This creative writing class was a lot of fun and better than I expected it to be. I did not think that I could actually write poems and short stories, but I did. For this class I would definitely say we had great pacing and we had enough time to do everything that was given to us. The 5,000 word story I would say should maybe go more in the middle so that way it doesn’t feel as stressful being in the end of the year. I would say that the short stories should go first, then the 5,000 word story and then the poems. I would say the poems last because they were a little easier to go through because you explained what needed to be done and how to do them very well. You also gave a lot of examples which helped a lot because without the examples
Throughout the progression of this course I learned countless things concerning my writing. {Simkin, M. G., Crews, J. M., & Groves, M. J. (2012). While it’s there’s a many amounts of things ‘ve learned throughout the course, there are several things I‘ve learned which include the step by step process, including the correct usage of grammar and properly proofreading my work before I turn it in. irst-year composition should be a requirement for all first time college students at Sacramento State. A class such as a first-year composition course will be vital in guiding you throughout college no matter your major choice or career path. The course introduces you to what the process of writing at a college level means and it enhances the necessary skills that are already present in first year college students.
My favorite writing project was in 8th grade. Everyone in my class had to pick one person who has changed the world in one way or another such as Ghandi or Nelson Mandela. I chose John Lennon. Each class period my class would go to the computer lab to do research and type our papers. We were supposed to write our paper in MLA format, we were not allowed to use contractions, and had to make sure that we cited our resources all the way down to the page number. There were 3 drafts we had to turn in starting with the outline of our ideas and organization of the information that we were going to write about. Then there was the rough draft without our sources cited and lastly, the finished copy. It was a lot of work, but I learned so much about John

I grew up in a extremely small town outside of Birmingham, and the high school I went to is not known for its academia. If I recall right, my high school english classes assigned only 1-2 papers a year, so writing 4-5 in a semester was a completely new adventure for me. I learned many things in this course that greatly helped me improve my writing. My writing overall improved in style, flow, and basic fundamental writing thought processes, which is all the areas that are hard to learn. I started to see my style and flow had grown bland and very fact based instead of grabbing the attention of the readers. Now that I understand where my writing needs improvement, I can start focusing on those areas and fixing my papers.
Ever since I was young, English has always been one my least favorite subjects throughout school because I did not enjoying writing. Writing always frustrated me because it seemed so time consuming. But as I grew older I came to the realization that writing papers are not as hard as we set it out to be. If you formulate a method to how you will complete the paper, and follow through with it, it makes the entire process so much easier. For example, for all the students who procrastinate with their assignments until the day before it is due. Think about all the time and effort you have to put fourth to complete an entire paper in one day. Imagine how much less effort it would take to simply start working on the assignment at least four days before the required due date. You would only have to spend an hour or two a day to complete the entire essay. All you have to do is develop a plan as to what you want to accomplish each day and a writing strategy to following while writing. Throughout my English courses I have assembled my own writing strategies, and the first step to writing a good essay is pre-writing.
When this semester first started I did not enjoy writing, the process, the grading, and just writing itself. I did not consider myself a good writer, but I knew that I was decent. Most of my papers were decent and I received average and above average grades on them. Even though I received good grades I still did not find myself a good writer. When entering this class, WRTG 120, I was afraid that it would be my hardest class and that I would have a hard time. In other words I was scared, and hearing the writing outcomes for this course did not help. I have heard of most of the outcomes but being able to write using them in writing I knew was going to be hard. In this paper I am going to talk about how I used the five out comes
Coming into the 3D program, I was none too excited about taking any general studies classes, including freshman composition. English class has always been the one class I have always had a disdain for. In high school, English was all about reading literature and being told to write several pages on a topic seemingly unrelated without any direction to guide us. Upon coming to Freshman Composition, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the class was nothing like those classes. I feel as if I have learned many things and developed greatly as a writer throughout these last months shown in this portfolio. The main improvements of mine consist of my ability to manage time, my ability to structure paragraphs, and my ability to improve my papers through my own writing process.
Each small scenarios that happen in our live can have either a major or minor impact on them. For me, it had a major impact. The way I go about writing now is more clear. I put more thought into my thinking process first. Before I decide what I want to write about I make a list. The top part of my list are the things that are either important to me or just easy to talk about, as long as it stands true to the topic or prompt. This is important because beforehand I just picked something and wrote the bare minimum I needed to have to get an A or B in high school ,which is not very hard with certain teachers. From changing this one step my whole writing process became easier. This scenario, did start off very damaging. My attitude towards
As a high school student taking on a college course, I acknowledged and accepted the challenge that lay ahead of me. The main reason I selected Composition I and II was that it allowed me to vastly improve my overall writing skills. Developing my techniques will benefit me when I am required to compose any writing assignments for my future college classes. Therefore, with that goal in mind, I chose to take this class while still attending high school. I began this class as an average writer; additionally, I did not know the majority of the writing rules or how to make an essay meet its potential. Over the course of these two classes, I believe that I have proven my writing to be more seamless and interesting to read.
On January 14th I was able to learn about three of my classmates in my composition II class. The three classmates I learned about are Djordje, Natalie, and Angelica. We learned about each other’s hobbies, achievements, and goals.
Throughout middle school my classes were all the same, I showed up, learned, received my assignments, and left. There was one class that was different; it was my Language Arts class. The teacher’s name was Mrs. Lorentsen and she was not the average teacher. For example, in her class we rarely had lectures and I can remember vividly my adventures with her. We completed assignments that were called Independent Study Projects (ISPs), Common Place Books (CPBs), and completed 3D book reports. These are all different ways of presenting information through creativity and problem solving. These foreign type assignments seemed strange at first, as they are different from a traditional classroom setting. I quickly adjusted to her classroom, and learned that I enjoyed this style of learning. Throughout the class Mrs. Lorentsen and I both noticed a commonality in my writing. Putting my thoughts and opinions on paper became a struggle for me.
I learned a very broad variety of English skills in my English 101 class. From the time of doing research before writing an essay, I wrote from the reader’s perspective, considering first what the reader would be benefited from hearing. I discovered methods of writing so that the reader would be able to easily follow my ideas and see connection between them. Along with that, I learned to actively read what others have to say, alter my writing based off of them, and courageously participate in the academic conversation. During this English 101 class, I acquired necessary English skills to participate in the academic conversation.
This is the first time I ever went to the writing studio. My seminar class was on one of my favorite subject ever: Political science fiction! It was never hard for me to write about any of the topics my professor gave me. And he never require us to go to the writing studio, so I never had the motivation to go. But now after the peer review we did in class, I found it beyond helpful, so I decided to go and see if the writing studio students are as helpful as everyone says. I was so nerves at first! Thinking that whoever I get will think my writing is stupid. I had to force myself to go and deal with what they will say about my writing, because I know it was for my own good. I set up my meeting at 3 pm with Sam Hearn. I went there thinking I
Writing on the college level can be difficult and it require focus organization and discipline. Before starting out a student needs to have a clear focus on their chosen topic. One should never be too, always be specific. College writing assignments requires students to support their points with evidence. To most effectively present an idea it is important that its support be organized adequately. While many students tend to rattle off their evidence at the start. A topic should be introduced first and a claim should be made to the reader. That claim is then supported with specific evidence. Students should be mindful not to let evidence speak for itself it is important to explain everything to the reader. This is how a college writing assignment
