College is notorious for being a time of change, where you will meet your best friends and have the best four years of your life. You’ll be on your own, without parents, and the only person you will have to answer to is yourself. You can honestly make your college experience whatever you want it to be, and that is what makes college so unique and special. But, that is also what makes college so dangerous. There is no guide to go through college, no sure fire way to have the best experience possible, it is truly all up to the individual. But the media has a huge impact on how we view our college experience, and what it should look life. Through movies, articles and pictures we see on social media, we already have a foggy image of what …show more content…
Men’s Constant Urge For Sex Men are perceived to have a huge sex drive, one that makes teenage men crave the idea of sex. Boys grow up hearing about how all men are ‘horn dogs’ who just want to have sex and then move onto the next relationship. It’s almost become a shock when a male in his teens tells someone he’s a virgin. Sex for guys, it’s natural after-all, because that is what the media directly tells us (Firminger 2006: 304). This breads this idea that this is all men care about, and all that a guy desires. (Firminger 2006) states that girls then see this in the media, and ask questions in order to understand what guys like more in girls, such as the size of a girls breast, hair color, eye color, height, and weight. This idea of what guys are perceived to like is clearly outlined in Total Frat Moves “50 Ways to be the Perfect College Girlfriend”. Bullet points 46-50 read “46. Morning blowjobs. 47. Afternoon blowjobs. 48. Evening blowjobs. 49. Did I mention blowjobs? 50. Be spontaneous. Refer to #46-49 for ideas” (TFM 2013). Girls will then see this media and consume it, and they will have this idea that this is what guys want and this is what they have to do in order to impress a guy and be the “perfect college girlfriend”. The article also states that “We (men) hate condoms, and everyone hates

Starting college as a Freshman is exciting; it is also unnerving. The comfort of everything I know is going to disappear and it will be time to grow up and face reality. However, reality isn’t doomed to be negative if I prepare for my future and
Seniors have a tendency of taking their last year of high school for granted. They do not realize that the relaxed classes and fun filled weekends with their best friends will all soon come to a devastating end. They have applied for college, bought miniature refrigerators, and sent in their housing applications, but none of them have really thought about college in the way that they should. When asked about college most high school seniors image the huge parties, attractive people, and freedom; however, college is much more than that and, in a way, much less. College and high school are completely different when it comes to a student’s actual lifestyle, but they have many of the same traits that most high school seniors do not see coming.
For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or overwhelming depending on how well one prepares for it. Some have the notion that college is fun and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look forward to experiencing a different learning environment while being exposed to different cultures and sharing different academic knowledge. Successful assimilation into college life is determined by the student’s capability to transform into the new role of a college student. Numerous students face challenges they have never experienced before which can
The book The Prince of Los Cocuyos can relate to my transition into college. The first time Richard Blanco came to America and felt out of place. College is all about experinces and getting to know yourself and learning who you really are. It is hard leaving high school and having to transition to college. Being used to teachers reminding you about assingments to now going online and having to remind yourself. As I begin to start my college experience I thought college would be easier no one telling you what you can and cant do, but its really not easier it might honestly be harder. Having to do so many assignments all at once. I feel like college is all about self motivation and being able to push yourself to work hard. Which I actually am
Colombo explains that “Beginning college can be disconcerting experience” (Colombo, p.1). That there will be more peer pressure from your peers and an increase expectations that you have never faced during your high
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I’m an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can develop life skills outside academics, to be fully
Unlike high school, people don’t normally get one try to get it right the first time! College, for most is a critical development into adulthood. College teaches beyond the classroom and sheds light on certain attainable humanly characteristics. Such as: perseverance, hard work, integrity, love, admiration, and respect which allows one to find oneself using knowledge.
Going to college allows for many opportunities to open up in life. Society is changing at a very rapid rate. College is a very difficult time for nearly everyone, as Charles Murray who published an article on should the Obama Generation Drop out also states that “A large majority of young people do not have the intellectual ability to do genuine college-level work” (95). Attending college is not for everyone, but It can teach you to learn how to become independent, develop discipline, evolve new life skills, and learn how to balance a social life versus student life. The experiences you obtain and gain from attending college can lead you to learn how to live your life within the college environment in a way that creates harmony with who you are. It is a time of trial and error until you find what works for you. Eventually harmony is found by choosing a major that coincides in a positive way with the person you are. Once this is found, you will be able to establish a system of studying and learning that works for how your mind works. It is natural that your life will be in disharmony when the circumstances in your life change dramatically, such as when you go to college, but your life should eventually return to being less stressful. During your college journey, you will make many friends. Many friendships that you make in college
College is a new and exciting experience for incoming freshmen; it is a place that many have never even stayed the night. The only time many have been at campus is when visiting the grounds. When I come to college I am not there to simply relax or goof off. College is a tool that I can use to feather my education, to make connections and attain a job in my
Being young and watching movies about college and waiting for the day that we get to leave our parents’ house and head to the exciting world of college the partying, drinking and handsome boys are all there. But little do we know that college can be cold and cruel, with rape and violence.
At some point, someone has said that high school will be the best four years of their lives and college gets even better. So with that idea in people’s heads, they come up with their ideal image of the college. They start planning the perfect scenario of what college they will go to and what their roommate will be like. They often try to compare an unrealistic image and turn it into a realistic image, but they are unlike in many ways. Once students step onto the college campus, they will soon face what it is actually like to be in college. When people understand that college is not the perfect movie scene, then they will take advantage of expanding and furthering their education seriously. Going to college is a whole different experience and there is a lot more to it such as the rigorous classes and overwhelming school work, being more independent, and forming new bonds with others.
As I graduated high school, I thought college would just be yet another four years of high school, and I was wrong. College opens many new doors in a young man or woman’s life. There are new responsibilities and pressures that you will have to deal with, and with more freedom these responsibilities and pressures can be difficult to handle. College has changed a great deal over the years and these changes, such as more freedoms, make college a much more challenging experience. You need to start preparing for college now by making yourself more responsible and having more self-control. Although you think college is merely partying with easy classes on the side, I have experienced pressures and work loads that make the experience challenging
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be “the best experience of your life.” The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn’t fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of
