Before the outbreak, a perfumed scent wafted tenderly throughout the pleasant corridors of the hospital. Nurses and doctors were unhurried, moving back and forth with poised efficiency, admiring the flowers and beautiful framed artwork that once decorated the walls. It didn’t take long though; one by one, stretcher after stretcher, men’s bodies came rolling in, filling the halls, and suppressing the sterile scents with the putrid smells of rotting flesh. Men were missing limbs, some trembled helplessly whilst others simply lay frozen in horror. Many never lasted more than a few hours as the white-capped nurses rushed helplessly to their aid, battling the impossible circumstances in the search of inexistent supplies. Doctors, morose in their …show more content…
Richard jerked upright almost instantly, his eyes flicking obsessively, checking every window and door. Left without any attention, it was a while before he could compose himself. He was glad for the curtains; they meant he didn’t have to be sympathetic, something he no longer knew. His mind was as robotized as it was possible to be human; it was an emotionless machine fixated on nothing but obeying orders and staying alive. His body convulsed at every second, his brain clicking at every sound, resurrecting the same memory he had tried so hard to …show more content…
They raced down the hillside in one great wave, beneath the angry sky. A sea of silver weaponry gleamed in the growing darkness as both sides charged with a mighty cry, dodging side to side and swivelling in and out from each others arms. The crack of rifles echoed through the valley, bullets appearing on one side with a flash to strike the other with vengeance. The thunder roared louder than ever and a streak of lightning lit up the sky in a fiery crack of hell, sending shock waves into the Earth. Soldiers fell to the ground as the heavens burned with fury against them. Richard was one of them. In minutes, the once green fields became red with the blood of the soldiers as the ground soaked in its mighty revenge and the air, heavy with the smell of burning flesh and gunfire smoke, hung in a haze that blocked the life giving warmth of the
One day, cutting through the swamp, David comes across the remains of old Indian souls and discovers a skull with jewelry still buried on the bodies. As David kicks at the skull, he hears a voice and looks up to see a black man seated on a stump just looking. The man, wearing a black sash around his body, has a soot-stained face, which makes it appear as if he works in some fiery place. David soon recognizes the stranger as the devil, the black man. Twenty years later we had a family reunion with all my relatives and they started talking about the fire.
The drive home was difficult; his vision swam and his muscles felt stiff and achy. Too bright city lights glared at him, pierced his eyes. His head throbbed, beat, beat, beat, in rhythm with his racing heart. Nausea rocked in his stomach and every noise seemed amplified. Why were these damn people driving so slowly? He needed to get home; he was already late as it was, and his father wouldn't be pleased. Leaving the glowing city behind him, Aiden found slight relief in the peaceful country roads and sharp peppermint smelling pines that surrounded his home, if you could call it that.
"Wake up, partners," the trail boss, James called. I sleepily looked up , shivered, and saw I was the only one not up. "Here," James said, giving me the horses' bridles and saddles. "Take these and get the horses ready. We have a long day today." I groaned in reply and set up the horses for the day's long drag. I was the horse wrangler and this was my everyday job but I still couldn't get use to the idea of waking up before the sun and working. We drove the cattle into open plains against the winter's cold wrath.
We got out of the car and the second I shut the door out came the Lopez family. She said to me “Theres no way in this entire world that I could do to repay you for raising this money to keep my family safe in a home that has secure walls and a door with a lock on it.” “Here i find myself thinking that if anyones life is going to be changed, its mine, and I'm so grateful for this opportunity” I replied. As the day goes on children from all over the community are coming over to the house begging us to play soccer with them, braid there hair, and take pictures with them. My heart was filled with so much joy Putting so much hard work into something and being able to say that not only did your hard work pay off for yourself, but it paid off for
It is three years into the war, WWII, and Oscar is turning seven tomorrow. Although the sun is creeping under the horizon, Oscar is still as energetic as a rabbit!Because his parents were getting rations along with Oscars sister Elle, Oscar is staying home alone.
“Anything that can help us find out who did this.” I said, examining the crime scene. I walked towards what used to be the glass case that held the crown, but was now a useless, shattered cube.
"Dom would be so proud of you, Lottie," Frankie said as Charlie took her seat, leaning against the platinum blonde male, her head on his shoulder lightly. Energy, adrenaline, emotion all swam through her veins like liquid fire, leaving her shaken. Add in thinking she'd seen Eric - a thought confirmed mere moments later - and she was left shaken. Would he ask her at work? Would he ask after her brother and learn why she was so committed to their cause? Would he ask and care? Would he care at all. Charlie nodded and looked up at Frankie, smiling softly, "Maybe, but it's hard to be proud when you're not here."
This time the store owner had called the police. Roxy had shoplifted from his establishment before but I had always been able to fix it; most times by paying double the price. Peering through the faceted glass of my front door, I could see Mr. Pachenko pacing the brick-edged sidewalk, his face pale with anger. With his blood pressure, the bright red spots on his cheeks would be with him for the rest of the night.
As the winds wisp through the willowy woods on one warm November nighttime, our worrisome subject eyes a wooden orifice far into the night. The crunch of leaves and pinestraw accompany his stroll through the midnight Mississippi forest. Spanish moss waves through the wind as Deacon, or as he is affectionately known by his friends as Deac, moves ever so closer to this new object. It is the source of his visit to this mundane backwood land that appears otherworldly to Deac. A cabin in the woods is where Deacon is making his trek to, to visit his girlfriend’s family. “They could’ve told me that I couldn’t drive to the cabin,” Deacon mumbled to himself as he battles the brisk, hard blast of the breeze in the barren woodland. Deacon reaches the door of the
“AAH, I must have overslept!” The Hero rushed towards the window, and he saw that Monster Zero must have been busy for at least a few hours. He gathered all his weapons, and ran towards Monster Zero, somewhere where he could not be seen. “Alright, all monsters have a weak point, so where could it be……..aha! Monster Zero’s neck isn’t covered by any scales, so I must attack there!”
“It most certainly is not,” retorted Phillie. “Freddie is that terrible man from those awful movies made years ago. The man who would attack children in their sleep.”

shakes in anger as he hears the girl making fun of him infront of everyone along with the boy. They didn't know what he had endured, his past. The boy didn't pick his name nor did he have parents, for most of his life, he was trapped in a cage being experimented on countless number of times...cold and alone, he tilt his head down trying not to cry as he remembers the name of what he was called by all the scientist, the ones who took everything from him, tormented him, Seven finally released there was no such thing as friends, or being a hero..... why would he help those who never came for him in the first place.
The blaring of my headlights, shadows littered the ground. The light cut through them, disturbing the darkness. The sun had set a while ago, but still I was wandering. My eyes had grown tired, but still I was searching. Clouds, sinister and heavy, were layered above the earth, hiding away the moon and, with it, the stars' light. For a few hours now, I had been driving around. Somewhere along the way, I strayed from my path. Many circles I seem to have made, and I am still stuck on this abandoned dirt road. By now, I should have arrived at my uncle's home. I should have finished greeting all of my family. I should be sitting down with them, drinking and laughing, having a pleasant night. Right now, I realize that I have just passed the same
I hail from a fairly modest household. And yet, there I was, concept of clothes entirely forgotten, thundering down the crumbling cement stairs of my aunt’s house, ten years ago. My dashing escapade came to a screeching halt when I nearly collided into my cousin’s best friend. The pitter patter of my feet on the burning asphalt stopped, and everything around us slowed down. A fly buzzed softly as both our eyes bugged out in sheer horror of Forbidden Knowledge. The impending fall of the drop of ice cream from the cone he was clutching measured time agonizingly. The instant it hit the floor, I took off in the opposite direction. I had originally been fleeing the terrifyingly large, 2 inch long lizard that was lazily eyeballing me in the shower,
