United States History, or U.S. History for short, is a course that explores the history of the Americas and how they were formed to come out the way they are today. At Clackamas High School, students have the option to take regular US History as well as Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH). Although the two classes are similar in content, the rigor and depth of information differ immensely between the two courses. There are many distinct features that make APUSH different from regular US History. Notably, the defining characteristic of APUSH is that students are given the option to take a standardized test at the end of the year known as the AP exam where they have the opportunity to earn up credits for a first year introductory U.S. History
This kind of history is about the world as a whole. Studying about the whole world is amazing. Usually studying about the United States and a little of Latin America and South America, this different type of history has curiosity build up, wondering about the past and what is in store in the future. Past histories studied seemed so focused on one specific place at a time, while this perspective gives a different meaning to history. This history shows how much we changed from the past till
High school history textbooks are seen, by students, as presenting the last word on American History. Rarely, if ever, do they question what their text tells them about our collective past. According to James W. Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me, they should be. Loewen has spent considerable time and effort reviewing history texts that were written for high school students. In Lies, he has reviewed twenty texts and has compared them to the actual history. Sadly, not one text measures up to the author's expectation of teaching students to think. What is worse, though, is that students come away from their classes without "having developed the ability to think coherently about social
In History there are World History Part I, World History Part II, World History Part III, United States History Part I, United States History II & III , Civics and Government History, and Social Studies Elective.
When it comes to American history , the credibility of our textbooks has been a problem recent years, especially those in high school. And what we are taught in class seem to be far away from our real life. Facing such an irrelevant and boring subject, most high school students have no choice but to suffer the course and struggle for it. The book Lies My Teacher Told Me may account for this phenomenon to some extent.
History is something that we all have knowledge of. It may be family history, or even your own but we all know of an experience that happened in the past. These experiences make us who we are, and they determine how we think. Not only that but they determine our emotions towards certain topics. Through characters in the book, "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, " written by Jamie Ford, we learn that American identity is based on ones history and if we want America to become a stronger more united place everyone’s history must be accepted.

The study of history and the teaching of history has come under intense public debate in the United States in the last few decades. The “culture-wars” began with the call to add more works by non-Caucasians and women and has bled into the study of history. Not only in the study of history or literature, this debate has spread into American culture like wildfire.
Americas history is what defines us and who we are as a country. We were built on hard work, sacrifice, wanting to be free and independent to be who we want to. Now a-days, we seem to have fallen away from this. Everything is given to us so easily on our computer and through technology that we have no need to work hard anymore. This is the downfall in humanity because as we keep going, life will continue to get easier and we won’t want to do anything. History is our hope so that we can learn from what we did in our past and how things were done then. For starters, we can see what mistakes we did and make sure we don’t do them again. If we continue to the same thing over and over again, there’s no way for our society to improve from this. Our
Students in Colorado marched out of it, Oklahoma’s government doesn’t want to fund it, and there are more horror stories about this curriculum than there are horror movies; however I still want to take AP U.S. History. There are both pros and cons to taking this course, but in the end those positives slightly outweigh the negatives. I want to take AP U.S. History for possible college credit, for a challenge, and simply because I enjoy history.
American history is taught in high schools all over the country. It is held as a core curriculum for every American student because of the importance found in teaching our youth of our “perfect nation” and our “perfect past”. However, contrary to popular belief, James W. Loewen, author of Lies My Teacher Told Me, has found American history to be taught with a completely nationalistic approach. Not only is the history of our country taught with a horribly strong patriotic sentiment, but generally with a misunderstood concept of the history of America by the writers themselves. America has never lived a lie as ruinous as that in which happens in classrooms every day.
When comparing Westover High School and Darton State College, the differences should be very stark. Westover is obviously just a public high school, while Darton is for those who seek higher learning. However, these two learning facilities actually have many more similarities than one would think.
Although I went to Golden West Community College and Rancho Alamitos High School, they both have differences in camaraderie, campus aesthetics, and how it’s functionally ran. Golden West Community College is more difficult in building fellowship whereas Rancho Alamitos High School is more open to comradeship. Golden West is a larger campus and more funded, unlike Rancho Alamitos which is less funded and has a smaller campus. Also, Rancho insists in following rules, being told what to do. On the other hand, Golden West expects you to be responsible, not being told what to do. Golden West is a learning environment in which you think through and apply what you’ve learned; however, Rancho Alamitos is a teaching environment in which you acquire
After analyzing the attached comparison chart, the Spokane School District compares to the other districts as for absences. However, Spokane’s population and number of certified staff is greatly fewer than that of Belton and Neosho district. The areas of significant differences are; number of sick and personal days allowed to be accumulated and number of days available for funeral/death leave.
Saint John's Military School and Stevens High School are both very similar, yet very different. They both have multiple periods with different teachers, standardized tests, and both use similar teaching techniques; however, at St. John’s Military School we don’t go home at the end of the day, and we observe a military structure. Stevens High School is more civilian focused because everyone goes home at the end of the day.
