Going through cosmetology school gave you the expertise you need to cut and style hair. People come to you because you make them look and feel their best. In order to become a cosmetologist, I will have to take certain steps. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, I must graduate from a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school. I must also have a high school diploma or equivalent. The ages vary from state to a state of how old I have to be to attend a hair school. Most states require that I to be at least 17 or 18 to apply. There are a lot of steps in getting education and training for a career in Cosmetology. The minimum education level required for this career is postsecondary training. There is no such thing as maximum training in cosmetology because a person can keep training after receiving the credentials necessary to start a career in cosmetology. ‘Cosmetology programs generally grant certificates, diplomas or associate's degrees, rather than bachelor's degrees’ (Bachelor’s). All the education necessary is a high school diploma, cosmetology diploma, and a certificate or associate's degree program. The education needed for cosmetology can range anywhere from 9 months to 2 years. The minimal amount for this education in cosmetology is from $5,000 to $10,000. Before I graduated from high school, I devised a five year plan for myself. First, I would attend SUNY Albany to obtain a degree in business. Then, I would attend a cosmetology school, acquire the 1,000 hours needed to take my state board exams, take those exams to finally secure my cosmetology license. All of this would eventually lead to opening my own salon in the future. About a month before my graduation, an ambulance bolted my mom to the hospital.

The greatest accomplishment in my life thus far has been graduating high school. Academics has always been very significant to me. Neither my Mother or my Father graduated from high school and they have always encouraged me to receive my diploma. with the diploma came pride, being the first person in my family to get a higher education and knowing I'm one step closer to my career.

If you want to be a cosmetologist, I think that’s a great idea! Cosmetology requires you to go to school for it but it can be very interesting and joyful. Sophomore year of high school, I heard about the cosmetology program. I was admitted and always aced the tests without much effort, I didn’t feel challenged nor did I feel the topics I was learning about were rewarding. It quickly became stale to me and I realized it was not the path I was destine to walk. Even though I was leaving school early to attend cosmetology, I would much rather be in a science class that challenged me than ace all my tests about hair. When I came to Blue Hills Regional, I thought I would want Early Education, Auto Body, or Cosmetology. Even though I thought I knew what shops I was interested in I still told myself to keep an open mind. That’s exactly what I did. I kept an open mind throughout every shop. I worked hard and tried to complete everything with effort and learn more about the shop. This benefited me a lot because I learned so much about the program, the teachers, and life in general.
