This week's article was on “The Three Types of Custom Rifle Barrels”. In this article it is discussed how custom barrels are made. Most custom rifle makers do not have the resources or equipment to make their own barrels. With the cost of equipment and so few barrels they actually need, which is defiantly not worth cost. With this in mind they rely on the specialist for the production of the barrels. The custom barrels are manufactured by three methods; cut, button and hammer forging. Each method is widely used and does produce quality barrels. The cut method is the oldest method used; it has been around for about 500 years. The cut method simply is cutting groves or rifling in the steel to form the lands and grooves evenly the length of
IntroI am doing this report on the M1 Garand for Mr.Walker 182's History Class. The Garand is a fascinating World War II semi-automatic rifle. In the sub-sections below I will describe the developement history of the gun, the service history, and info on different versions. I wanted to add diagrams of the M1 rifle but the pictures are copyrighted and I was not able to download but the diagrams could be found at <a href="http://www.chestnutridge.com/gchart.asp">http://www.chestnutridge.com/gchart.aspDevelopment HistoryThe origins of the United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 begin around August, 1900, when Captain O.B.
In the article "Gunsmithing Requires Innovation" Paul Mazan has a customer come to him with hopes of fixing his grandpa's old antique shotgun. To be exact, it was a Belgian Damascus-barreled shotgun made by F. Dumoulin. Back in those times the gun manufacturers would sometimes print any name the customer wanted on the firearms. For example, if you owned Frank's Great Hardware, you could have "Franks Firearms" printed on the side of your shotguns. This proved to be all but helpful when finding replacement parts for this antique project.
There are some rules in barrel racing. Number one is the fastest time wins. The rider and horse aren’t judged on anything but that. If the rider and horse run past a barrel and get out of the pattern, they get a “no time” score or they get disqualified. If the racer or her horse knocks a barrel over, they get a five second penalty which normally gives them a time that is to slow to win or place. There is a sixty second time limit to complete the course. The barrels have to be fifty five gallons, they have to be metal, and they have to be at least two colors. Most competitions also require the rider to wear a long sleeve western shirt that is tucked in, western cut pants or jeans, a western hat, and western boots. The contestant has to be dressed like this one hour before the event.
All these hand made weapons had a lot of range and body damage to others; first they tested their handmade objects to see were there any flaws that can be fixed for a better intension to make the weapon
The Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA) is an interest group that represents tens of thousands of members throughout the state of Texas. The TSRA’s objective is to protect the rights of a law abiding citizen to keep and bear arms under the constitution of the state of Texas and under the constitution of the United States. The TSRA uses its influence through it’s members and currency to consistently attain their objective.
A Rifle could shoot a bullet up to 1,000 yards–and were more accurate. However, until the 1850s it was nearly impossible to use these guns in battle because, since a rifle’s bullet had roughly the same diameter as its barrel, they took too long to load. (Soldiers sometimes had to pound the bullet into the barrel with a mallet.)
The history of firearms has changed dramatically since the late 1700’s. A rifle is no longer defined as a single shot, muzzle loading musket. Should
In wars prior to the Civil War, soldiers wielded weapons such as the musket which shot only one bullet at a time. Though these types of weaponry could shoot as far as 250 yards, they were inconvenient and wasted time. To even aim at the target accurately one had to be 80 yards away. Similarly to muskets, rifles were inconvenient because they took a while to reload because the bullet was almost the same size of the barrel and again, wasted time. Bullets with a pointed tip were created in 1848 by Claude Minie. Because the diameter of the bullets were smaller than the barrel, soldiers could put them into the gun quicker and more effectively. With Minie’s bullets, rifles were simpler to reload but still had to be reloaded with one bullet at a time. That unprotected gap of time made soldiers more vulnerable so in 1849 a repeating rifle called the Volitional Repeater was patented by Walter Hunt. They were popularized in 1863 during the Civil War. By this time many models were being sold but the most common one was the Spencer Carbine which could shoot seven bullets in just 30 seconds. These, like most Civil War era weapons, were produced and used by the North, but not
Problems resulted due to soft factory projectiles causing Glock to issue warnings against the use of lead. Many companies today will void a warranty if hand-loads are used and this is not economical for shooters. According to Campbell (2017 Pg-1), the Glock uses a unique form of rifling known as polygonal rifling. According to Nash (2012), in a polygonal barrel, these cut lands and grooves are replaced by “hills and valleys” in a more gently rounded polygonal pattern, usually a hexagon or
Weapons have been around from the Neanderthals of the post-ice age, to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Rocks became knives, sticks became spears, and bayonets became AK-47’s. The technology from the French and Indian War was revolutionized and manufactured by the newly opened weaponry companies. Colt
The most common rifle that was used in the revolutionary war is the smoothbore flintlock musket with a attached bayonet. The rifle was a huge part in the American Revolution because it could hit someone from a long range unlike your fist. The armies used something called a paper cartridge to speed the reloading process and it lower the chance of losing gunpowder. In order to reload the weapon you must use black gunpowder. Most rifle can shoot up to or higher than 75 miles per hour (mph).

Have you ever wondered what a blacksmith and munitions maker at a Sugar Plantation in the 1800s was like? At the Levi Jordan Plantation, an excavation revealed a cabin that indicates a resident that worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin is now called the “Smith’s Cabin”. At the Plantation, western artifacts used in African cultural context have been found during the excavation. Indications from these artifacts show that although these African and African Americans were no longer in their original cultural context, they still maintained some of their African cultural beliefs. The excavation of the Munition Makers’ cabin revealed information about the Munitions Maker, the purpose of the cabin, and showed findings of animal remains.
Muzzleloaders are the weapons that Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone carried afield with them during their bear hunts, Indian fights, and battles. Today there are two basic types of muzzleloaders used for hunting—primitive and in-line. Both are based upon the premise that the shooter pours powder down the end of the gun barrel, and then rams a slug or ball down on top of it to load the gun.
