Introduction
The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young people through community life.
I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and recordings of my observations. In doing so I intend to create a picture and overall feeling of the community as well as the people who live here. This data will be accompanied by my own comments in

For a community that witnesses a lot of conflict during each year Ardoyne is full of people who love to chat and help out whatever why they can. The older generation in particular take pride in their ‘what’s mine is yours’ attitude. While taking this picture an old lady quietly asked me if I was a tourist. I replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school through the protesters each morning while it lasted. In that time she had to endure spitting and urine filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she ‘wouldn’t wish it on anyone’ as she slowly walked off. I couldn’t help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady, who was completely open to sharing her experience with me.
Improving a specific aspect of community life
The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the ‘drinking culture’ within Ardoyne. In the small area that is Ardoyne there are eight pubs, five of which being night clubs. I feel that this environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne.

My best friend Leah Nepomuceno is one of the strongest people I know, especially when it comes to family. Family to her is everything and she has done all she can to try and keep hers together as a whole. We were in sixth grade swinging on the swings outside at recess, whispering and giggling about our usual gossip when she received news from one of our teachers that we knew was serious by the look on her face and fear in her voice. She came up to us and told her she needed to go the office and that she was being dismissed, she gave me permission to walk with her inside. On the short but long felt walk inside Leah's heart was pounding, her hands were sweating, and her eyes were slowly filling with tears. Her mom was

What do you think about your neighbours? How do you feel about your schools? What do you think about your community? Community has always been a big part of our lives and it has been here since the day we were born. We might even live on the same street, but we grow up in different households and this results in many different views on communities. The many definitions of our community may include our home, our heritage, and even our religion.
What town act you live in? How does it look smells like, and sounds like? Do you feel comfortable in that particular city? Today, I'm going to tell you a lot of things about this village.
Melbourne’s drinking problem is getting out of hand, and the consequences come at a ‘hidden cost’. Toby halls opinion piece for the herald sun, attacks the ever-growing issue about how Melbourne’s alcohol issue is getting out of hand. The article makes a bold statement about how throughout the years the grasp on the dilemma has diminished and it's gotten to a new high. The concerning properties on the headline ‘ it's time to take Melbourne’s alcohol problem seriously’, hints at a sense of concern the reader should feel about this topic.
“Pick up the pace guys, its meatloaf night!” Exclaimed Pleasant Grove High School track coach Bill Saunders. You could see the pain and agony that the athletes were experiencing as they made their final laps around the track in attempt to finish off that day’s workout. The mid afternoon sun was beating down on the young adults and you could see tears of sweat running from their faces. Bill Saunders has been the track coach at Pleasant Grove for four consecutive seasons now and says, “There is no greater feeling of success than seeing the smiling faces of those athletes who achieve their season goals!”
One cold sunny weekend in February of 2014 in Madison, MS the Saint Stanislaus boys just arrived to the hotel where they would stay for the night before the big game. All was good the night before we ate and later went to sleep. We all woke up around eight in the morning and had breakfast. We left for the fields around twelve because the game was at two in the evening.
One of New York City’s most historic yet hippest neighborhoods, Chelsea has also come into vogue as a top business destination in recent years. Sandwiched between the booming Hudson Yards district, the Flatiron District and trendy downtown neighborhoods, Chelsea has much to offer businesses looking to relocate there. Although it has several drawbacks – namely a limited transportation network – its major selling points such as its trendy, creative appeal and diverse office inventory make it a solid deal overall for many companies.
Against the backdrop of a long-standing Australian ‘binge and brawl’ pattern of alcohol-based weekend leisure, there have been a plethora of concomitant recurrent anxieties in the media surrounding youth, in particular, the Redlands district in Brisbane. As a result of these occurrences, around 3,000 deaths and 65,000 hospitalisations occur every year, costing the government an estimated $15.3 billion. (Donnelly N, 2013). Epidemiological studies and preliminary analysis quantify the seriousness of alcohol-related problems arising from binge drinking.
In Australia, we have a culture built purely around bar hopping and binge drinking. This culture has led to many financial problems, as I outlined before, and as my first speaker stated, it has also led to crime and health issues. In a recent study conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, it was revealed that “about 18% of Australians aged 20-29 are binge drinking at least once a week” and “28.3% of females aged under 19 binge drink”. These statistics serve to show how the next generation is being strongly affected by Australia’s every growing culture of substance abuse. Yet, why should Australia’s great and diverse culture be reduced to that of one consumed by alcohol? Why shouldn’t Australia’s culture be built around unity and promoting acceptance? Enforcing our model would only change our community for the better and promote us to the wider world. And although our model only applies to Melbourne, the affirmative team strongly believes that implementing the change in Melbourne, as it is has already been applied to both Sydney and Queensland, would surely help to pave the way for the rest of Australia. Many Australians, when asked why they binge drink, reply that it helps them to relax and have fun. Yet there are so many others ways of calming down and de stressing. These would include hanging out with friends or family, or doing something such as reading a book, rather than harming yourself and your community by consuming excess alcohol. Australia’s culture shouldn't be based around a drug, and we shouldn’t have to rely upon alcohol to have some fun. It is clear to see that alcohol merely drags Australia’s reputation through the mud and diminishes the respect we garner from other
This is a community profile that aims to identify a specific health improvement issue within a local geographically determined community. ‘A community profile is an attempt to describe a particular community or neighbourhood. It uses a variety of different techniques to build up a picture of the community from a number of perspectives’ (Barnardos.org.uk, 2004) including several components of a community such as its demographic characteristics, patterns and trends i.e. its epidemiology in order to make comparisons between different localities to determine areas needful of specific health improvements with the goal of improving local people’s health and reducing health inequalities. A core definition of community as distinguished by
What is a speech community? This may be a question asked by many. A Speech community is a group of people who share the same norms and expectations regarding the use of language. Everyone belongs to some type of speech community based on their demographic background, race, or age.
My photography project, “Rural America Living: The Untouched Communities” will consist of a detailed dissection of twelve selected rural communities in rural Missouri. This project will then be presented in a hardcover photography book and exhibition. For each of the communities I’ve selected the process will remain the same. I will spend a week in the life, “shadowing” selected families in each town and spending an additional two weeks living in the town as if I was a native experiencing and involving myself. All while documenting through my photography, the characteristics that make each unique. I have made arrangements with selected families to live with them for a solid week to capture authentic traits. Placing myself in the center of these lifestyles is the only way I feel I can truly deliver the best project possible, that will reflect directly onto rural
The first time I came to live in Oakland, I realized something that was also a concurring situation back in Mexico. The people, my community, everywhere I looked we had ubiquitous violence, poverty, and poor health. My family and I have also been victims of these concurring issues, I been assaulted multiple times while walking to school and also was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 which impacted my entire life and had to make drastic changes. Furthermore, I noticed there's a considerable difference within East Oakland and North Oakland. In North Oakland, streets are aesthetically free of waste and do not reflect a trace of poverty and people like to socialize with each other. However, if you back to where I live, there's shootings, trash everywhere, food deserts, homeless people. It's basically you against your community, a never
Every job in a community is designed to serve the community as a whole. With people like bank tellers who make deposits and withdraw money for customers, doctors and surgeons who work to cure patients, and teachers who make a living by aiding their students in education, it is easy to see how these citizens are of service to their community. But how do these men and women who faithfully assist and provide for their community retain their individuality? How are these people able to satisfy their interest while also satisfying the interests of the community? Take Ruston High School for example. At Ruston High School (RHS), students are encouraged to be actively involved members of the RHS student body. In the meantime, teachers inspire
