Question 1.
a)
i. The term “robot” was first introduced by Karel Čapek, who wrote a play called “RUR” in 1920. ii. The term “robotics” was first introduced by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in one of his short stories. iii. Nowadays the term “robotics” is used to define a branch of technology that deals with design, construction, operation and application of robots (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015)
b)
The term “anthropomorphism” is used to describe the attribution of human characteristics or behaviour to a god, animal, or object (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015). “Autonomy”, can be defined as “self-governing” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2015). When applied to robotics, autonomy means that a vehicle is able to perform tasks without explicit human

The term and idea of “robots” comes from a play called Rossum’s Universal Robots. In the Science fiction play, the robots, products of R.U.R factory, revolt and murder all employees at the factory except for the architect. For what may be the earliest idea of “robots” is not what we consider to be today. The original robots in the play are described as synthetic organisms and the result of a recently discovered _____. The cause of the downfall of man was in the development of the robot’s soul. It was not until The Mechanical Man, produced a year later, that introduced a human sized mechanical machine that was controlled through a ____. Rossum’s roboti were not made from wires or mechanical parts but synthetic matter. In Rossum’s play, the robots are less robotic and more clone derivatives from humans. Although Czech author Karel Capek coined the term
The history of military robotics dates back to World War II and the Cold War. During those times of spying, weaponry and strategic attacks, these robots were in the form of Germany’s type of robotics and Russian weaponry called “teletanks”.
Computer assisted surgery and robotic assisted surgery are both technology developments that use robotic systems to aid surgeons in surgical procedures. The term "robot" was first coined by the Czech playwright, Karel Capek, in 1921 in his play Rossom 's Universal Robots. The word "robot" is from the check word “robota” which means forced labor. (Palep, 2009). Robots are taking on more of a role outside of just imagination but in reality. Robots were once known as machines that performed repetitive tasks and now they have taken on the role of being known as highly intelligent robots and are becoming popular in culture with human like characteristics. Even though robots still are
In the past, robots were starting to come around in around the year 270 BCE. Based on the article, “Robots Long Ago”, by Karen Brinkmann, the article explains that “Every robot is a device that can carry out a complex series of actions automatically.” In other words, any object that functions actions automatically is basically a robot. On paragraph 2, it starts that “Around the year 270 BCE, a Greek scientist named Ctesibius dreamed of creating objects that would help people complete certain tasks.” he ended up, “inventing a clock that use mechanical technology to keep track of time.”
Robotics back in the 1900’s were considered are due to expensive equipment and programming systems until People started to make them to sell to others and become rich. The robotic industries started with
The historical backdrop of military robots could be followed over to the times of World War II. Throughout the time of World War II and the Cold War, these robots were as German Goliath followed and Soviet teletanks. It is additionally accepted that military robots history might be gone once again to the nineteenth century, absolutely in 1898. The history starts with the innovation of radio controlled watercraft proposed for military use by Nicola Tesla. He offered his development to US naval force to prepare radio controlled torpedoes yet the war fleet declined his offer. Later, he offered his creation to the United Kingdom.
The first programmable robot, crudely named the ‘Unimate’ was created and designed by George Devol and Joseph Engelberger in 1956 (Rosen, 2011). The apparatus, although now seen to be very primitive, was revisionary at the time as it’s motors could reach an accuracy of 1/2500th of a centimetre. Devol simultaneously coined the term ‘Universal Automation’ (History of Industrial Robots, 2012).
Technology has advanced rapidly over the years, illustrating the potential disasters that may come from further advancements. This is why many novels or movies revolve around this concept as just the thought of a sentient robot not only fascinates us, but scares us as well. There are potential risks that can occur and when at that point, the technology becomes more advanced than humans. This fear creates fascinating theories on the possibilities of future dystopian worlds as it may actually become reality.
To begin, robotic development allows for technological growth as well as more convenience. Over the years, there have been many inventions made, that make life a lot easier. A lot of these new creations, were inspired by older developments, but they were improved for a product easier to
Robots are a computer machines that are designed to perform many physical tasks either domestic or industrial. Robots have severely and positively impacted life and are intended to positively impact future life. They make it really easy to accomplish tasks and save humans from doing the most difficult tasks. They have developed to the point where they have revolted against people and are advancing to take over the world by taking over humans and preventing humans from completing undesired tasks. They are considered to be more flexible and more adaptable than other automated systems. This technology is advancing over years and robots are now able to perform many tasks more quickly, cheaply and accurately than humans. There were many domestic solutions of the use of robotics in the past when the microwave was invented. In today’s present society robotics has created an automated vacuum cleaner which is an iRobot called Roomba. The use of robotics is emerging throughout society and is intended to make industrial solutions such as robots used for working and construction in the future
To begin with, the idea of robotics becoming a trending topic in the past 20 years has allowed scientists and engineers to invent endless possible tasks for robots to have the ability to perform. Robots are just about capable of doing
The term “robot” was first created by Josef Capek. It was used by his brother Karel Capek in his play Rossum’s Universal Robots. The word literally means “work” in Czech. The science fiction author Isaac Asimov was the first person to use the word “robotics” in his short story "Liar!"
A robot may be characterized as a self-controlled gadget comprising of electronic, electrical, or mechanical units. All the more by and large, it is a machine that capacities set up of a living operator. Robots are particularly attractive for certain work capacities on the grounds that, dissimilar to people, they never get tired; they can continue physical conditions that are uncomfortable or even risky; they can work in airless conditions; they don't get exhausted by redundancy; and they can't be occupied from the errand within reach.
Robotics is the science that makes the Robot as agent to move around, react to their environment in pursuit of our goals. Any electronic system that uses a computer chip, but that is not a general-purpose workstation, desktop or laptop computer is called an embedded system. Such systems use microcontrollers or microprocessors.
During 1st century AD, Heron of Alexandria described other machines that would later be the beginnings of modern robotics. He designed robotic clocks, kitchen appliances and coin-operated machines. Other early robot mechanisms were built simply for entertainment. Early engineers created delightful moving mechanical puppets, musicians, and dancers.
