The sociological concept to be discussed from Chapter 5 would be “Culture: symbol and practices”. On the one hand culture is studying daily routine and on the other is exploring their values and beliefs. A person wearing a cross or rosary, symbols of Christian religion and similarly a person attending daily mass, service at a local chapel signify his religious practice. “The most privileged persons on earth use their resources to separate from one another, to buy privacy and personal space”. (pg.110). The practice of living alone symbolises the society’s culture of turning a loner, or enjoying one’s freedom. So, these are the institutions of power. The tax policies also give an insight as to the distribution of power in the political country. During elections political parties spend huge amounts; this throws light on how a handful of rich class exercise influence and power on these leaders. Important issues like reduce inequality, reduce unemployment, uplift public health, poverty eradication etc. do not see light as important issues in a growing economy.
In Chapter 15, this sociological concept is brought to light, Education opportunities and the impact of education in the minds of the youth. It is a part of every economic policy to have access to basic schooling for all. Schooling could be through public schools established by the state or even private elite schools. However, common sense tells us there should not be any major difference in the two types of institutions. But, it is not so exactly. Public school classes are brimming with students. The teacher student ratio is very low, so neither do students get personal attention in their weak areas; they are also not able to participate in school activities which is reserved only for the cream students. A right pattern of education forms the base for a healthy education life. These in turn affect a lot of stages in life, grades, careers, moral principles and values towards home, country, and lastly but not the least married life. New technological developments have
