Testing cosmetics on animals is not only cruel and inhumane, but it has been proven to produce inaccurate results. Testing on animals has become an every day occurrence and routinely happens in the cosmetic industry. It costs billions of dollars each year and produces ineffective results. Animals are treated inhumanely during testing, as they are shaved and have chemicals spread onto their bodies and chemicals sprayed into their eyes. Animal species are different just as animals are different from humans so test results vary and provide inaccurate and unreliable results. The Food and Drug Administration no longer requires testing on animals in the United States prior to the sale of cosmetics, and we, as consumers, can help put an end to cosmetic testing on animals. Further, there are alternative tests that cosmetic companies can use which would eliminate animal testing and produce more accurate results. Cosmetic companies are using animals to test products like skin cream, perfume, make-up and shampoo. As we spend so much money on cosmetic testing on animals, one should be reminded how different animals really are from humans which makes results completely unreliable in most cases. Also, different animal species tested may have one result and another animal species may produce an entirely different result. One test result might indicate that a chemical is safe while another test on a different type of animal might indicate that the chemical is harmful. This then provides the cosmetic company with a failed and inaccurate testing result and could even pose risks to consumers. This makes the testing on animals seem unnecessary since they are not accurate. Testing on animals has been done in the past for medical and science purposes and is now being done to test cosmetics to determine whether or not they are safe for humans.
