“The Lord and Giver of Life” according to Mueller The Holy Spirit gives life in two ways: spiritually and physically. While many people think that physical life is the most important thing, the gift of new spiritual life is even greater. This new life of faith is the principle work of the Holy Spirit. Also, Mueller explains that Salvation is a free gift of God through the work of Jesus Christ. We received the gift through faith, but the Scriptures show that faith is not our work, it is a gift of God. Meaning that the Holy Spirit is the Lord of a merciful giver. Just like God send his one and only son Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sins through his grace. The Holy Spirit is given to us through faith. In 2 Peter 1:20-21 tells us that “Above …show more content…
It gives us the faith and hope that we are not alone. Our natural human flesh gives us the weakness and uncertainty. However, through God’s grace the Holy Spirit reassure and uplift us every day. Some people might call it survival, I called it the Holy Spirit of God. Being a mother of four children, working full time and coming to school once week. It’s pure grace of God giving by the Holy Spirit. The passion of waking up every day and wanting to do better for me and my family. It’s God’s grace and the Holy Spirit. As Paul states in Romans 5:5-6 “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for ungodly.” Giving us a of God’s love through the Holy Spirit’s work. Likewise, it’s comforting by giving us the sense that we are not alone. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus himself tells us “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
In chapter four of, Gracious Christianity, it covers the spirit of life. Basically, the Spirit that is given by God gives us life mentally, physically, and spiritually to all Christians (78). One concept the authors talk about was powerful, “Instead, we
Near the beginning of the book, Covington brings up a point where he essentially states that when people of the Pentecostal church have no luck in the rest of their lives, they try to feel the Holy Ghost and to call upon him (DC: 12). This can also be interpreted into many other religions, as when people are experiencing hardships, one of the most common phrases that someone would utter would be that they are “praying for you”, or that they “send their prayers”. As one can tell, this form of a higher power is more of a release or an escape from the daily trials of life. People rejoice in the feeling that there is some higher power that has control over what they do not. For some people, including those of the Pentecostal church; it provides them with the comfort of knowing that the Holy Spirit is surrounding
In The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke, Robert Stronstad adduces a succinct interpretation of the significance of Holy Spirit according to Lukan theology. He examines both the Spirit’s activity in Luke-Acts and the implications of the Gift of the Spirit in empowering, equipping, and commissioning of God’s people for service. The text is separated into six sections covering “the Holy Spirit in Luke-Acts”, “the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament”, “the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke”, “The Holy Spirit at Pentecost”, “The Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles” and the Charismatic Theology of St. Luke.
Spiritual Gifts are special divine empowerments given to us through the Holy Spirit. These Gifts however are not for our own personal benefit, instead the main purpose is to equip us to be able to serve and glorify the Lord while Jesus continues His ministry though us. When we use our Spiritual Gifts to glorify the Lord we are contributing to the overall heath and growth of the church. 1 Peter 4:10-11 shows us that we have each been given a Gift by the Holy Spirit and when we use that Gift we find the strength we need to build up the Church. The Gifts of the Spirit are messages of wisdom, knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, miraculous powers, prophecy,
• According the Dr. Earley and John 14:16–17, another name for the Holy Spirit is the Comforter. (Be able to fill in the blank.)
The Holy Spirit, as a member of the Trinity, has eternally existed and worked with the Father and the Son to bring about the plan for our salvation (CCC 686). In a similar vein, the Holy Spirit, along with the Word of God, “are at the origin of the being and life of every creature” (CCC 703). The Holy Spirit is present with humanity from the beginning of time and the beginning of our individual lives, for as the Gospel writer John says, “he abides with you, and he will be in you” (John 14:17).
When an individual comes to faith in Christ he or she is not left alone to battle the struggles of sin, lead people to Jesus, experience heartache and sorrow, find God’s will, or live a life that is pleasing and honoring to the Lord. No, Christians are given an awesome gift that cannot be purchased or earned. Believers are blessed with the gift of a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:16, “ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”(ESV) Sadly, many believers do not have a correct understanding of who the Holy Spirit is, or what He does. The purpose of this paper is define the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, and is equal in essence and in power in the Trinity to the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit was originally sent by Jesus after his ascension into heaven, Jesus himself saying that he would send a “helper” after he departed from the earth. This spirit is worshipped just as the Father and the Son are, and also participated in the creation of the world, sustaining and giving life continually to all things, and exhibits the uniqueness and characteristics of the third person in the Trinity. This is the same Holy Spirit that divinely inspired the infallible word of God, and although the canon is now closed, the Holy Spirit still works powerfully and constantly in the life of the church and in believers. The Holy Spirit is the giver of spiritual gifts, which are given at conversion and help the believer become more like their creator. The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in the life of all true believers, and this Spirit turns cowardly men into mighty warriors for Christ who accomplish actions way beyond their natural ability.
The Bible talks about several roles that the Holy Spirit plays in the lives of people today. The first thing that the Holy Spirit does is he provides conviction of sin to all people. John 16:8 said, “And when he comes, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment”. Also, the Holy Spirit works in several ways for many believers that follow Christ. One of the roles that He works is to serve as a comforter and a helper in our daily life. In John 14:16-17 this means that there is someone that is helping us and guiding us and encouraging us during difficult time of
They gave me this hope by knowing that the church will always have my back. When I am lost, and feel like sad or unmotivated I know I can go to church on a Sunday morning and seek God. The church has given many me hope other ways as well. Probably the biggest though are my friends. Though church, over the years I have made and maintained close friendships. If it was not for the church, who knows if we would have such a strong bond as we do now. The church changed me. This hope the church has given me, whether through my friends or through God, drives me. It is the motivation to move on to the next day, and then next, and so on. I no longer look back at the past in regret or in anxiety, but in hope. I ask for my forgiveness, and then move on to tomorrow, inspired to do good. Though this hope, I want to live my footprint for all of the world to
The various gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in Scripture are conveyed according to the will of the Holy Spirit to every man for the eventual purpose of the edification and building up the church body.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit is the source of life and creation. The Holy Spirit worked in the lives of men that God placed His Spirit upon such as prophets and kings to perform His service. Therefore, the Holy Spirit was not given universally in the Old Testament but selectively and temporarily for service. However, in the New Testament, the Spirit grants life to God’s people and believers are brought to faith, in Jesus, through the sovereign work of the Spirit.
• The Holy Spirit is the spirit of love that dwells in each and every last one of us, it is not a part of the body so if the body dies, the spirit will continue to live. Because love never dies.
The Holy Spirit plays a very vital role in the lives of each and every believer; He can strengthen us with a strength that we cannot even begin to muster up in ourselves. He can bring us joy that we cannot even begin to find in the things of this world. He can bring peace to our lives more than anything that we can ever find on this earth. “The Holy Spirit which is primarily an energizing process, is also a revealing, refining, consuming, illuminating process, and one by which we are made to glow with love to God, and love to man, and love to souls.”
Les answers “The role of the Holy Spirit in spiritual transformation is to bear witness with our spirits that we are the sons and daughters of God. Les again scratched the surface here on the Holy Spirit’s role in our transformation. The Holy Spirit’s role is to form and transform our inner nature. He opens our eyes to the present truth of scripture. He makes us aware of God’s presence and counsels us in a way to maintain healthy habits of holiness. He is essentially our best friend that has the transforming power that no human has. His revealing power of unveiling our eyes to truth enables further transformation of our minds to be more Christ-like in
