After completing the Conley Readiness Index assessment, I have am surprised that I have some strengths. One strength includes contextual awareness. I am very aware of expecting the structure of college coursework, and the work load. College isn’t easy, and it’s much different than High School. Coming from Massachusetts, most of my High School work was about passing the standardized tests, which resulted with quizzes every week. I have found in college that professors don’t mind taking the time to explain the material; that when the quizzes, and tests come around, we will be more prepared. I am also very aware of my academic plan in order to prepare for my career plans. Another strength I had was procedural awareness. I understand the steps to achieve my postsecondary and career aspirations including how to add, and or drop classes. I know how to research the requirements I need to fulfill in order to get into my desired career. I am very strong with the cultural awareness. I know how to ask for help, and how to contact my advisor. I am also aware of the differences between the cultural norms of High School and college. My strengths will make me a better person …show more content…
I will admit that that I am not entirely aware of the financial aid process. I do not know much of the tuition, and fees and I sure that can affect me in some way if payment is not paid on time. Another topic that I am not entirely strong in is interpretation. I do have trouble evaluating information and understanding it. I may have some problems with understanding what I am reading and or hearing, and I may have to read it over and over again to understand the material. The last topic that I need to work on is communication. I am not very strong with organizing and creating a work product based on my information. I need to take courses that will help me research, and understand how to organize my work
In this semester, my strengths included having prior knowledge to assist me in the classes. An example of

Evaluating the Conley Readiness Index assessment after completion demonstrates my strengths in the area of key cognitive strategies such as “Procedural Awareness” scoring 5 out of 5. In which helps me to become a better student by acquiring knowledge and taking steps to achieve my academic goals. As of last week, I left my academic advisor office with multiple paperwork indicating on whether I am on the right track with my classes, what classes I must take further on the year, and what schools offer programs with the relation of biology to transfer to. As I scored another 5 out of 5 in the skill of “Financial Aid Awareness” with the ability to gather information on financial aid, understanding future costs of loans and identifying
Through the course Strategies for College Success Cpd 150 taught by Michelle Garland one can learn many things. Despite this course possibly being more helpful to others then it was to me it did still teach me multiple things. At the beginning of the course I had been dealing with relationship drama and figuring out how online college works, now halfway through the course the drama has subsided and I understand how online college works.I have learned that one of the most important factors of college success is determination. It is a person's ability to keep trying as hard as they can no matter what comes their way. I say this because college can be difficult and even seem pointless at times, but those who are determined enough to keep going, to keep trying, will eventually succeed. Although I am stubborn I have issues staying determined, I do generally accomplish what I need to. Another skill going along with determination is the ability to seperate the various areas of ones life. For example the ability to have a fight with your best friend then go to class and learn just fine. Now while this can be harmfull as well, since it does involve temporarily bottling your emotions, it can also
After reviewing the CRI (Conley Readiness Index) I have identified a couple of aspects of myself in my educational career that are very beneficial, and also very detrimental to my overall success in college, aspects such as my financial aid awareness and my procedural awareness are the highest I scored on. While I scored poorly on some very key aspects such as communication and precision/accuracy which both fall under the think portion of the CRI.
Gary Colombo, Robert Cullen, and Bonnie Lisle in their book “Rereading America” feel that commencing college is a very disturbing experience. So many things we have to deal while starting college, but the major challenges are expanded difficulty levels and higher expectation which we are not familiar over the years of high school. In order to solve this issue, we have to remodel ourselves by taking up the challenge and rethink about our strength and flaws. To succeed in college we need to be mentally strong and dedicated towards our goal.
Students in AP courses typically are required to write more essays and solve through provoking problems that normal students typically do not do (Grove). These various skills that are developed, such as the critical thinking and high-level calculating, help to pave the road for success with students (Davis). Gaining these essential skills while in high school helps to shape healthy habits in students and prepare them for their future in college. For example, AP courses contain different levels of rigor and commitment than a normal course offers a student, which offers students a glance at college work and expectations (Grove). Therefore, the student will be better prepared for the workload and level of intensity that exists in a college atmosphere. Participation in an AP course can help to develop essential skills that students will need later in their academic lives once they reach
Current strengths: I have developed respect for the views of others and I am able to show empathy (understanding).
College is indirectly served to have fun, make new friends, and learn about ourselves. As an attendant at Miami-Dade College I would never forget the real reason for enrolling in this institution. Any other individual who is a current student should know that education is the knowledge of putting potential to maximum use. Throughout the semester I have been given various assignments and objectives to comprehend making it challenging. At Miami-Dade College, the professors offer a variety of ways that can ensure academic success. My academic success this semester came with being able to be self-motivated, communicate with professors, and use available resources throughout the campus.
Determining college readiness is an essential part in determining who will qualify as a good candidate for admission into a college or a university. The last thing that colleges want is for students to qualify for admission and drop out, this affects drop out rate and graduation rate. According Robin Chait and Andrea Venezia (2009),
This semester I have grown as a student in the area of college readiness. This has allowed me to feel more planned for college. I have gained knowledge about college and how to prepare in order to be successful. In advisory we read a “college- going 101 timeline,” which provided steps on how to get ready for college. It gave me a list of procedures I can follow throughout high school. Some procedures it gave me where to; begin keeping a folder of important information, create a list of possible colleges to apply to, and attend a college fair.
One of my best strong suits is the fact that if given a due date and an assignment, I will do my best, and this will show with my final product. My grandfather has always said that “every day in every way I am getting better and better”, and I truly believe in this statement. At Georgetown, I will be able to get better every single day, but I will also get those around me better. I like to believe that I hold those around me to a high standard, and vice versa, in order for us to perform at our best at all times. Going to college is an opportunity unlike any other in the sense that you go to get a great education that will best prepare you for life after college, and at Georgetown I will be able to do this
Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
Throughout history, college has been a staple for people in America. Young high school graduates continuing their education to guarantee themselves a successful future in a career they feel passionate about. College helps build and expands one’s mind. Not only do students learn more in classes, the build social skills and critical thinking. Students attending college grow in all aspects of the mind. For most students in the 21st century, it has become somewhat of a norm to apply and continue education after high school. Every student wants to push themselves to achieve greatness. The rush of college applications includes a lot such as: writing essays, applying for scholarships, and taking the SATs. The SAT is a worldwide recognized test that
