Creativity and innovation are the driving forces of organizational success (Nadler & Tushman 1997). To achieve constant innovation & creativity, leaders must actively implement strategies and establish an environment that encourages it (Nadler & Tushman 1997). Hence, leadership is known as the catalyst and source of organizational creativity and innovation (Nadler & Tushman 1997). Innovation and creativity also depend on the leader’s ability to manage diversity in the organization as well as to develop an effective leadership structure that sustains innovation processes (Nadler & Tushman 1997).
The techniques organizations have used in the past no longer seem adequate for effectiveness and success in the modern-day organizational environment (Jamali, Khoury & Sahyoun 2006). In many sectors today, work processes are changing at a much quicker pace as organizations face the challenges of rapidly changing technology, globalization, irregularity, unpredictability, and turbulence (Jamali, Khoury & Sahyoun 2006). Due to the uncertain environment in these sectors, such organizations are failing and need creativity and innovation to remain competitive and successful (Jamali, Khoury & Sahyoun 2006). This means that they must recognize the creativity and leadership that exists in the organization to manage its innovation processes (Jamali, Khoury & Sahyoun 2006).
