I agree almost completely with these changes. Many students have to spend a large amount of time working to save up for college and help their families. They don’t have nearly as much time to go out and do the extracurricular activities they would love to do. Also including public service that contributes to the common good is a wonderful idea. Students throughout the United States, including myself, would love to participate in events like science fairs, AP chemistry classes, and advanced after school study groups doing extra learning about science and math. However, I am from a very small town and many of these opportunities are not offered at my high school. Including community service that contributes to the common good wouldn’t help a
Many schools require students to participate in community service, but I think this is a good idea. Many schools do not require students to volunteer in community service. I agree that students should have to volunteer to graduate. I think that students should be forced to volunteer for community service sometime in their high school career as it makes people work and shows them what work really is. It also gets people off there lazy tail.
The conversations between the Mayor and Mother Sister where taking at an oblique angle. I think the reason behind this is to highlight the unstable an unbalanced relationship between them.
High school administrations care about the well being of their students. They aim to guide the students in a way that will prepare them for the future ahead of each student. Thus administrations of high school have certain requirements that students must finish before graduating. There is one requirement that is commonly debated by high school administration and students, this topic being community service. Community service should not be required in order to graduate from high school since forcing students to volunteer leads to false information on their records, forcing students to do so does not mean that they will continue doing community service after they graduate, and it does not mean the student will mature.
Many high schools around the country have made community service hours mandatory in order for the seniors to graduate. Not everyone agrees that this should be a requirement because seniors already have enough on their plate. When seniors are about to graduate, it does not matter how many tasks they have to complete as a requirement if they do not feel like doing it and they have no motivation they will not complete
The movie, " Do the Right Thing", by Spike Lee is a hard-hitting drama that deals with violence and racism in today's society. This film is set in a primarily black neighborhood in close to the present time. Right in the center of this neighborhood stands a pizza parlor that is owned and operated by one of the most important characters in the movie, Sal. In the beginning of the movie, Sal is shown arriving to work with his two sons Pino and Vito. Right from the start, Sal is portrayed as a hard-working, kind, and devoted individual. Just the fact that he owns his own business in these rough and tough times shows that he is a smart, efficient, and dedicated man. Later in the movie, we learn that Sal did, in fact, build his pizzeria by himself from the ground up, brick by brick, and board by board. The fact that Sal gets to share his creation and hard work with his sons make it all the more special to him. After Sal has finished his pre-opening preparations Sal's Pizzeria is open for the day.
There are many films in this world that tackle the topic of race. It is an unfortunate truth that leads to many options when choosing a film to show to the students of Coe College. With a large majority of the students at Coe being white, choosing a film that addresses the themes of racism in the 20th century is something that can be a sensitive subject. It is the reason that a film that addresses tension among different race on a block in Bed-Sty is the most appropriate for the audience at Coe College. The film Do The Right Thing, directed by Spike Lee, challenges the characters in the film, along with the audience viewing the film to form opinions on sensitive subjects and to do the right thing in a difficult situation.Spike Lee uses the film, Do The Right Thing, to address racial tension in the 20th century through his use of color, camera framing and narrative.
I believe I am the fair-minded critical thinker in both my personal and professional life. I believe a person needs to think logically and fairly to be successful. Fair-minded thinking involves being open-minded and presenting well thought out plans. Everyone might not agree with you but if you have done your research and provided sound explanations to support your decision others are more apt to support your rationale.
The movie “Do the Right Thing” takes place in the neighborhood of Bed-Stuy. Having watched this movie several times in the last twenty-five years one can see not much has changed in the interactions in real life versus the movie. People in the Black community still has a certain look, when other races uses the “N” word. The outcry of police brutality is still done within the community, but it also protested on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. Where there was to be a boycott of Sal’s in the movie, there are other boycott of restaurants and other venues across the country. The movie also covers the typical relationship a woman has with her man, when one feels, that her man is not being up to par. The movie shows what happens in the community still covers The “What’s Happening” today.
In spite of the fact that Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever are both associated with social and political issues, they tend to navigate through various racial viewpoints using different cinematic elements. Spike Lee uses a variety of techniques in his film to bring awareness to events occurring in today's society. For example Do the Right Thing, is a film that tackles down the social issue of prejudice as well as the controversial issues between Italian-Americans and African Americans in New York City. The whole movie unravels around the “Wall of Fame” located inside Sal’s Pizzeria, which only features Italian actors. One day a local customer name Bugging Out, demands to have black actors, since after all the pizzeria is located within a black neighborhood. Soon enough the “Wall of Fame” becomes a symbolic representation of racism and hate which leads to a riot involving an explicit scene of police brutality. On the other hand Jungle Fever, tends to emphasise on the subject of interracial couples, as well as the controversy between Italian-Americans and African Americans and of course the usage of drugs. The movie is based on Flipper, an African American architect who has an affair with his secretary Angie, who is an Italian-American. The climax of the movie occurs when Flipper’s wife Drew, finds out about the affair and from then on society begins to reject Flipper and Angie because of social norms. Forcing them into a corner where they later learn that they were driven
The movie Do the Right Thing, composed, coordinated and created by Spike Lee, concentrates on a solitary day of the lives of racially differing individuals who live and work in a lower-class neighborhood in Brooklyn New York. Notwithstanding, this common day happens on one of the most sizzling days of summer. The movie fixates on how social class, race and the ethical choices that the characters make directly affect the way individuals communicate with each other. Furthermore, in this essay I will analyses Spike Lee’s use of mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, and sound in the film.
The movie Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee is not a film that has the power to transform one’s political sensibilities. The film displays the demonstration of African discrimination and racial altercations. Done by the way of the anger and serious reactions display by the way Lee demonstrates the true ethnicity of his character and the way he used insulting style of speech and strong scenes to show how harsh racism can lead to violence. 1) In the film there is love and hate between the neighbors that points out who are friends and rivals 2) We also see how in the film points out the differences that separate society 3) Finally in the in the film we see social conflict racial discrimination between Black, White, Italian and Asian race,
There are various elements that contribute to the significance of a film. Cinematography, is one important element in which the camera is used to capture visual images through a number of other controllable elements such as; camera lens, framing, scale, movement etc. Editing is another fundamental component of film studies in which different shots are put together in a coherent sequence in order to make meaning of a film.
In addition to taking away many hours of people's free time after school hours, the required 75 hours of community service is also pushing the students to do too much at one time. It isn't fair to the students who have to go home with backpacks full of homework each and every day, do their three or four hours of service, and still find a way to get the amount of sleep they need to repeat
As an 18-year-old tennager, I was forced by my parents to participate a summer volunteer program in my freshman year. Even though I felt that I was a victim of “tyranny” in the beginning, I realized that I actually enjoyed the process of helping people in the middle of the program. Now, I participate that program every year as an active member, and I have gained the personal enrichment that I am unable to learn from other sources such as math club or SAT preparatory class. There is no doubt that community service can bring essential benefits in helping students develop their moral value and future interest, and it should be mandatory because some students attempt to utilize community service as a tool for their own profit without the school supervision.
Galston (2013) claims that idea of the common good “has real content in theory and real utility in practice”, throughout his essay on the common good, he provides sufficient evidence to back his main claim and he uses it to refute the arguments of others. He defines three key aspects of the common good to support his claim of the common good having “real content in theory”, these include: ‘Inherently social goods’, ‘Social linkages’ and ‘The good of the commons’. Galston (2013) then proceeds to give evidence on the concept of bargaining and the U.S. Constitution; he uses these examples to support his claim that the common good has “real utility in practice”. I believe Galston understands the academic conversation around the common good quite
