Enraged by the bombings, the United States government responded by raiding the headquarters of radical organizations and arresting thousands of suspected radicals. Several thousand who were aliens were deported. The largest raids occurred on January 2, 1920 when over 4000 suspected radicals were seized nationwide. Over 800 were arrested in New England from locations that included Boston, Brockton, Chelsea, Fitchburg, Lawrence, and Lynn.
On April 29, 1920, several days before the arrests of Sacco and Vanzetti, Attorney General Palmer warned the nation that the Department of Justice had uncovered plots against the lives of over twenty federal and state officials as part of planned May Day (May 1st) celebrations. May Day, also known as International

He deported 249 RUSSIAN IMMIGRANTS without just cause. The so-called "SOVIET ARK" was sent back to Mother Russia. With Palmer's sponsorship, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was created under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover. In January of 1920, federal agents broke into the homes of suspected anarchists without search warrants, jailed labor leaders, and held about 5,000 citizens without respecting their right to legal counsel. Palmer felt that American civil liberties were less important than rooting out potential wrongdoers. Eventually most of the detainees were released, but some were …show more content…
During the red scare the government was also worried about the threat of communism,so the United states started to act. A man named Palmer an attorney general of the united states government started a antiradical division of the government to be lead by J. Edgar Hoover and is now known as the FBI. They believed that civil liberties were not as important as protecting america.
The American populace also was very anti-communism they formed groups like the american legion. They thought that any person who didn't have and extreme right wing view was a communist . In some rare cases there would be hate crimes against protesting workers for being
The Red scare was a series of witch hunts for suspected communist sympathetic members of congress and public office holding Citizens who were supposedly “Red” this lasted from (1919-1920) started by the Bolshevik revolution in Russia. During the first war the Red Scared was represented the widespread concern that Americans had developed over the fear of communist subversion within society. The American people went into a mass hysteric frenzy over the news and many
The Internet has played a large role in my interest in conspiracy theories. Although I definitely do not believe all of them, they are fun to look into and are good tools for procrastination. Falling deeper into the hole that is Wikipedia, I spent a large amount of my free time “researching” them. It got to the point where I had to force myself to actually work on homework instead. However, I am not one of those crazy conspiracy theorists; I am only interested in ones that seem legit. All interesting conspiracy theories have similar qualities. A majority of them involve the government or celebrities. And depending on the theory, they are believable.
On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning. Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks…, n.d.). All in all, America was changed forever.
Throughout history, people have attempted to come up with explanations to make sense of events which could not be comprehend, such explanations are commonly known as conspiracy theories. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the official definition of conspiracy theory is “a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators.” These theories can range from minor events, to large scale terrorist attacks. A few well known theories include, Bill Clinton caused 9/11, the Earth is flat, and a reptilian race is planning to take over the Earth. Conspiracy theories can inflict various amount of damage, but it dependent on the conspiracy theory context. (Mckay). In an
Once you believe in a conspiracy it is easy to believe in the possibility of other conspiracies even if the other conspiracies are improbable and contradictory. Conspiracy theory is defined as “a proposed plot by powerful people or organizations working together in secret to accomplish some (usually sinister) goal.” Conspiracy theorists’ skepticism of official narratives may be so intense that many alternative theories are simultaneously endorsed in spite of many contradictions between them.
The Red Scare represented the widespread concern that Americans had developed over the fear of communist subversion within society. Americans believed, especially during the Cold War, which was a period of tension between the United States and Soviet Union, that communism was attempting to infiltrate every aspect of their lives. While this is not necessarily the best analogy, you can relate the widespread fear of communism during the Cold War as being similar to the heightened alert Americans had toward terrorism and suspected terrorists during the beginning of the modern century.
The Red Scare took place in the late 1940’s and early 50’s during the Cold War and was an event that occurred in the U.S. The Red Scare was the episode of Americans being afraid of the spread of communism which led America to take desperate actions to stop it from spreading such as McCarthyism. One of the many things America did was make it mandatory for federal employees to be analyzed to tell if they were a communist. Another was the HUAC (House of Un-American Activities Committee)
The Red Scare, also known as, McCarthyism started in the early 1950’s. It got the name McCarthyism from Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy. McCarthy started The Red Scare. It was very similar to a witch hunt but, it wasn’t witches they were hunting for. They were searching for communist. The Red Scare was a horrible and cruel period during the early 1900’s.
After Red Scare is the term the fear of Communism in America held in the 1900’s. Following World War I, The Soviet Union, led by Joseph Stalin, began taking over countries and putting in Communist governments. To make fear worse the Czechoslovakia was taken over by by the soviet union having spy’s inside the Czechoslovakian government as high ranking officials. This put the fear of God in Americans because we didn’t know who could have been a Communist spy sent here by Russia destroy America.“Few periods in American history have been so dramatic, so fraught with mystery or so brothing with fear and hysteria as were the days of the great Red Scare.” (Robert K. Murray). Also we saw a rash of accusations by man named Joseph Mccarthy used his tactic of Mccarthyism to accuse many innocent Americans of being Communist.
The Second Red Scare was a period of heightened fears of the Soviet Union and the political ideology of Communism. The paranoia and hysteria inherent to this period led to discrimination of Communists. Joseph McCarthy was a main player in this Red Scare, which was sometimes called the “Witch-Hunts in Washington.” He was a Wisconsin senator who made claims against those whom he suspected of being Communists or Communist sympathizers.
If anyone had to show any type of interests in the Union of communism, they might consider you being undercover. They can have someone from the Union to come over to your household and ask you the same questions over and over again until you confess other than that, you’ll get thrown in prison. This period was tragic, overwhelming, and devastating to be a U.S. citizen. Your trust and loyalty was always being questioned over and over again. Then again, you have to keep an eye on what you be speaking and saying, especially being in the public with everyone surrounding you and you only, because the Union has a way of taking your words and translating them into their owns, making you look like a liar, a suspect and being undercover. Many people were living in horror. Men and women thought the Union was going to take their children away from them; then again, it was a very good time because the time period had passed over then. On September 11, 2001 a terrorist attack was happening in the city of New York City, NY. The exact same kind of emotional feeling and that had gone on in the 1919-1920 started to suddenly happen again after the terrorist
This seemingly harmless action, and the bombings around the country in connection with the Red Scare, led to the start of blaming the American Communist Party for domestic disturbances to the status quo. The fact that Communist Party members were heads and members of labor unions, allowed Big Business owners and special interest groups to direct blame for radical actions such as work strikes or demands for wage compensation on to the Communists, allowing them to ignore, or dismiss any grievance brought against them; while at the same time tarnishing the image and reputation of the Communist Party (Schrecker, 14). In addition, the exaggeration of radicalism at the time allowed organizations like the FBI and law enforcement to expand and improve their image among the general public, which eventually led to J. Edgar Hoover being one of the figureheads of anticommunism (Schrecker, 15).
To most a fairy tale, to some an interesting topic of discussion, however, to a small population, 5 % to be exact, Government conspiracy does exist. How, you might ask, do I intend to prove that indeed government conspiracy is real? I do not intend to prove it. In fact I only intend to inform you of its ever growing ploy of world domination, capitalism and control and open your mind to the idea that government conspiracy is out there. Throughout history as it is known to repeat itself, I will show facts that support this “theory” and dismiss the legendary lies we have been taught to believe through a system known as memetics.
Conspiracy theories are designed to make sense even though they are entirely false. They also get out of control when they get a huge following of people that haven’t put time into research to tell if the theory is valid or not. When ridiculous conspiracy theories come up, they can be easily debunked. I will go over multiple conspiracy theories and being to prove them wrong by breaking them down and presenting facts that make these theories not possible.
Conspiracy theories, everyone has heard their fair share. 9-11 was an inside job, big corporations are creating a New World Order behind the scenes and of course all the UFO theories. But all these theories normally stay within the communities that create them, only getting mainstream media attention for a short while, before going back to being an internet forum discussion. But there has been one conspiracy theory big enough these past years to get media attention again and again, former senator and now President Obama's heritage. Ta-Nehisi Coates his statement "Barack Obama governs a nation enlightened enough to send an African American to the White House, but not enlightened enough to accept a black man as its president." is supported by the amount of false allegations and conspiracy theories surrounding President Obama's heritage and religion being picked up by the mainstream media.
