At the beginning of the challenge we found that brainstorming created task conflict as all of my group members, including myself, were stuck as to what type of campaign we wanted to develop. We were able to work around this conflict by putting ideas of campaigns on paper by overcoming the mental block that kept all of us in the group from continuing with the campaign we wanted to select. This conflict of developing a unique campaign was then solved when Jesus brought up the idea of creating a campaign that would raise awareness for creating a green ocean ecosystem that consisted of removing debris from both inside and around the ocean. We all thought this was a great idea, so we decided to proceed with the campaign.
After having chosen that our campaign would be on raising awareness on creating a clean ocean ecosystem, the process conflict that our group faced was on how we would compose our detailed plan. Our group debated on whether to reference a YouTube video clip, a power point presentation, a skit, or advertisement. Together we had the opportunity to overcome this process conflict, as described in our textbook as a disagreement about how and not what should be done in order to accomplish our task (Beebe, 2015, p. 113), by deciding on the method of presenting our campaign with images of how our campaign would be implemented. Although initially we wanted to reference a YouTube video clip to show how the ocean is being affected due to debris and trash dumped in the ocean
Stopping the degradation of the planet´s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony and peace with nature, it is the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) fundamental mission. In order to accomplish this difficult task, effective persuasion methods have to be used. The WWF has to make humans feel empathy and responsibility for their planet´s health in order to be successful. A website addressing all the problems along with statistics is an exceptional way to achieve it. The Polar Bears section of the WWF´s website will be analyzed with the intention of demonstrating the audience how the author uses the rhetorical elements of pathos, logos, and ethos.
Ocean pollution has been a huge tragedy to our marine habitats and life. Ocean pollution is a problem because it can be stopped and it was caused mostly by human actions. It’s definitely important to protect our oceans because our oceans have been a huge resource for living, and it has became a problem because of us so we can fix it. We can stop ocean pollution by reducing the frequency of oil spills, minimizing plastic waste, and reinforcing laws about littering.
The main thesis of Mission Blue is to raise awareness of the importance of saving the ocean, and it is based around acclaimed oceanographer Sylvia Earle. It is a great documentary because it uses 4 techniques to reinforce the theme of environmental awareness. The first method is through code, where they use technical codes and symbolic codes. The second approach that makes this documentary great is their creative use of conventions. In addition to this part of expressing a message we have great use of methods of persuasion, which includes the trio of Logos, Pathos and Ethos. Lastly to tie everything together, the documentary provides a great path to understand and appreciate the methods of development.
The beginning of the assignment started off bad but ended on a positive note. As the deadline drew closer, the group members were forced to find a common ground in regards to the specific time the group discussions would be conducted. To address the lack of communication, Marcelo, one of the group members, laid out the goal we needed to complete. After this was done the project fell into place and was competed on
As you are aware, there are millions of people all over the world that do not care about our planet. They live day-to-day with the ignorance about the world, assuming, the earth is indestructible, despite the warning signs of global warming. The Ocean covers 71 percent of Earth. Keeping it clean is a responsibility that all humanity must participate in. Keeping the ocean pollution to a minimum is essential to our living status and we should be more educated on the issue. Having pollution in the water severely affects the way we live.
F- On December 13, during seventh hour in my communications class on a Tuesday seven of us, Me (Sunmi), Morgan, Brandi, Maya, Rachael, Caralee, and Laine gathered in order to have a fishbowl discussion about the mistreatment and exploitation of marine animals. The primary purpose of this discussion according to our teacher, Mr. Wolfe was for us to select a committee type, create a problem, and then hold a discussion where we attempt to solve the problem in 30 minutes. The aquatic life representations, create a problem- marine animals are being exploited, hold a discussion that and create a resolution in 30 minutes. The second purpose of this activity was to help us become aware of the roles we as individuals play
This essay will evaluate the Water Brothers documentary “Plastic Ocean” and how well their findings and the information in the clip, contribute to scientific research. While the Water Brothers did manage to cover a few key issues, being constricted to a twenty-two-minute time frame left the Water Brothers with very little room to address other important information. I believe that if more time had been given to the Water Brothers, they would have done a better job of informing the public of what’s really at stake. If for instances another twenty-two minutes was given, I believe that the Water Brothers would have had a better opportunity to go into detail on key issues. For this paper, I will introduce what the documentary did manage to showcase
Specific purpose statement: To persuade my audience to take action in order to conserve one of the most finite and precious resources we have in the U.S.
Overall, my strategy will focus on appealing to logos. By using numerous statistics and data to reinforce the reality of our earth’s state to the audience. Presenting reason paired with a well-structured argument will hopefully make the audience gain a new perspective about environmental sustainability. Focusing on logos to argue my purpose helps the audience understand the situation and lead them to better actions. I will also appeal to pathos and ethos to support my main strategy. The facts will create credibility and by appealing to the audience’s emotions will help stress the importance of the issue and help gain the attention of the audience.
Growing up, I have always heard the adults around me talking about the laws and policies to save the Earth, and the controversies that came from them. At the time, those conversations were way over my head, but now they fuel my current ideas about the Earth and its oceans. While in Key Largo, I hope to learn how the many scientists involved in the upkeep of the world use their skills to help our oceans, so that I can create an earth-friendly lifestyle for myself and others. The poor state of our Earth and its oceans is a problem caused by every country, business, and person, and unless every person helps, it will continue to be an ever-present problem. After all, we only have one Earth. If we destroy it, we won’t receive another one.
Past media coverage of Sea World has been largely marine mammal topics based, with little substantial discussion around animal conservation or Sea World information. Although the media port of Sea World provides several marine animal contents, it leads to the media relations problem: Sea World 's media releases tend to using marketing strategies that have resulted in an increasing lack of credibility in marine mammal conservation. This does not align with Sea World goals of youth education and strengthened public awareness.
Wartella and Stout discuss the growth in interest in recent years in promoting healthy behavior through persuasive media campaigns. One such campaign that I am especially passionate about is recycling and keeping plastic out of the oceans. Did you know that every single year, 8 million metric tons of plastic goes into the ocean? Take note I said plastic, not waste, or any other forms of trash are included in this amount! This has been an issue for major concern and yet only in recent years has it begun to gain more traction and attention from society. Due to its growing popularity there are numerous print and video campaigns I would love to show you guys however I settled for two of my favorites portrayed below.
From the opening lines of the movie, the activists in the documentary made clear, this movie would abandon the traditional tactic of “making a sufficiently depressing film.” The activists now believe there are individuals at different stages in their environmental advocacy. Knowing people are along different stages in their environmental advocacy, a one size fits all framing tactics will be insufficient to promote further environmental change.
The ocean is being polluted and it is opposing a massacre in the environment and the lives of marine and green turtles. It affects the ocean’s ecosystem by killing it. These turtles are revealed to have a list of chemicals in their bloodstream. Studies and research have demonstrated that these turtles are endangered species especially the Green turtles and this is caused by human activity and contamination. They have been found in the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and Upstart Bay. There are a few people attempting to help the shoreline and reefs, but with the effort of helping, it wasn’t sufficient.
In the article “Ocean of pollution,” the author, Dahr Jamail, makes a strong case for that fact that human activities drive oceans pollution in a terrible situation. He begins by briefly outlining how quickly plastic pollution in the oceans has increased in only few decades along with human behaviour. Dahr then continues on to describe the doubling “dead zones” appears unnaturally have impacts on sea life, even the food chain. The article concludes by stating the solution for the oceans pollution. Clearly, the audiences he spoken to are the North American public since it was originally published in the widely circulated Al Jazeera Magazine, but it also intended for the environmental organizations and governments (lots data from American government departments and list solution for EPA). In fact, for the most part with Dahr use of examples and pictures strengthens his logos. Also, he integrates pathos excellently due to appropriate images and tone. He utilizes Ethos well, for knowledgeable about the environment issues.
