Composers utilize various techniques to create distinctively visual texts which enable the responders to clearly imagine, form meaning and understand a composer 's unique perspective. In the wuxia film, ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,’ (Crouching Tiger..) (2000) composed by Ang Lee distinctively visuals are presented though the ravishing romance and martial arts miracles which sweep the audience into adventures beyond imagining. The photograph of Ibtihaj Muhammad in the Time Magazine (2016) by Keith Ellison also enables the audience to gain a greater appreciation of the composer 's use of visual elements to offer a multitude of viewpoints on society. Her placid facial expression, pastel costuming and low angle shot illustrates her individual freedom as well as her freedom from worldly desires. She is seen to leap from the mysterious Wudang Mountains and disappear into the clouds, symbolic of her tranquil mindset when taking a ‘leap of faith.’ It is a choice which resonates with the Daoist philosophy of absolute non attachment and a pure moral action.
The non-diegetic music in the scene of Jen taking a leap of faith sets a dreamy mood, suggesting Jen has followed her dreams by ‘flying’ free from societal expectations and a male dominated country. This enables the audience to feel a sense of hope for Jen in seeking her wish of being together with Lo in the future.
RELATED: Photograph, the eagerness in Muhammad’s facial expression emphasises her will to develop further skills and gain power which she could express to the world.
This is shown through Body gesture - on knee ready to fight with the composition of the sword in the middle of the foreground, creating it the focus image, enabling the audience to interpret Muhammad’s search for freedom and power as one which acts as a catalyst for equality amongst society which is crucial in order to diminish the struggles women face, due to limited perceptions and worldviews.

In the image, it demonstrates the theme by showing a man who is working and a women cooking, cleaning and caring for the children. Historically, it was the man’s job to work and provide for the family, while it was the woman's job to cook, clean and care for the children. A lot has changed since that was the norm and today it is a lot different, in some cases flip flopped. However, as expressed in the book, it is not that way in Iran. Throughout the book, women are treated as if they are beneath men. On page 6, Marjane is telling the prophets, in a dream, that she is the next prophet and they are scoffing at her because she is a women. Two pages later she tells her class she wants to be a prophet and everyone laughs at her because she is a women (8 Satrapi). Throughout the book women are treated terribly, they are called horrible names. On page 74, she describes something that happened to her mother, she refused to wear the veil and when her car broke down, she was thrown against the wall and treated horribly by two fundamentalist men (Satrapi). Those men were not arrested and women were then forced to wear the veil (74 Satrapi). The graphic images attached to the situation with her mother really show the true nature of gender roles in Iranian culture.
The Silence of the lambs (1991) is in doubt a film which demonstrates a well-constructed horror film. The film, ranging with scenes, shots, and frames that were well constructed to be identified as horrific. The films cinematography shifts the films narrative and impacts the film, especially the film’s frames. It seems reasonable to suppose that from the film’s frames and of those of the characters expressions, they shape the film’s genre to be horrifying, psychological, and thrilling and they guide viewers towards where the film’s narrative will lead to. Therefore, even a single or series of frames in the film such as Hannibal Lecter’s evil smile, Buffalo Bill opening the door, Hannibal Lecter standing in his cell, and the dialogue between Agent Starling and Hannibal Lecter, act collectively to represent and symbolize claims about the film.
In the exposition we meet our protagonist who is a young women of Islam who wears the traditional veil that muslim women are advised to wear under the law of the Quran were it says, “And tell the believing women to reduce some of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which necessarily
One of these incidents occurs when Marjane is in art school. When the students were told that they needed to wear longer headscarves, Satrapi immediately responded that “as a student of art…I need to move freely to be able to draw.” She further questions “why is it that I, as a woman, am expected to feel nothing when watching these men with their clothes sculpted on but they, as men, can get excited by two-inches less of my head scarf?” here Marjane questions the restrictiveness of the veil and comments on the injustice in Muslim society and the gender inequality. The veil represent the repressions and the gender injustices in Iran. By revolting against the veil Marjane is able to protest the repressions. On hearing Marjanes complaint, the school administrators asked Satrapi to design her own veil. Marjane accepts this offer while still in the confines of the veil. Marjane designs the veil to suit the needs of the students and

Through the use of techniques and themes, a composer is able to create distinctively visual images when describing the setting and characters in detail which help us to understand and form meaning of what the composer is trying to convey in their texts. The use of techniques such as body language, symbolism, lighting, music and photographic background slides create distinctively visual images same with themes that are being used within the texts such as truth which is evident in the dramatic text ‘The Shoe-Horn Sonata’ by John Misto, the song ‘Lose Yourself’ sang by Eminem, and the film ‘The Eye’ directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud featuring Jessica Alba. These three texts demonstrate how the responders are impacted and what is
Through studying and analyzing ‘Maestro’ ,written by Peter Goldsworthy, and by viewing and analyzing the film ‘Edward Scissorhands’ directed by Tim Burton, it is evident that the composers of these texts allow the audience to see distinctive experiences with our eyes as well as with our minds through distinctively visual. The many visual, written and literary techniques have the ability to create a significant and impacting visual.
These Buddhist and Taoist principles mention are the backbone forming Li Mu Bai, but represents the basic antithesis to Jen Yu actions and reactions despite her skills of fighting. Instead of moving in harmony with the flow of chi she rebels against it. In the sequence there is a moment when they are both atop a bamboo stem and Jen Yu is trying hard to unbalance Li Mu Bai, but he looks at her with this pure innocent smile. He seems so calm and in balance with nature, because he and nature are both one. That affirms the Taoist and Buddhist beliefs. While, Jen Yu seems frustrated, unfocused, and unbalance.
The use of distinctively visual images allows an audience to perceive and distinguish the composer’s specific representation. From these distinctive visuals, the audience’s perceptions force them to respond in a particular way. In ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, Ang Lee utilises a range of film techniques to position his audience through a combination of quiet, dramatic scenes and choreographed action sequences. In his painting, ‘Third of May, 1808’ Fransisco Goya conveys meaning exclusively with distinctively visual techniques. Both the composers are able to effectively convey their message and
One of the most controversial topics concerning Muslim women’s rights is the idea of the veil. It is believed by some Muslims that the veil is an Islamic obligation that all Muslim women must adhere to. But nowadays, the veil can have different meanings that are not necessarily religious. In her article “Reinventing the Veil,” Leila Ahmed addresses some of the different meanings that the veil can have. Marjane Satrapi explores one of those meanings in her animated autobiography Persepolis (2008). In Persepolis, Marjane tells the story of her rebellion against the Iranian Islamist regime that takes over Iran, oppresses women, and forces them to wear the veil. What was interesting to me was seeing Marjane wear the veil without being oppressed, although she does not believe in it, and is being forced to wear it. In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi escapes being a subject to the Iranian Islamist ideology by establishing her individual identity through transforming the veil from a means of oppression into a means of feminist rebellion.
So pretend you are a man in jail, yes you committed the crime, but you believed that the proof in front of you was the end. In your eyes what that detective presented to you was the whole “proof in the pudding”, but then you figured out that it was a ruse. You submit the report under the Article 38.23, denied, and then still had to serve long years in jail. At this point you might think to yourself “The system is failed”, but there is light at the end of that tunnel.
The untitled painting by Riley Samels, a young artist in Ohio, truly sends a powerful message relating to the struggles women around the world face. The painting reflects the way women are treated and how they are expected to behave. The painting is headshot of a woman wearing a bright and bold red niqab; a veil worn by muslim women. At first glance, the observer would assume the artist was simply painting a portrait of a muslim woman. However, when looking closely, you realize the artist camouflaged hands as a niqab.
Janet Su Professor Xue October 21 2015 Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon The film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, directed by Ang Lee revolves around ancient chinese martial arts, highlighting 2 specifically skilled women warriors (Jen Yu and Shu Lien) who break out of the traditional social norms set in chinese history. The director of this film really brought out the capability of women leading strong and independent roles, instead of the typical weak, timid, and compliant roles. He compared and contrasted the gender roles set for women back in the day, and used Jen Yu and Shu Lien’s characters to reflect on how women feel trapped in the set social norms.
Chinatown is a drama/thriller starring Jack Nicholson who played the character of Jake Gittes. The plot of the story develops around Gittes job as a private investigator, and Gittes researches the background information of the water system for Los Angeles. Through Gittes investigation, the sudden death of Mr. Mulwray becomes the main plot line of the story. Ms. Mulwray, the wife hires Jake Gittes to investigate her husband for infidelity, but through his inspecting, he starts to uncover the truths within the Los Angeles water system. The characters of the film have a strange connection with each other, which makes the story rich in depth. This is powerful for the viewer because the potential of the plot can be expanded with extraordinary plot twists and character development. Personally, I thought the Roman Polanski constructed a phenomenal movie, because of the drama aspect. The conflict was clear thirty minutes into the film, and the direction of the film perfectly kept the audience glued to the plot of the movie. Chinatown provides effective elements of drama through intensive detail, and a strong plot; which makes the movie highly entertaining.
