Christianity and Judaism are two of the three main religions in the world. These religions are referred to as Abrahamic faiths, because Abraham is a major part of their beliefs. Christians and Jews alike, link their backgrounds to Sarah and Abraham. These religions have differing beliefs and traditions. Nevertheless, they are very similar in numerous ways. The two religions have substantial parallels and differences presented in this paper.
The Jews killed Jesus; however, Christianity is very similar to Judaism, they both advanced on the foundation obeying God, on obedience to his rules and intents.
Jesus wrote the majority of the New Testament, and the original followers of the Christian faith were Jewish. The followers of Jesus thought he was the Messiah, as Jews prophesied in the Ole Testament. Christianity and Judaism believe in the existence of heaven and hell. Judaism considers that death is not the end. Judaism is focused on current day life and not the afterlife. In contrast, Christianity’s views about the

The Jews moral laws are integrated into the five books of Moses, known as the Torah. There are 613 moral commandments, which include the 10 commandments.
Since the obliteration of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, the Jews have not had and single leader over the Jewish people, while in Catholicism the head of the church is the Pope, successor to St. Peter. Most other forms of Christianity have no pope, but have councils of Bishops or other leaders.
Protestants confess directly to God, Catholic declare worldly sins to a Priest, and petty sins to God (Orthodox are similar). God always forgives sins in Jesus. The Jews independently fix their sins. During Yom Kippur, they ask forgiveness from God. Additionally, they ask forgiveness from any people they might have
Judaism origins arises from the times of Abraham when god made a covenant with him and promised to make his lineage a sacred people and give them the holy land. After Abraham, the ‘children’ of Israel were born. Christianity was developed out of Judaism in the 1st Century. They believed Jesus was the fulfillment of the Jewish text ‘Torah’ which is the text that both Christians and Jews alike use. The difference is that Christians also have the New Testament that is full of Jesus teachings, miracles, and revelations of how the world will end. Christianity is based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, those who follow him are known as, Christians.
Jesus is the fulfillment of Judaic prophecies; he is the new Moses imparting the new Law of Love.
Christianity and Judaism are two Abrahamic theologies that have comparable origins, but have various beliefs, practices and teachings. Founded in 1300 BC, Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world today. The Jewish theology began with Abraham, who God sent to Canaan, where it all began. Hebrews took Judaism as their first religion. 14 million people classify themselves as Jewish worldwide today. Coming from Judaism, Christianity was founded in 30 AD and originates from Canaan as well. Most people know that this religion was founded by the son of God, Jesus. Christianity has 2 billion followers worldwide and is one of the largest religions. Both Christianity and Judaism have three major branches. Christianity is broken down into Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. The three major branches in Judaism are Orthodoxy, Conservatives and Reformation. In this essay I will be talking about the similarities and differences of Christianity and Judaism through their beliefs and teachings, as well as their rituals and practices.
Judaism, the original religion of Abraham, is the oldest of the three religions. Their faith is that “The Messiah” is yet to come and hasn’t come yet. They do not believe in Jesus for being the messiah. For the past 2000 years the Jews have been rejecting Jesus as the messiah for just one reason, their faith in the messiah. They do not believe that the Jesus has done the things they were told their messiah would do. I have learned from the readings that I have done that up to this date the Jews are still waiting for their messiah. Jews still believe that their messiah is going to come and take them out of their misery and bring all the Jews together from all the other parts of the world. From my reading I have learned that the main reason Jews refuse to believe in Jesus as their messiah is that they say Jesus hasn’t done the things that were promised through the messiah, for example, bring all the Jews back together in the land of Israel from all over the world. Another belief they hold against Jesus is that, they believe messiah should have been from the family line of David on His father’s side, and Jesus was born through a virgin therefore has no father. These beliefs along with other belief are the difference between Judaism and Christianity. The main reason the two religions differ and are called by two different names today even though had emerged from the same root is Jesus, the disbelief of the Jews in
Judaism and Christianity are key religions in the history of our world, and are still around today. Both of these religions are monotheistic, believing in only YHWH, the God of Abraham. However, if we look deeper, there are many more similarities and differences in these two religions. Some things that are comparable are their political figures, their holy works, and social beliefs.
Out of all the major world religions Judaism and Christianity have the closest relationship. There are many difference and many similarities within these religions mainly because Christianity grew out of Judaism. Many people including Jesus and the twelve disciples were Jews (religionfacts.) The main differences are how each religion views Jesus and God, heaven and hell, and the notion of sin.
Many beliefs of Christianity come from religions other than Judaism. The Jews were the earliest believers of Christ, and had fought over whether to let non-Jews convert. They ultimately decided to spread their beliefs to everyone, and the non-Jews had brought in many ideas from their past religions, therefore, Christianity has many ideas that are based off of other religions, other than Judaism. For instance, some common ideas in Christianity and other religions are resurrection, life after death, and images or metaphors. Another reason one may be led to believe that Christianity rejects the core beliefs of Judaism is that the creation of the Bible, specifically the Old Testament, was greatly based off of the Quran. This is because the original followers invited non-Jews to convert which lead to a greater influence from other religions.
Hundreds of years after Judaism began, the Middle East was once again the birthplace of a religion that would one day be an important part of international politics (Ahmad 565). Christianity, which was founded by Jesus Christ, sprouted from Jewish traditions (565). Like Jews, Christians are also monotheistic, however Christians believe in one God in three persons (565). Christians believe in the majority of the Jews’ beliefs, and the two religions share ancient prophets. While holding up the Ten Commandments, Jesus also expanded upon the moral teachings taught by Judaism (565). “He stressed love for God and compassion for other people (Ahmad 565).” Jesus also taught that all people are equal in God’s eyes. Jesus also preached that those who lived humbly, compassionately, and generously would be rewarded with eternal life. “The Jewish prophets had predicted that a messiah, or one anointed by God, would deliver the Jews from foreign rule and restore the kingdom of Israel (Ahmad
Christians used Jewish traditions as inspiration to develop their own religion in the start of the first century. (Christianity) Jesus was born a Jew and you can trace him back to Abraham so this how Christianity and Judaism connect. Christians also believe in the Old Testament books that is the holy book for the Jewish. So, they believe in Abraham fulfilling God’s covenant, Moses leading the people out of Egypt and into the promised land, and the Ten Commandments. They study and believe all 37 books of the Old Testament, just as Jews do. (Biblical Period, Christianity) Christians also have the New Testament to go along with the Old Testament. The New Testament and the Old Testament combined make up the “Holy Bible” for Christians. (Religion:Three Religions) The New Testament records contains the accounts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the beginnings of the Christian Church including several letters authored by the Apostle Paul, and the revelation of John concerning end times. Christians believe in Heaven and Hell. If you accept Christ Jesus into your heart and devote your life to him, then you will earn a spot in Heaven to spend eternity with the “Holy Trinity”. ( Christianity) God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit make up the “Holy Trinity” that Christians believe in. This is a
For example, Christians think that Jesus was given to Mary by God while she was a virgin, therefore he was a kind of miracle child. This, however, was rendered false by Jews studying the original hebrew text. Rabbi Michael Skobac states: “Isaiah 7:14 is describing an "alma" as giving birth. The word ‘alma’ has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as ‘virgin’” (Jews for Judaism, 2004, par. 18). Also, the crucifiction of Jesus, according to Judaism, is mistranslated, along with the “suffering servant”. Lastly, the importance of Jesus in Judaism and Christianity are very different. In Judaism, it is regarded that “the reality is that Judaism doesn't regard Jesus as particularly important. He's not a big subject” (Jared Klinghoffer, 2005, par.3). The fact that Jews don’t view Jesus as the Messiah, plays an important role in the identity of Judaism. In Christianity, though, people believe that Jesus is very important, and the need to obey his wishes and fulfill his needs are great. In Fact, Christians believe in Jesus for about six main reasons: “Christ Came into the world (to reconcile humans), Christ brings Hope, Christ will Return again to the Earth,Christ founded an Institution (The Church), Christ understands human Suffering, Christ enables men and women to Triumph over sin” (2014, p.6). Christians love Jesus because he
They both travel near and far to spread the word that they believe is truth. They both gain followers and believers while spreading their message. They both perform miracles and faith obstacles that would cause most people to quit but they both have such much love for their God, they push on and forward even if it means they die for others sins. Although in Judaism, the ideas of Heaven and Hell are not that important, if the followers practice the teachings and morals of Moses, they will have a good, fulfilled life. In Christianity, the ultimate goal is to act like Jesus and you will end up in Heaven which is the ultimate goal of
It is known that Christians and Judaism have their agreements and disagreements. Christians believe that salvation come by faith and baptismal (emerged under water in Jesus Name), Jews believe that salvation comes from good deeds and believing in God. Both religions believe that heaven and hell does exist, although Christians believe that Jesus Christ died for us so that we may have eternal life. The Jews focus on the Torah which speaks of a life following this one. Judaism believe that there is a physical place called Sheol where the individual “goes down” after this life.
In Islam, they also believe in forgiveness, another basic Christian principle, Islam teaches that God is always ready to pardon the individual and restore him to the sinless state in which he
Judaism and Christianity each have their own beliefs and traditions, with Judaism being a religion that shaped Christianity as it is today. Both religions were shaped by the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament, which is considered by many to be the biblical law of God (Molloy, 2009). Christians however, consider that in the New Testament with the arrival of God in human form, that our sins were forgiven. In its earliest stages, Christianity was considered a sect of Judaism. Jesus and his apostles even considered themselves Jewish in the early years of Christianity. While followers of Judaism do believe in one God, they do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah or that God is the Holy Trinity.
Christianity and Islam are wide spread religions which impact the lives of believers spiritually. Both religions have had substantial impact on the course of history and have formed the basis of many countries laws and are highly recognized by governments. Though Christianity is more widely known, they both pose the same challenges to each other. Considering the similarities and differences of Christianity and Islam, it can be said they are both very different.
