Mean Girls (2004) follows the journey of sixteen year old Cady (Lindsay Lohan) in her first year at a public school in suburban America - a stark contrast to the previous twelve years of her life: being homeschooled in Africa. Cady moves to Evanston, Illinois and soon finds herself in with 'The Plastics ', the "teen royalty" of Northshore High School, led by the 'Queen Bee ', Regina George (Rachel McAdams). The Plastics in Mean Girls are an example of a neo-tribe, as evidenced by Cady 's observation that "Having lunch with The Plastics was like leaving the actual world and entering 'Girl World '. Many people, especially young women, do aspire to be as attractive as they can be, which corresponds to weighing less and thus choosing to limit caloric consumption. To me Diet Coke is the a natural, sensible choice: if you 're after a soft-drink, why would you want to consume the full-sugar regular variety, when you can opt for the Diet version for practically the same taste, and other benefits, but with none of the calories? Watching Mean Girls has strengthened my view of Diet Coke as a drink for those who are in control of their lives and want to lose weight, thus becoming more beautiful, popular and successful socially and one of the reasons I consume this product is that I hope to emulate these characteristics, thus it is my beverage of choice. Fendi As Janis is telling Cady about the different cliques at their school, she ponders "How do I begin to explain Regina George?" This is followed by comments and opinions by different students ': "Regina George is flawless" "She has two Fendi purses and a silver Lexus". The fact that the second comment made about her describes the products that she owns says a lot about our consumer culture and recognition of brands, and the way we look up to people. Mean Girls emphasises that Regina is "fabulous, but she 's evil" - despite her attractiveness and the respect she is given, her behaviour and personality leave much to be desired.
