Born in 2002, Crocs shoe was initially intended as footwear for boating, the product was originally produced in Canada in clog-form (Hatfield, n.d.).The company created what it calls an Rx line of models specifically with healthy feet in mind: Croc Relief, Croc Cloud, and Croc Silver Cloud. Crocs, Inc. launched a footwear revolution with the debut of its original clog style, the Beach, in 2002. (Crocks History, n.d.)
Designed as a superior gripping boat shoe, the Beach soon gained a legion of followers who wore Crocs shoes at work, at play and even in Hollywood. Movie stars including Al Pacino, Kate Winslet, Jack Nicholson, P Diddy, Whoopi Goldberg, Helen Hunt and Matt Damon have been spotted wearing Crocs shoes. Why the name Crocs? Comfort is a soft gushy shoe that makes your arches collapse. “Crocs are popular because they're inexpensive and interchangeable”, said Arnold Ravick, a doctor of podiatric medicine in Washington, D.C., and a spokesman for the American Podiatric Medical Association. For people with certain problems, they can be a good shoe. However, the question is, are they good for your foot, in general? According to Dr. Arnold Ravick, the answer is: “No!” (O'Rourke, 2007)
Moreover, Crocs use ownership material called “Cros-lite”, a molded plastic resin to create a clog design that somehow looks like pierced holes and “Cros-lite” also causes feet to smell after a long term of use because it does not absorb water or sweat! (Winthorpe, 2011)
Another point is that the shoe causes pronation of the feet when walking, as they are way too spongy. This is evident by the uneven tread wear over time; because of their spongy characteristic they do not stabilize the knee or ankle causing long term chronic damage.
