A reason for watching a movie is usually for entertainment. Life of Pi was entertaining throughout some sections of the movie. In the beginning, the movie began with presenting all kinds of animals. Seeing the animals was interesting. The first scene was in present day. The main character Pi was speaking with a reporter about his life story. The movie had a flashback scene to his early life. It showed what life was like for Pi as a child. For instance, some bullies from school treated Pi unfairly by laughing and making fun of him. Then the film had a flashback to Pi as a teenager. That scene consisted of talking, and did not have much action. Those scenes were slow paced, and presented no action. Soon after that flashback scene, the movie became exciting. There was a lot of action and suspense. Pi told the reporter about the terrible event that happened when he was a teen. For example, the flashback scene presented what happened to Pi and …show more content…
Life of Pi had a great deal of art in it. First the cinema of the film was perfect. The picture quality was fantastic. In the same way, the water was very realistic and blue. While watching the movie, it feels like the water is underneath you. There were many bright colors in the movie that was appealing to the eye. Secondly, every animal looked realistic. For instance, the animals portrayed great detail in the face. The tiger’s face was beautiful, and it had long whiskers that can be viewed from a far distance away. The animal’s fur appeared to be very soft and comfy. The detail on the animals were astonishing. Lastly, the movie had amazing music. Each song played during each scene fit the emotion of what was occurring. For example, in the movie there was a scene where a large whale jumped out of the water near to the boat. The music was slow and suspicious sounding. The music made the viewers feel uneasy and anxious to know what will happen next. Pi did not expect a whale to jump out near him, and he felt uneasy when it took place because the boat rocked. In addition, the music during the ending of the movie matched the last speaking scene. Pi was explaining to the reporter what happened the day he was found on the island, and what happened to the tiger. The music was slow paced and was in a minor key, which made the song sound sad. What Pi was saying made him sad because he was stating that the tiger did not even say
The Life of Pi, an award-winning novel by Yann Martel, tells the story of Pi Patel, a young boy stranded at sea with an adult Bengal tiger. Marooned on a tiny lifeboat adrift in the Pacific Ocean, Pi finds himself struggling to survive. Faced with imminent suffering and death brought on by hunger, thirst, and an unending battle with the elements, Pi must make a decision between upholding his and society’s strict set of morals and values, or letting his survival instincts take over. Through compelling language and imagery, Martel gives Pi’s conflict between morals, fear, and survival a sense of excitement, suspense, and climax.
Irony- Irony was spread throughout the novel of Life of Pi but the greatest example of irony that ties into the theme of this book is that even though Pi was stuck on a boat for seven months with a deadly tiger, the tiger was the reason why he survived. Pi states that Richard Parker was what kept him alive when he lands in Mexico by saying “Then Richard Parker, companion of my torment, awful, fierce thing that kept me alive, moved forward and disappeared forever from my life,” (Martel 285). This example of irony is important to the theme of the story because it seems to have ties with another theme which is religion. For example, during tough times God keeps you alive and when your hardships are over God seems to almost disappear but he still stays in the back of your mind.
Movies have the ability to transport people to different times and places and distract them from ordinary everyday reality. They allow for a range of emotions to be experienced. At their core, movies examine the human condition. There are plenty of deeper truths woven into screenplays and plenty of lessons to be learned, even when an individual is solely seeking entertainment.
Although the best reasons for “going to the movies” are to be entertained and eat popcorn, understanding a film is actually quite complex. Movies are not only a reflection of life, they also have the capability of shaping our norms, values, attitudes, and perception of life. Through the media of film, one can find stories of practically anything imaginable and some things unimaginable. Movie-makers use their art to entertain, to promote political agendas, to educate, and to present life as it is, was, or could be. They can present truth, truth as they interpret it, or simply ignore truth altogether. A movie can be a work of fiction, non-fiction, or anything in-between. A film is an artist’s interpretation. What one takes away from a film depends upon how one interprets what has been seen and heard. Understanding film is indeed difficult.
Survival is an instinct. Often times, in order to survive, people must shed a part of their innocence. For some, it may be subtle, taken in tiny bites along the way, and for others it could be in one traumatizing moment. Ang Lee, director of “The Life of Pi,” explores this theme throughout his film. Lee shows the viewer this loss in the use of imagery, lighting, and color. He takes the viewer on a journey through the eyes of Piscine Patel as his innocence and humanity slowly get chipped away and he is forced to do what is necessary to survive and the lengths he goes to to regain that lost innocence.
1. The main characters in Life of Pi are Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi) and Richard Parker the Bengal tiger. Pi is the protagonist he is hopeful and believes that things get better. He is very optimistic which gets him through a lot of his troubles. In the beginning of the book Pi seemed to have things the rough way and continues that way but he was very hopeful. In the beginning of his lifeboat journey he was sure things would get better but as time went by he wasn't sure anymore but he had things to remind him to keep going. I also think he became more grownup and stronger by the end of the book. Richard Parker is the tiger on the lifeboat with Pi he is there every step of the way with Pi. He helps Pi get through things. Richard Parker is very
First, I believe that much more was going on during the novel. Amongst the reading, there were many other ideas or thoughts behind the true meaning of the novel. I feel that the title, Life of Pi, is in a way very vague and unappealing. I think that in order to catch the attention of an individual you have to have something that will help cling the person into reading the book. Regarding the main idea of the novel I feel that the author could have named the story in a different way. In my opinion, most of the story was about Pi and Richard, and not just Pi. If the author would have hinted to the adventures of the novel in title I believe that more people would consider reading the story. In this time, most people are looking for a book that contains excitement and adventure, which is why I feel the way I feel. By just hinting to the idea of adventure I trust the fact that the novel would have been much more popular and
Life of Pi was a well written novel with an interesting story line. The authors syntax and use of metaphors make the book a great read. Of all the books that we have read this year, Life of Pi sparked the most conversation outside of school on what the book meant, and which story was true. The novel provides two stories. The story that the majority of the book follows has Pi stranded with Richard Parker, a hyena, an orangutan, and a zebra. At the end of the book, Pi provides an alternate story after the men interviewing him state their disbelief of his original story. This second version equates each animal to a human that had been aboard the Tsimtsum. The hyena was the cook aboard the ship, the orangutan was the mother,
When watching a movie sometimes there can be moments that are related to someone's life. One might say "Oh I have had such thing happened to me." Movies and books connect to people through experience that some might have experienced. People understand and enjoy their entertainment when they can relate. Not only does life relate to movies and books, but movies relate to books. There are many movies that focus on ideas of old books or old myths. The movie "Aliens vs. Predators" encounters many parallels with the myth, "Theseus and the Minotaur" because they both tell the same story in different ways.
Campus Ministry, finding a malaria vaccine, and my studies are extremely important to me and they are things I can write books about. However, one of the things the truly defines me is my love for watching movies. Movies have actually taught me more than what I learn in school and in my extracurricular activities. From Forrest Gump, I learned to never live according to a plan, to be open-minded and just take every opportunity thrown at me. From Zootopia, I learned to never give up on my dreams, no matter if society thinks I can get there. From Rain Man, I learned to love people for who they are on the inside and that true love can exist between siblings, not just in romance. In short, movies are my life teachers. Because of that, I watch a movie every other day, and a new one at AMC every week. They teach me how to live life.
To begin with “The life of Pi” is a story on how a boy survived a sunken ship which was caused by a massive storm. After the storm he is placed on a raft with 4 different animals that includes zebra, tiger, orangutan, and hyena. In order to survive he would fish for his food something the Native Americans would do. The Native Americans would let their prisoner John Smith
First of all, Life op Pi is a beautiful and adventurous movie. A boy has to survive on a lifeboat with a tiger and that will lead to scenes that are surprisingly, excitingly and beautifully. Moreover, the acting part in the film is amazing and the animals used in the film are digital creations, however they are very realistic. Finally, what I love most about this film is the unpredictable plot. All the things that happen in the movie are very unpredictable,
Hence, this movie is interesting and an entertainment that you can enjoy watching as it teaches us
From the Life of Pi movie, it can be seen that life must go on although we face any of situation. Pi fight and adapt to the new environment. He was calm resurrected himself even lost his families love. He began self-reliance on the boat with Richard Parker. In that situation, Pi constructs a raft to occupy his time, makes an inventory and trains the tiger Richard parker. Pi find out more things and take it as a challenges in their life. He try to be the best on how situation he was on the boat. In my opinion, the different between Life of Pi movie with another movie is Life of Pi movie draws together many different elements of life, ranging from spiritual to technical elements, particularly as Pi is unable to decide on one religion, following
“Moviemakers have been providing America, and world audiences with entertainments that have both reflected and shaped audience desires for more than a century.” (Maasik pg. 365).
