John Colter and Tom Murphy are very much alike, but different at the same time. They where both explores. John Colter is a very special man because not much is known about him. What I do know is that in 1801 he traveled all by himself. In 1806, when the returning expedition reached what is now North Dakota, Colter parted ways with Lewis and Clark, joining up with two fur trappers from Illinois, Forrest Hancock and Joseph Dickson, on their way to the Yellowstone River. Tom Murphy was a survivor. He traveled way out to Yellow Stone with only a bag of food, a stove, mittens, small emergency kit, two water bottles, the warmest jacket, head lamp, eighth foot square tent, and a three pound down sleeping bag. John Henry Weber was born in 1779 in Altona near Hamburg, at that time part of Denmark. By 1807 he migrated to America to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri where he became acquainted with William Ashley and Andrew Henry. In 1822 Weber enlisted in the Ashley-Henry Fur Company which departed St. Louis in the spring bound for the beaver trade of the Upper Missouri River. After reaching the mouth of the Yellowstone River, the company divided into two trapping brigades and it appears very probable that Weber commanded one of them. Certainly Weber was considered one of the most prominent members of the entire Ashley-Henry company.
His family moved west to Missouri where all but James died. When James turned 13 years old he became a black-smith apprentice and could handle a lot of weapons. Later on he started his frontier life by joining a trapping group in St. Louis. He then started a career of being a guide, while in his career he had lead a group of soldiers to there fighting positions. Later on he would also guide several parties over a river trail. Around 1868 he would retire to his farm and would then die in 1881. Throughout his life he did a lot of things, and owned a lot of titles such as: trapper, trader, guide, merchant, ECT. John Colter was considered one of the best hunters in the group, and they often sent him out alone to scout ahead for game. A Shoshone named Old Toby guided the Corps in the Rocky mountain range to find the Lolo Trail. Even Seaman, Lewis’ dog, played a crucial role in the expedition, saving lives on multiple instances. Each of these people was vital to the success of the mission, even though they were not often acknowledged for their role.
James Bridger was born to loving parents on March 17, 1804. He was born the son of an innkeeper who loved him dearly. In 1820 Bridger explored the west numerous times. He was the first white man recorded to ever see the amazing Great Salt Lake. During his adventurous life he was a hunter, trapper, Indian fighter, and a guide. At age 13 he was a daring blacksmith apprentice. While he was an apprentice, he learned to handle dangerous machinery, wild horses, and wonderful guns. Since Jim Bridger was shrewd, honest, and brave. He married three times to Native American women. He was outlived all of his three beautiful wives. Bridger sold his beloved Fort Bridger to the Mormons for $8,000. Later as his life went on he was a guide for the U.S forces

In 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark gathered a crew of 45 men and set out into the unexplored Louisiana Territory to discover new trade routes, animals and plant species. Once they arrived in North Dakota, the infamous Sacajawea and her infant son joined the crew on their journey. However, half of the group abandoned the trip and returned home, but Lewis and Clark persevered and discovered some of the famous animals we know today, such as the grizzly bear and prairie dog. In 1806, the crew reached the coast of Oregon, set up Fort Clatson, and returned to St. Louis, Missouri. This was the first official trip to the Pacific Coast.
