Have you ever saw criminals on the news? Most likely you did and obviously you know that these people made the wrong choices, BUT WHY? This year all 5th grade classes had lessons with Officer Tim who was Mentoring, Advising, Guiding, and Instructing Children. In our MAGIC lesson, I learned that Marijuana, Peer Pressure, and Gangs could lead to a lot of trouble.

First off Marijuana can lead to many problems in your health. For instance, Marijuana users have an increased risk of cancer and breathing problems, it can lead to paranoia, it can slow reaction time, you may have altered thoughts, and it increases your appetite, gives you red eyes and dry mouth. Now, peer pressure could be good, such as pressuring your friends to excel in schoolwork or in other activities. However, it can also be negative and put you in danger. For example, if you want to fit in and one of your “friends” puts you on the spot pressuring you to do something that you wouldn’t normally do, such as drugs, stealing, bullying, and many more. At the end if you do anything bad you are the one who is going to pay and take responsibility for it even if you were pressured to do it. Therefore, look for good friends that will pressure you in a positive way not a negative way.

Finally, Gangs are violent and will ruin you for the rest of your life. Once you join a gang you can’t get out without consequences. They will pressure you to do things and you can end up in JAIL. Gang members are always easy to recognize based on their tattoos, clothes, signs, or activities. Gang members usually have low self-esteem. Violence is the second leading cause of death for those individuals between the ages of 15-24. To help yourself fulfill your time by playing sports, clubs, art, crafts, reading, religious activities and academics. This can help you stay out of
