Common core when introduce is an important part of our educational system as it allows all students to be taught with the same instructional material regardless of the school they attend. Working as a home liaison and truancy officer, I witness first hand a student inability of achieving as they was moved from school to school which allowed them to be to advance for their new placement and/or below the standards. With common core, it allows students to be on the same level of academics regardless of their transition. Sadly, the common core is not geared to all students, as many students learn and think differently, curriculum is not allowing the student to stop and think about what they are learning as it sole focus is on math and reading.
Common core helps teachers and students follow a set of rulers to follow and learn. Also common core helps kids know how the SAT’s will be like. The state tests are hard and for the next test, it makes you want to do better on it next year because most people like challenges. Also, common core helps kids get ready for college. In school understanding common core is hard. In collage understanding the concepts will also be hard so it won’t be much of a challenge then. Common core helps kids understand the concept of what they’re learning. When
There has been some speculation to as if the Common Core is even working for the students. Is it preparing them for College? For the Common Core Standard to be successful in the schools all rely on how it is implemented. Do the teachers implement the Standards in a good way or a bad way? The Common Core Standards are already hard to understand let alone teach. During research, on how the Common Core Standards are being implemented they found that there were teachers that undoubtedly know they are supposed to be implementing the Standards (Polikoff, 2017). This brings me back to say that there are many people that do not fully understand the Common Core. Some teachers are still confused on the fact that they have to implement it into their classrooms and everyday planning. Common Core is set up to help you, it tells you where your students should be and what they should be learning at the grade level. With not knowing anything about the Common Core, teachers are having a difficult time when it comes to implementing it into the
Because Common Core was built from a diverse group of teachers, parents, and administrators they understand every aspect of what actually happens in a school and a classroom, these groups of experts designed Common Core with a clear goal in mind. No child will have to suffer because he or she comes from a poor family. No child will have to suffer because he or she moves schools a lot. No child will have to graduate high school and worry about not being prepared.
Though the American Common Core has slightly improved national percents in Math and English, it has many adverse effects on our state rights, economy, teachers, and children. The fundamental goal of the Common Core is to get every school, teacher, and classroom in America to follow the same national standards. This system means teachers and parents have little power over what their children learn in the classroom; it is a federal intervention in state-led affairs. Another negative point about the common core is the massive price to run and implement. For example in Washington, “{The}Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction estimates that Common Core will cost the state $300 million.” And in California, “{The} California
In the United States education has always been a contested issue. In 2009, state leaders in forty-eight states launched the Common Core standard and currently forty-three states are working to implement the system. The Common Core’s main purpose was to prepare American students for success and to create an even playing field for all students. But is the Common Core really helping students reach their potential?
That being said, with a family of educators surrounding me every time I go home I hear about them all to frequently in passing, and for the most part many say they are a great way in which to make our system more similar throughout the nation but my aunt thinks differently. She has just gone back to school to get her education degree in California and this summer we had an interesting conversation where she start out by saying “Common Core is nothing but a jail cell that confines teachers in what they can do with students.” I remember thinking, isn’t that more the result of standardized testing than Common Core, and after watching the video for this class I would disagree with my aunt whole heartedly. Common Core is meant to be a guide and to help us as teachers set realistic goals for our units and lessons not forcing us into a pigeonhole. In the video Sara says that it is a common mistake to use the Standards in the way my aunt was talking about but that that is not what they are to used for that in fact they are there to help guide your lessons with goals meant to help facilitate a great depth of knowledge, and to lesson repetition in order to see the bigger
The core curriculum at Army War College and elective experiences are interconnected and supportive in many ways. The JLASS elective is much in support to the Theater Strategy and Campaigning Course (TSC) and European Regional Studies. TSC lessons the Join Operation Planning Process, Operational Art and Multinational Operations were key subject matter to frame and analyze the strategic environment, and to understand the problem. Furthermore, the DIME concept is another very important tool, which allows us to think and bring the different options to the problem. Regional Study was key to understand the relation and strategic dynamics that are going on in Theater of Operations under EUCOM AOR. However, the World Summery challenges and change some of the current security dynamics in the AOR. Create more creativity to think in different way, wicked problem, and moving from the liberal to more realism IR theories. The Regional Study, particularly the EU and NATO lessons were very helpful to understand the strategic decisions and organizational dynamics between EUCOM and NATO. Finally, the connectivity of the core curriculum and JLASS is great mechanism to comprehend and
School is a place for social skills and learning and all students do not learn at the same rate as others. Observing others and learning right from wrong from watching others behaviors and the consequences that can occur from them. I think that common core has really changed the whole learning process and made steps to solve problems harder than they need to be. Many argue that it is prep for the SAT’s and the tests that are yet to come in their future years of school. Tracking I don’t think is utilized as it should be many students are still being grouped with students that are not of the same educational level as they are. My child is currently going into 5th grade and has been grouped with children that she basically helps on a daily basis
While Common Core intends are to put all students on the same academic level, it is causing many students to fall behind. The new curriculum drastically increased the difficulty of learning material for all students, regardless of learning ability. Natasha Ushomirsky, author
The Executive Branch of the United States Government and the President has the powers that can influence many things one of them is our Education and the Common Core law that had taken in to effect back in June 2010. Even before the Common Core States standards were, official dozens of states had adopted the standards.
Common Core promotes that idealistic mindset in which the bar is lowered so that every student can succeed. According to the video explanation on their website, Common Core shows that teachers will teach a child the basics so that they can succeed like “how counting to 100 will lead to understanding the value of money to having a budget.” The goal of common core is to produce students who will be able to
Say a child’s family has to move to a different state in the middle of the school year. What happens to the student if they arrive at a new school that is working on completely different topics than where they left off at their old school? The child will have to relearn or skip over material, or learn new material at a rushed rate in order to catch up. Certainly that cannot be good for the student’s well being. Common Core helps to ensure that won’t happen. Schools are expected be consistent among
Common Core gives students a deep dive into focusing on their education. “ The Common Core Standards assessments will allow teachers to monitor students progress throughout the year. The assessments will have optional pre-test and progress monitoring tools that teachers can use to find out what a student knows, where they are going, and to figure out a plan to get them where they need to be”( Pros and Cons of the Common Core Standards p1). “ When students can explore a concept and really immerse themselves in the content, they emerge with a full understanding that lasts well beyond testing season” (Six Ways Common Core is Good For Students p1) says Kisha Davis Caldwell, a fourth grade teacher at a Maryland elementary school. The standards for common core include, “Research, evidence based, clear, understandable, consistent, college and career expectations, and an application of knowledge through higher order thinking skills” ( Common Core State Initiative p1). These are some ways Common Core is proven to help students
There are only a few things that I currently know about the common core standards. The one thing I know is that the common core is standards for teachers across the nation to follow to ensure that every child is getting a proper education. This also helps keep all students be taught the same things as the students in the other parts of the country. This is very helpful for the students who move because they will be learning nearly the same thing as that student was learning back where he or she was before they moved.
Of Mark Twain’s many inspiring quotes, “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education” this one encompasses a brilliant and thought provoking idea. I truly believe that Mark Twain was on to something when he said this. Without a doubt, discussion and argument on the topic of Common Core in today’s school system have been on the radar for quite some time and with all of the media based answers it can be hard to determine what is true and what isn’t. When it comes to education parents, teachers, tutors, etc. only want what’s easiest and best for children, but what constitutes as easy and the best? While having a common background in education throughout all schools can be beneficial, Common Core is hindering the outcome of students
