Comment on the Video Class “He’s Been to Turkey” Introduction The video called “He’s been to Turkey” intend to introduce some ways of grammar teaching. From the video, we can infer that all the students are belong to beginners level. “The ‘False beginners ’ know something about English, but that is not enough to say anything ” (Harmer, 2015, p.94). Students in the video have a little elementary knowledge about English, such as the meaning of different countries, the easiest sentence structure or order. So as a result, the students in the video belong to the beginners level. That is why the teacher design a easy lesson plan but full of repetition and practice. Literature Review In the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom, there …show more content…
Harmer (2015) said that “By shifting it around in a phrase or a sentence, we can also change emphasis or meaning”. The same word with different stress might be another word, even might had different meaning. If students cannot pronounced the words correctly, there would be misunderstanding of the word. That is why stress is an important point. “The aim of the tense was to establish the use of the Present Perfect with ever to talk about experiences” (Gerngross,2006,p117). Tense determined the time and date of the accidents, in this video we do not know the exact time. As a result, we could just tell from the present perfect tense. Discussion The whole process of this method was controlled by the teacher, he designed the whole procedure and the learning resources. Students have to follow the teacher’s arrangement and study upon the teacher’s supervision. The presentation part is led by the teacher. He shows the students about how the knowledge of the language works. The next one is the practice part, students have a brief understanding of the language point, so the teacher will like the students to practice about it. Maybe in various way such as teacher ask and students answer or pair work or group work and so on. The last part is the production. After acquiring the main information, students began to create new sentences. So according to the video, the high degree teacher controlled
(1987) described this form of instruction as a systematic method of teaching with emphasis on proceeding in small steps, checking for student understanding, and achieving active and successful participation by all students. I have also used the strategy as reference for determining the strengths and weaknesses of my lesson. After conducting in class lesson and reviewing my video lesson multiple times, I was able to identify my strengths
I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the software that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid has always been a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls premier pro is just edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it the better choice for editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the software are updated, for the software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by educational establishments for training people to use software like this in the future as in the last few years final cut has dropped down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less consumer friendly for use then premier and avid, This is reason for it being used in education.
Students will receive the lesson in small groups. The highest ability group will receive the lesson first and be released to work on the independent practice alone while the teacher works with lower ability groups on completing the practice
The lesson was carried out February 23, 2017 at La Sierra University in room 105 at the education department. The room was spacious allowing enough space for each student and teacher. The furniture
I noticed that many students pretended to not understand and they just wanted to prolong until the class was over. I didn’t think it was necessary to repeat the video maybe more than three times. The teacher gave out the worksheet to the students prior to the video and the worksheet was going to be scored, so the teacher wanted to make sure that the students did ok. Most of the activities the teacher did for the class were limited to one activity and that was to practice with the groups, reviewing and practicing what the teacher just
First the teacher identified what the students already knew by identifying the prior knowledge which was copying notes on the board. The teacher used their skill of copying notes on a piece of paper from the board through introducing new concepts such as filling the blank. In order for them to fill in the blank they must focus their attention and follow along with the lecture. Next, the teacher build their knowledge through scaffolding; the scaffolding she provided helped students move from what they already knew to what they should know by the end of class. The answers for the fill in the blanks were in her lecture and she provided bright colors in her lecture to grasp their attention. The colors helped the students identify the fill in the blank answers for their cornell notes. By the end of class, students were able to write a summary based on what they learned during the lecture using cornell notes. She provided the answers through her teaching but it was their responsibility to place where the answers belonged. Using the scaffolding process she integrated guided practice in the lesson plans. Students were able to connect their new learning to their prior knowledge. Through applying the
Learning is unique to each individual. Some students learn well in a structured group setting. There are visual, auditory, and hands on learners. Others find it easier to learn with one on one instruction some are capable of teaching themselves like Fredrick Douglas. An ideal educational experience would incorporate the various procedures highlighted in the video “Unschooling: the new class of learning”. These learning methods include those of Dale J. Stephens, a student who started a self-directed school and Arno Stern an educated researcher who “created a space for children to play and paint without restraint, without goal, and without competition”.
knowledge. The best part is, it is fun and develops interaction. This video will improve mainly decoding words and phonic awareness.
They always sing their songs repeatedly, so the member of their tribe will not forget about their songs.
This step involves figuring out how to present the lesson. If teachers present lessons the same way every time, the students will always know what to expect. For example, before reading a novel, the teacher introduces new vocabulary words. Next, she gives general background information on the novel and author. Last, she begins to read the story. By always presenting the lesson this way, the students know what to expect next.
After watching the video on public education and comparing it to the way education was being presented back then and how it’s being presented now I can pretty much say nothing has really changed in the way education has become available and encouraged to anyone regardless of their social class. From personal experience I have to admit that social class does play a major role on education. Although education is an institution that has become available to anyone regardless of the background I have to acknowledge that not everyone (lower and middle class) has the same opportunity, methods, tools, and means (economically), etc. to be able to have the a similar future then the people that are considered to be a higher class. From my point of view
Teachers modify their lesson plans to help their students reach mastery. Overall, it appears that teachers are successful when they understand their students and are able to incorporate elements of specialized needs into the lesson and to think about potential student misunderstandings before they occur. All information for this analysis is taken from case number 0001 under the ENL category. The video takes place in a 7th grade English as a Second Language (ESL) class. It is evident that the teacher understands the needs of each of her students and incorporated this knowledge into the lesson to ensure differentiation. Specifically, the teacher adjusts instruction to help meet the needs of the students by asking each individual to read from a worksheet so she is able to facilitate learning within a social setting. The teacher engaged the usually quiet children by asking probing questions which in turn enriched their problem solving skills. In addition, she helped each student correct their pronunciation in such a way that they would not feel embarrassed or attacked because she was aware of their reservations about reading out loud. Unbeknownst to the class, the teacher took the children’s cultural needs into consideration as well. In the overview of the video the teacher noted
In the video (Teaching Channel, 2014), one of Ms. Porfirio’s peers mentioned that she was a selfless individual. After watching the video, her caring and compassion for her students was unmistakable. I thought her practice for allowing her students a choice in the way they greet her at the beginning of the day as well as say goodbye at the end of the day was admirable. This action not only creates a safe environment, but also allows for each student to feel empowered by their ability to make their own decision on how they will enter and exit the classroom. I believe through this, the children feel that their opinion is valued, thus creating a more open environment.
The teacher, Jenna Ogier, in the Teaching Channel video lessons is applying the student centered constructivism theory. Ogier uses many of the components of constructivism, which includes a literature focused unit (Tompkins, 2014, p. 7). Furthermore, Ogier is relying on students to make a connection to background knowledge and to make an inference to construct their own knowledge. Tompkins (2014) asserts that in the constructivism theory “Learning occurs when students integrate new information with their existing knowledge” (p. 8). Additionally, Tracey (2012) expresses that in the constructivism theory “learning results from a process known as ‘inferencing’” (p. 58). In the video lessons the students make inferences by using what they know
The video is relevant to safety in a science lab and classroom. In a lab environment, the space should always be cleaned. There should never be food, drinks or gum in a lab because the food or drink might get contaminated, or it might have a reaction with chemicals and it can be a distraction to other students. Everyone should always wear safety glasses or goggles in a lab environment to protect their eyes and face. For example, the boy in the video forgot his safety goggles and gloves so he could have damaged and burned his eyes, face, and hands. Even if students finish their work, everyone should have the safety goggles in incase there are still harmful chemicals in the lab environment, that can lead to injuring the eye and face. If a chemical
