Nazi Germany wasn’t all that bad for every kid. Likewise, Anne in The Play Anne Frank and Joshua in the movie Life Is Beautiful grew up in a world of war, but each still had a family who loved them and found time play. As well, for the most part had food to eat and beds to sleep in. While similar in these ways, Joshua and Anne’s lives differed significantly from the knowledge of the Holocaust, to living life.
One way in which Joshua and Anne’s lives differed was that Joshua was free and living until being taken to a concentration camp. While refusing to take a bath by hiding in a night table, his father then magically brings the table over to his mother. Joshua then pops out saying “Good morning, Princess”, (Cerami and Benigni 67) and

To continue, Anne didn’t get the freedom and childhood like Joshua did. Anne stresses “I only know it’s funny never to be able to go outdoors...never to breathe fresh air...never to run and shout and jump. It’s the silence in the nights that frightens me most” (Goodrich and Hackett 712). Moreover, Anne was trapped in hiding and struggled to enjoy life as a kid. She struggled containing herself in such a small area and entertaining herself. She did though manage to smile every once in awhile, and found a way to enjoy the little things. A second way that the lives of Joshua and Anne differed was Joshua lacked in knowledge of the Holocaust when taken there and he didn’t comprehend what was going on. Joshua confused says “Uncle, where are we going? I’m so tired” (Cerami and Benigni 69). Joshua is unaware of where he is and his father, Guido creates a game so he does not get scared. Joshua’s time at the concentration camp is based of a lie that his father told him to keep his life beautiful. Joshua’s had no knowledge of what was going on as Anne had full knowledge. She knew exactly what was happening ever since she started hiding in the annex. The morning of their
The first point is the psychological abuse that the holocaust kids went through and how it affects them in them in their everyday life in the present. During the Holocaust kids didn’t generally survive due to the fact that they couldn’t perform the intense labor required in the labor camps. They had to “grow up quickly” and assume roles that children wouldn’t normally have to act out. Even though the children were young they were surprisingly adept in adapting to their situation and using all of the resources available to them at this time. Even with all of theses coping mechanisms and the protection of their parents the
Anne and her family has very hard lives during the Holocaust. They treat you so poorly in the concentration camps. The fact that they hid for a very long time instead of registering, made them prisoners so they were treated even worse.
The Holocaust was a distressing time in history and is not a story everyone can absorb. Both the book, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas written by John Boyne and the film, Life is Beautiful, directed by Robert Benigni, are based upon the real life events of the Holocaust but with a difference. They made clever use of different techniques to dim and censor the reality of the events and interpret it in a more tolerable way. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas depicts the life of a young nine year old boy named Bruno who is the son of the Commandant of the Auschwitz
“It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.” (Anne Frank) Anne Frank was one of the many children who fell victim to the Holocaust during the World War II. Anne’s story is nothing short of a tragedy; she died at the early age of fifteen from Typhus while being held by the Nazi Regime, in the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. Before dying, Anne and her family went into hiding and lived secretly in her father's office building in the Netherlands. While living in the “Annex,” a secret hiding place, she developed many interests such as reading and writing. Anne is famous because she is one of the best-known victims of the Holocaust, her story has been shared with millions in a publication of her diary, and through her writing’s she introduces many people to the massacre and its horror.
Thirteen year old Anne Frank is stuck in an attic for 2 years during World War II. This can sometimes take a toll on one's personality. Anne Frank's book titled "The Diary of Anne Frank" takes people through what it was like to be a Jewish teenager during World War II. Anne and her family was forced to move into hiding, because of the harsh measures being taken by Nazis to rid Europe of Jews. During Anne's time in the annex, readers get to know her well, as she changes from the beginning, to the end of her time in hiding. While Anne at the beginning is different from Anne at the end, she still is consistent in some of her personality traits throughout the entire book. When the tyranny of Hitler began, Anne’s concerns changed, along with
The Author came out with a strong out look on the situation of Anne Franks Development. Anne Frank was a little girl who lived in Amsterdam with her Father, they lived a normal life until the Holocaust took place and for forced Anne into hiding. Sadly the Nazis found out about the Franks hiding and who they were staying with, Otto Frank was they only one who survived. Anne Frank knew that she would even be living a sad and scary life. "Anne’s Voice. I expect I should be describing what it feels like to go into hiding. But I really don’t know yet myself. I only know it’s funny never to be able to go outdoors . .
Many, many people suffered during the Holocaust war. The Jews in particular were in grave danger. The drama ‘Anne Frank’ outlines so many ways that this historical event caused a shift in the mood of the characters and their relationships. Before the Holocaust, Anne Frank was just an ordinary Jewish girl living in Germany. A German leader named Adolf Hitler developed a plan to destroy the Jews and to rule over the specific places where they lived. What Hitler did to these poor Jews, and the sheer terror they endured at the hands of this Nazi leader is purely unfathomable.
The article, “The Girl Who Lived Forever”, by Kristen Lewis, describes the hardships of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl, and her family, who like millions of other Jews, perished at the hands of the Nazis during WWII. Anne Frank lived during one of the most terrifying and horrific historical events the world has ever seen, the Holocaust. She and her family managed to survive for 2 long years in hiding, by living in a secret annex behind her father’s pectin factory. In August of 1944, the SS captured Anne and the others hiding in the annex. All but Otto Frank, Anne’s father, perished in the Nazi concentration camps. Though they lived through unspeakable and unimaginable challenges, Anne, her family and their friends showed a tremendous amount of courage trying to defy Hitler and his evil regime.
The world that people lived in during the Holocaust is described by the personal experiences of the oppressed throughout the story Jack and Rochelle, written by Jack and Rochelle Sutin, and the memoir by Alexander Donat titled The Holocaust Kingdom. The horrifying mindset of the oppressors, particularly the Nazi`s, is illustrated in both books. The vicious and relentless emotional, physical, and psychological abuse the Nazi`s targeted at their victims is depicted in detail. The unspeakable cruelty received by the Jews dramatically altered their state of mind and how they lived their lives. The emotions of despair, distress, depression, hopelessness, helplessness felt by the Jews
Don’t you hate it when your family and strangers treat you in a harsh way. Anne Frank was treated harshly by some people in the secret annex people would yell at her call her spoiled lazy and was always telling her what to do. But some people treated her nicely like Peter VanDaan and her dad in a way that made her feel loved by some people around her. Anne was a twelve year old girl when she was forced into hiding because she was a Jew in Nazi territory during WW2. Anne is treated by the people in the annex in many ways and that effects her character in such a way that changes her character.
Throughout the movie “Life is Beautiful” and the novel “Survival in Auschwitz” are showing the harsh times of the Holocaust. The Holocaust affected millions of people for the rest of their lives. Both Primo Levi (the main character in Survival of Auschwitz) and Guido (the main character in Life is Beautiful) suffered through the dehumanization process, working long harsh hours, but the effects of the dehumanization differ through each main character.
There are many tragic events that have happened in history and one of them is The Holocaust. The book Night written by Elie Wiesel is based on him, a Holocaust survivor, and his experience in the concentration camps. There is also an article titled “Wiesel Offers Students First-Hand Account of Holocaust” by Louis Sahagun that is about Elie Wiesel speaking to students on his involvement with The Holocaust. The film Life is Beautiful is based on The Holocaust as well. It tells the story of a family in the concentration camps. The book Night, the article “Wiesel Offers Students First-Hand Account of Holocaust”, and the film Life is Beautiful share a common message of how families were affected during The Holocaust.
Anne Frank’s diary is one of the most famous examples of how the Jews were treated during Hitler reign of terror and dictatorship. Plus on top of the Germans it did not make anything better with everyone teasing her and being mean and rude to her. The worst part is her mother to her did not even seem like a mother because of how mean she was verbally or in Anne’s mind anyway. It is also weird how she actually got along better with her father. In fact it seemed as if Anne and her mother played favorites. I am making this essay to show how she also had to struggle with her own parents and not only in camp. So with that being said I will show you how her different relationships with her parents improve or decrease while time goes by.
During the devastating time of World War II, a Jewish teenage girl wrote a diary about the gruesome events she witnessed, this diary was named, Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank. Anne Frank lived in Holland and went into hiding when her sister, Margot, got a letter to go to a reception camp. The Franks faced terrifying moments during hiding. They witnessed war outside their window and stayed in the same house without even going outside for about two years. To add on, the Franks had to keep in mind how every day they could be arrested or even die. Sadly Anne and her family are arrested and are sent to Auschwitz, a concentration camp where she would later die. While in hiding, the Franks and the Van Daans, who were also in hiding with them,
They have hope and fear but they try to be positive for their family. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Mrs. Frank just wants to give up everything, but she had hope for it all to end. People have the ability to maintain positive feelings while enduring extremely negative circumstances. People who focus on gratitude felt happier and had fewer problems than those who did not have gratitude. Those who have positive attitudes must have helped face these situations with courage that we remember them today. In the Diary of Anne Frank and Life is Beautiful they both have hope to get out of the mess they are in. In the Diary of Anne Frank, both families have fear for what might happen to them if they get caught from hiding in the secret annex, both families have hope for it all to end and Jews can be finally free of the camps. In Life is Beautiful Guido, Dora, and Giosue have fear of what is gonna happen to them and if they might survive like the others or not, Guido has hope and tries to stay positive for his son, Giosue. Guido didn’t want Giouse to know the truth of why they were in a concentration camp because he didn’t want for his son to have a bad memory of when he was a child and he would might’ve been afraid to be
