From your Surveys of School Context, what areas of need did the team select? After conducting a team discussion with four colleagues who completed the survey (assistant principal, paraprofessional, a secretary, a teacher, and myself), the group united in the decision of three areas that needed the most improvement on our campus. These items chosen were: conflicts and tensions that naturally arise are resolved, a high degree of trust and professionalism regard exists in our school, and communication between the school and families is open and two-way.
Explain why you believe these areas were selected based on a conversation with your co-workers. The three areas that were chose were from two categories, school

The third issue is communication between the school and families is open and two way. The teacher expressed great concern in this area because of the lack of information that the administrators share with the teachers to relay to students and their families. Also, when information is shared with students and parents it is in too late of a notice and all the details about events are not clear to answer questions that students, parents, and staff may have.
A Strategic Plan for addressing the need(s) identified and related to the school mission.

What is our mission? My colleagues (assistant principal, paraprofessional, a secretary, a teacher) and I agreed that our mission for our school addressed our desired outcomes for our students as educators, but maybe lacked some insight about those we work and interact with as a community. Our assistant principal added that we should edit our mission and add a part about working to collaborate together in our workplace, and the teacher added that it contributes to the fostering of student growth. In our quest for excellence, our school strives to meet the unique educational needs of our diverse
In order to establish and maintain interest there needs to be regular and reliable communication and sharing of information between the school and pupils families. Every school district has board meetings throughout the school year. Unfortunately, many parents, community members, & school personnel do not attend such important meetings because they don’t realize or understand the importance of such board meetings or how informative they can be. "I can't name one person who lives in a home with the mother and the father. I wish I could.” Another problem facing the school is the lack of support from parents. I believe that the blame extends beyond teachers and administrators. For example in the auditorium on Back to School Night.

In the situation of a single mom, it would be difficult if not impossible for this parent to financially provide for herself and her child without any financial help. The major components of their survival would be to meet the essential needs of providing shelter, food, clothing, and health insurance. If the parent is working a day job, there would be the necessity for a daycare, an afterschool program, or the child would have to stay with a family member. This parent would require a strong network of stability to overcome the obstacles she might face. In Northeast Florida, Community Connections has made it possible for homeless low-income women, children, and families to meet the ever-changing and multifaceted needs that Community Connections
Furthermore, I feel confident in asserting that Park Middle School represents many, if not all, of the aspects expected from a collaborative culture. Overall, when reviewing the School Culture Typology Activity and protocol described by Steve Gruenert and Todd Whitaker, statements with the survey that reflects a “collaborative culture” certainly resonated with me. There were two components of the survey that caught my attention. First, there is certainly an openness amongst staff as well as administration. We are committed to openly discussing our practices and working together to make decisions that improves our practice. Secondly, our school promotes and provides opportunities for professional development, not only outside of school but every

In a diverse school setting with over 1,650 young adolescents, it is critically important that each staff member “owns” our mission and is personally committed to the
In light of accountability requirements, fear of not meeting AYP (Annual Yearly Progress), and required school improvement plans, often the idea of “school improvement” is considered a negative attribute. Obviously schools do not want to be singled out or identified as in need of improvement. Teachers often take the same view towards the idea of improvement. We as teachers take very personal that concept of improvement; we often parallel the need for improvement to failure. However my belief is that effective schools are always in a school improvement process and effective teachers too also are constantly adapting their practice in a culture of continuous improvement and growth. Therefore it is important as an effective leader to build a community of trust and collaboration. I quote “We are all in this together. Once we know that we are, we’re all stars and we see that we’re all in this together.” (Disney High School Musical, 2006) These lyrics from a popular Disney movie put to light exactly the school culture where the goal is not personal but as a community to use data driven and research based approaches in reflection and growth that assist all stakeholders.
This school has the potential makings of wonderful learning institution. Hypothetically, if I were to create an effective learning community, it must entail a few critical characteristics. First, I would insist that the faculty, staff and myself share in the vision of the school. I want everyone to feel comfortable in identifying and resolving problems that manifest during the education process. Our vision will be in support of a rigorous student learning platform, and the teachers will be expected to guide their work and decision-making in support of this program. In return, I
Specially designed Instruction because I loved the way this was broken down to make it more easily understood for teachers I liked unpacking the instruction.
