In this writing prompt we were asked to compare the Authoritarian government to our own Democracy. First things first an Authoritarian is One individual having all the power. A Democracy is a group of people who represent the country. Now, let's get into the differences.
First thing first is that In 1942 Adolf Hitler had full control of germany could do whatever he pleased. In 1942 America Roosevelt was President, but he couldn't do as he pleased because it had to pass through all branches of the main government. Therefore the United States was balanced, Germany was not.
In America, we elect those whom we see fit to run our country. We hold elections and elect a president, vice president, etc. The people have say in what happens in America.
Comparing the U.S. governments ability to meet the needs of its citizens compared to that of a dictatorship is far superior. A dictatorship is designed to benefit one or few individuals that have achieved power using capital or force. Their only concern is for themselves and what will increase their power. The U.S. form of government is restricted to the power of the constitution.
The United States elects a president that is both head of state and head of government. In other democracies, the leader of the government is not both head of state and head of government. In the American form of democracy, there are only two major political parties, in other governments there may be multiple parties represented (IIP Digital, 2008). Our president, and other government officials are elected for a specific period of time, whereas other governments may call an election at any time (IIP Digital, 2008).
There are several people within the states that have the power to chose the President. There is a system to help it is called Electoral College. People would vote as normal and then all the votes for the state would determine the states candidate. This can help or hurt the the people for the opposing candidate. There need to be changes to the Electoral College and how many electoral votes are determined.
As citizens of the United State of America, one of our most important rights is that of which to vote. By voting, the general population has a say in who its leaders are. Votes for local, state, and even federal representatives directly reflect who the constituents want in office. However, America’s highest office is not elected by a vote of the people. Instead we use a confusing and outdated system called the Electoral College. Our president is not elected by the people, but by 538 electors who can legally vote for whomever they choose. Several times in our nations history an elector has voted against the people’s will. Three presidents have been elected into office by the electoral college and
America the place where we the people get to pick the president, actually not there are a few indivals that are called the Electoral College and they really pick who the president will be. There are 538 people in the Electoral College and they pick who the next president will be. The 538 people in the Electoral College consist of 100 senators and 438 repressive from the fifty states. The Electoral College should be abolished because it is undemocratic, not accurate for the people votes, and it is unfair to 3rd party candidates.
United States is a democracy country, which means that we have the freedom to take part of the political
Many American citizens believe that when they vote they are voting for the President, but in reality they are voting for a group of people who then vote for the President. The elected people are decided by the popular vote for each state, but the number of people each state gets to elect is determined by representation in the Senate and House of Representatives. Every state automatically gets two electors (because there is equal
The major differences between democratic, authoritarian, and anarchic political systems are who holds the power, who has freedom/how much, and how much involvement the government has in the workings of its country. For authoritarian states, the power is held mainly by a single person or an elite group of people, few people have freedom, with what freedom they have being limited, and the government, or rather the leader/leaders, is involved in almost every aspect of the country from controlling the economy to making decisions for the lifestyles of its citizens like deciding how many kids they may have or what hair styles are approved. Everything is at the whim of those in charge and can change at any second. Anarchic is the exact opposite of this. In an anarchic government, everyone has power all the power they can take for themselves, nothing is unpermitted as there are no laws and since a government doesn’t exist, it can’t have any involvement in anything. Finally there is the democratic system which is a happy medium between these two extremes. In a democracy, everyone has some power through the right to vote directly or for elected officials who will run the country (who are limited by a constitution of some kind), everyone has freedom within the country’s generally reasonable laws, and government involvement is limited to making laws and regulations within reason to protect its citizens, economy, etc. For example, you would not see a democratic nation forbidding speaking
This system of voting is called the Electoral College. The Electoral College has been the way we’ve voted since 1804, when it was established by our Founding Fathers.
We usually vote for people who we agree with or also share the same beliefs and ideas as us. This is another way that “the people rule”, we get to choose who our senators are or even our president. Even though they may be the ones making decisions we still get a say in who is making those decisions.
Authoritarian government and the U.S government is different is very drastic ways. The U.S lets the people vote for the person who will be president. When authoritarian power is inherited of taken by force. The U.S has many different political parties when authoritarian usually has one overall party. Authoritarian government relies on the state control of controlling media, police or military forces, and terror. The U.S relies on the power of the laws made.
As citizens, we have the power to vote for our representatives who we see fit to run the United States. We elect representatives, senators, and the President in good
As stated by the above quote, the people who are in office are being chosen by voters, but the people who are voting aren’t an accurate representation of the American population. Most
Singapore 's former Prime Minster, Lee Kuan Yew once said: "Human beings, regrettable though it may be, are inherently vicious and have to be restrained" (Kwang, Fernandez, & Tan 1). One can infer from Kuan Yew’s statement that he 's subtly saying that individuals shouldn 't be in control of their choices, yet there ought to be somebody to settle on choices for them. An ideology such as this can stem from an authoritarian government. In this day and age, most nations have a tendency to have a democracy. However, it wasn 't generally that way. Throughout history, there were nations under authoritarian rule. In order to fully understand what an authoritarian regime is, one must know the meaning of it. An authoritarian government is "an oppressive regime that rules through strict, intrusive, and violent enforcement of laws. It can “take the form of a dictatorship, but may also manifest itself in totalitarian bureaucracies or oligarchies" (Ritter 576). An authoritarian regime exists when a leader or a small group of leaders owns all property and are the sole decision makers for the entire population. There are only two questions left to be asked. How are authoritarian regimes created and how do they even stay in power? Authoritarian governments ascend to power due to a postwar upheaval and the leader in the charge; they stay in power by employing a resource trap and having a one party system.
As systems of government, Democracy and Dictatorship exhibit key differences in how leaders are elected, power is distributed and how people are governed. Nations that have a democratic element are those where the people have a substantial say, through a system of voting, about who is representing them in the government, and where leaders are not governing for life.
