AA Creative Project
I will say that research/discussion/readings have informed my project in several ways.
First I will start off with research. Tristan and I decided to do a video with our voices voiced over it with pictures/videos playing. In order to do that we decided to get creative with it and do some “research” at different black places around LA. The first place that we visited was Leimert park. Leimert Park has become the center of African-American art, music, and culture in Los Angeles. Tristan also works at the California African American museum so she added some insight to the project from that. We also took the internet to learn some more about blacks in LA. I would say that most of our research came from internet but also

We took pictures at several locations that express blackness in some way. It was my idea to add music to video and at first I chose the theme song to the Penny Proud show but later changed it the Redbone by Childish Gambino. I was originally going to have it cut off when we started to answer the questions that we listed on the proposal but Tristan said it would be cool to have the music low in the background while we spoke on the questions. In the end, it turned to be a genius idea because it gave blackness to the video. It’s kinda what professor Snorton was talking about how music in tv shows gives off a certain vibe to the audience. Which can be related back to encoding/decoding article which talked the media constructing a message and how the audience interprets that message.
We then decided on how we were going to get our voices in the film. What I was thinking at first was to have the pictures/videos that we took play in the beginning then have it cut off and we would be sitting there talking about the questions on the proposal. It would have been like the video that we watched in class from that girl. I can’t remember her name but it would have been something similar to her class project. We ultimately decided to just do our voices and have pictures/video play while we talk and try to sync our voice with the pictures so they could
I don’t know when the consultant will visit again, and we need more supplies for the office.
The first video I watched was ‘A Conversation About Growing Up Black,’ as this was a video I could share common ground with. I viewed these young Black boys as children who grew up in suburban areas from the
During the course of history, African Americans have played a major role in the enhancement of film and television production. African Americans have enhanced not only the technology of television and film but also enhanced the story line of American Television. As contributors, African Americans have made the kind of changes that affected television and the outside world. These shows were made to relate to the average African American family. However, over the past few years, the so called demographic of “relatable’’ television has been questioned on it’s positive or negative affect society. A controversial question that has been discussed is, “Is social media, television, and film creating positive and relatable messages? Or is it
The film expands on several course objectives. The key objective, (VSU Gen. Ed. Outcome 1,2; AFAM Minor Outcome1) which states to engage students in a personal exploration of African American cultural experiences is extremely relevant to the content of the film. There are many issues within the black community that go unsaid, such as homosexuality. Marlon Riggs, along with the other speakers express their daily challenges and how their sexual orientation caused them to struggle with their identity. In addition, their experiences show that African Americans can come from various backgrounds with several traditions, yet they can still remain connected. The film also shows an appreciation of the historical and cultural origins of African Americans as stated in the objective (VSU Gen. Ed. Outcome 1,2; AFAM Minor Outcome 1). In the video, the speakers talk about how as time progressed blacks began to embrace their heritage. During the sixties, the slogan “Black is Beautiful” emerged. Women started to wear their natural hair and full lips were then recognized as desirable. It was no longer shameful to be black, but instead it was empowering because the diversity of being African American is

“Anything that can help us find out who did this.” I said, examining the crime scene. I walked towards what used to be the glass case that held the crown, but was now a useless, shattered cube.

Again, the dark laughter echoed in her head. Shit, shit, shit. She was so damn stupid, so bloody arrogant. In spite of the sunglasses she wore to lessen the risk of overstimulation to her senses, the lenses were no safeguards against the weighted stares of the people on the bus, and Tung wasn’t here acting as a buffer.
“It most certainly is not,” retorted Phillie. “Freddie is that terrible man from those awful movies made years ago. The man who would attack children in their sleep.”
I now stood in the empty hall. The walls were made of cold cobblestone, lined neatly forming the long hallway to the feeding room. The building, Mrs. Reed’s residence was an old castle created from stone and iron. The hallway was dark only being illuminated by infrequent sconces sitting on the walls two inches below the ceiling. There were no windows as the residents of the castle, being stalkers of the night, had an incredible aversion towards the beating rays of the sun. Before me was the feeding-room door, where the creatures that lived in the castle fed upon their provided pints of blood every evening at midnight. I stopped, intimidated and trembling. What a miserable little poltroon had fear, engendered of unjust punishment, made of
shakes in anger as he hears the girl making fun of him infront of everyone along with the boy. They didn't know what he had endured, his past. The boy didn't pick his name nor did he have parents, for most of his life, he was trapped in a cage being experimented on countless number of times...cold and alone, he tilt his head down trying not to cry as he remembers the name of what he was called by all the scientist, the ones who took everything from him, tormented him, Seven finally released there was no such thing as friends, or being a hero..... why would he help those who never came for him in the first place.
The blaring of my headlights, shadows littered the ground. The light cut through them, disturbing the darkness. The sun had set a while ago, but still I was wandering. My eyes had grown tired, but still I was searching. Clouds, sinister and heavy, were layered above the earth, hiding away the moon and, with it, the stars' light. For a few hours now, I had been driving around. Somewhere along the way, I strayed from my path. Many circles I seem to have made, and I am still stuck on this abandoned dirt road. By now, I should have arrived at my uncle's home. I should have finished greeting all of my family. I should be sitting down with them, drinking and laughing, having a pleasant night. Right now, I realize that I have just passed the same
Black people have played an important role in American history and made great contributions to the development on economy and culture of the U.S. This week watching Kevin Everson’s series short films, I have a deeper understanding of ethnography cinema distinguished from documentary. His film focusing on the subject matter of African American, transfers their ordinary life into a sublimation of nationality. He uses found footage in According To and Something Else to practice its ethnographic interaction between image and audiences.
"Jared and I have been discussing your behavior the past several weeks and I think we've finally come to the conclusion that it's not working when we punish you."
"Beca c'mon, there's no need to be embarrassed. I'm hot. Girls can't resist me, and that I'm your roomate's boyfriend, that puts a bit of a edge if you want me. But I am not going to cheat on Maddy with you Becs."
