one might set high goals for their self, which means going to college and pursing a degree. On the other hand, there are some people in this world that graduated from high school and have never been to college and are just happy with their life like it is. There are two ways to look at this topic. One view is that college is worth the cost in the long run and another view is that college is not worth the cost at all. College is worth the cost. Yes, it can be expensive depending on where the high school graduate would like to attend, but education is something that is worth the cost and something one will never lose.

In the debate about whether college is worth attending, many argue that college is worth it but others argue that college is not worth it. Those who argue that college is worth it contend to say that college graduates make more money, college allows students to explore career options, and not going to college will cost people more money in the future but on the other hand, those who argue that college is not worth it contend to say that college graduates are employed in jobs that do not require degrees, students who do not graduate waste their own money and the governments money, and student debt can cause another financial crisis for students who are already struggling with financial aid. While it is true that college does cause many problems already, college is worth attending and worth all the problems at the end of the road.

A college education is a necessity in today’s time but “does the cost of college out weight the benefits?”. Growing up my mother always told me “you can’t afford a family on a “Dairy Queen” salary. There are multiple pros and cons of a college education such as better a career, with less manual labor, pay, knowledge and career advancement among multiple other opportunities. There are also cons such as the price of college tuition the damage to your credit that comes with unpaid student loans and the amount of time it takes to gain a college degree. I myself think that the benefits of college outweigh the cost.

There is also a huge difference in most salaries where an individual who holds a degree has a salary almost double of a person who is merely a high school graduate. In my situation there is also a huge importance and value to me because it will in the long run benefit my daughter. By setting an example for her that you can do whatever you put your mind to and you have to work hard to make your dreams come to reality. This is a way to be able to advance my career and make a better living to support my daughter. In the long run having a college education does nothing but benefit you and your quality of life.

Recently, a lot of college students who are spending amount of money on school and after graduating they still can’t find a job, that make higher education background becomes a controversial question. Education background has become the focus of our current society, more and more people are beginning to be aware of the necessity of education and some people believed college degree is not important. As far as I am concerned, no matter in workplace, or in our social life, it is necessary for everyone to have college education background.
