Her breath rushed out in ragged gasps as she searched for a place to hide on the giant ship. She couldn’t go back there, not again. Going back meant that they had won, and she couldn’t let that happen, even if she had to change her name and move to a new state. She hurried through the shadows of the ship as quietly as she could, all the while listening for any evidence that they were chasing her. Having lived with her sailor grandfather, she knew how to walk while the ship was moving, but the rain made the floor slippery, and made it difficult for her to catch her footing. Finally finding a small row boat to hide in, she began to hear numerous footsteps coming from the opposite side of the deck, and she tried to control her breathing so …show more content…
Every rumble of thunder from above made her wish that she had stayed in the rowboat. Each wave tossed her around as if she was a doll, and her lungs were beginning to sting with the pain of inadequate air. She felt like the storm tossed her around for a couple hours, but she wasn’t sure because she didn’t have a watch; however, she thought she could barely see a hint of the rising sun in the east, which meant that she had only been in the water for a good hour while the storm raged around her. The storm finally subsided enough for her to stop struggling and float with the current, but she had very little energy left to actually try to get to any land. She relaxed her body, and as the current carried her, went in and out of consciousness, finally blacking out just before she washed ashore a densely overgrown …show more content…
She started walking towards the sound, and thought that she was imagining things because she could see two very ugly little creatures that were about a foot tall running around in the brush on stubby legs. She continued to inspect the little creatures until one of them saw her watching, and ran over to her to grab her hand. It pulled her over to the other one, and she noticed that both of them had big round bellies, tiny brown backs covered in hair, and the kindest green eyes she had ever seen. These two creatures kept making the clicking noise, and as they did this, she realized that they were actually speaking to one another in a language she had never heard before. As she stood and listened, the creature that had pulled her over started making the clicking sound towards her, and she had to shake her head to signal that she could not understand
In the consuming darkness her body began to float upwards. Her mouth was open, letting in small discreet amounts of air, trying to buy as much time as she could before she ran out. Her fragile body was suspended in an awkward posture with her torso jutted forward and her limbs moving like a clockwork doll. Amongst the relentless whipping of the undulating waves she could hear her sister’s scream. She felt herself rise upwards as she continued to flail. She had to survive. She had to somehow reach the surface of the water and survive. She didn’t want to die. Not now. She was running out of air, no longer able to fight the urge to breathe. She looked up to see the sunlight, but she saw none. Then it dawned on her. She wouldn’t make it. She let
I comfortably drive my car into the desolate street, Perusing the deserted buildings, Smashes windows and rusted For Sale signs. The car locked up like Fort Knox. I observe the street for trouble. Two young boys look at me from afar as if I'm an alien. Do I stand out that much same greasy hair, expensive clothes, a smart car I suppose I am out of my comfort zone? “Mister, you don’t belong here” his hand gripped his switch. “Pony.... Ponyboy Curtis” I stammer “I live here or at least I did, I'm here to see two-bit’ The Boys turn around “geez his old now” the boy's chirp. The boys stroll away in awe that they saw the great Ponyboy.
“After defeating the Cyclops Polyphemus, my men grew exhausted. They grew thirsty from rowing under the beating hot sun. Sweat dripped down their heads and the ship’s deck grew moist from the mix of the salty, seawater and sweat. We stopped by on a nearby island.
This passage is an extract from Joseph O’ Connor’s Star of the sea which was penned in the year 2002. The passage makes use of a third person narrative view point as a result of which the readers are provided with a vivid image of passengers aboard a stormy sea ship. The passage talks about a ship afloat a stormy sea and how the passengers on the deck are caught unaware due to this storm. The author uses a descriptive style of writing with short crisp sentences that heighten the pace of the story. In the last two paragraphs however, the author uses longer sentences that signal a slower pace and show the readers that the storm has died down for the time being. The author has interspersed the action with 2 dialogues. It is interesting to
"Wake up, partners," the trail boss, James called. I sleepily looked up , shivered, and saw I was the only one not up. "Here," James said, giving me the horses' bridles and saddles. "Take these and get the horses ready. We have a long day today." I groaned in reply and set up the horses for the day's long drag. I was the horse wrangler and this was my everyday job but I still couldn't get use to the idea of waking up before the sun and working. We drove the cattle into open plains against the winter's cold wrath.
Waves crashed into the small hull, her tiny voice being drowned out by the sound of it. Between the lighting flashes, she sees the two adults race along the boat, securing belongings that had come loose. Her brother sits near her, frightened and crying, yet somehow comforting as her tiny hands cling to his fur. The rain whipped around them, blown about by fierce winds, and she covered her head to protect against the stinging droplets. Another crack echoed in her ears, but this one was not accompanied by thunder. Water rushed over her feet as the hull bent into strange new shapes around her. Another crash of lightning revealed nothing but the now illuminated night sky, roiling with the dark clouds of the storm. Then the cold overwhelmed her, the current dragging her away from her sibling and under the water. Spinning recklessly, she flailed in the depths until the darkness set in, mercifully quieting
On this day in time it seems as though a shadow appeared over the land. With its eyes as piercing as a lion’s and its claws as sharp as a shark’s tooth, this monstrous beast soared through the air as though it was the king overlooking his land. This creature had many names throughout the entire kingdom, some say he was a monster who hid under your bed at night, some say he was a ghost that will appear and scare the living daylight out of someone. But this creature is formally known as the beast.
A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. She grew daring and reckless, overestimating her strength. She wanted to swim far out, where no woman had swum before.
But I only give ya ten minutes. Anymore and I calls the cops. Take the first turnstile, on your right” He pointed to the turnstiles that lead up into the platforms.
As she swam she seemed to be reaching out for the unlimited in which to lose herself. Once she turned and looked toward the shore, toward the people she had left there. She had not gone any great distance - that is, what would have been a great distance for an experienced swimmer. But to her unaccustomed vision the stretch of water behind her assumed the aspect of a barrier which her unaided strength would never be able to overcome” (Page 57).
“I’m Randy Kim, I was a police officer before everything went to shit. Most of these guys are prior law enforcement. Look we’re only trying to protect our own.”
I will be done with my finals this Monday and then will start preparing to get back to Hawaii. I am all for going to the Kombucha bar as I haven't had kombucha since I left Hawaii. 1 or 2pm on Friday sounds good. I am not sure if I will have a vehicle though to pick you up if it starts raining but we will figure out something. I left my Mercedes with Mieko but she had a really bad luck with that car I don't know why. It started breaking down and she also had a small accident. She wasn't hurt because the front end collision prompted the safely air-bag to release, but the vehicle was a total loss. I am glad she wasn't hurt and now she has bought a used vehicle which is being fixed for some minor problems. Hopefully by the time I get back we will have a car to tool in around.
In the early light of the conquest, her mind was racing. Knowing that she could swim in thirty-three degree water as a test made her more anxious and “afraid” (Cox 130). Cox could not retrogress and go back home, she had to encounter the face-numbing water and defeat the treacherous mile. She fought against the problems she may face and readied herself for the awesome outcome that would be after the pain. There is always a rainbow after rain right? Once she got ready and hopped in her mind went from zero to one hundred real quick. The signals inside Cox’s brain were sending off shocks telling her that there was not enough air entering the lungs and nothing could be done to calm it. In the predicament she was in it is normal to think it out but when your body feels “like I had a corset tightening around my chest” it is hard to chill out (Cox 133). Her mind was firing signals telling her to jump out but she was determined to finish what she had came so far to do. Cox’s mind was nostalgic most of the swim, but once she made the body and the mind come together and work as one she made the mile plus
Once upon a time, Once upon a time, a time not so long ago, in the far away land of Alganblah, a majestic palace loomed over the village, with its high torrents and massive stain glass windows. However, let us not get too caught up in the beauty of the outside, for our story actually begins on the inside of the palace's walls.
The Asylum “You won't go in.” , He Dared. “Yeah I will.” I said more braver than I meant. “Then open the door.”
