Dawn VanderZwan is a fourth year criminal justice student in UFV. Through our communication via email, I have learnt some information about her academic goals, workplace experiences and personal life. Dawn graduated from high school in 2009, after that she took a certificate program at Kwantlen right after graduating. After she completed her criminal justice degree at UFV, currently she works as a part-time teacher’s aide in the school district. Dawn’s purpose of taking CMNS 251 is to improve her writing skills, and this is a required course for criminal students as well. In addition, Dawn chooses the online course because she needs to work 2 or 3 days a week, studying online can help her to still have the daytime to work and do most of courses work at night. Nevertheless, she still has some problem of taking this online course, which is that the assignments are due weekly, which means she has essays for every class so she is afraid of the time management. For her academic goals, Dawn now decides to cherish all the materials and contents that each course …show more content…
When she was a teacher’s aide, the main methods of communication that she used are face-to-face and email. Last summer, she worked for the Abbotsford Police Victims Services as a summer student, and the main requirement of the job is to offer a heavy amount of emotional support to other people, what she usually do are calling clients and checking in with people that are physically or emotionally injured. This experience helped Dawn to learn how to communicate gently, emotionally and how to support other people through communication. Although she was not good on the phone at the beginning, she practiced a lot and got better and better over this course. She also learned other forms of communication, such as emailing to the public, police officers or civilians in the police

Unit 001 Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
People communicate for different reasons, to portray their feelings, emotions, pain, opinions, etc. The communication could be professional (formal), or personal (informal). It is important within a social work environment that information is recorded, as it may be called upon for legal reasons. All communications are confidential, and on a “need to know”, basis. Communication between colleagues is essential, so that it ensures a continuity of care for the client, and all staff are aware of the current needs of the client.
A wide range of diversity in the field of criminal justice studies is of great importance. As a second-year graduate student, I was given an opportunity to work closely with U.S Probation and Pretrial Services as an intern. This internship allowed me to further my knowledge in correctional studies and provided the necessary resources to complete my master’s thesis. I was also exposed to various policies and procedures pertaining to probation practices while gaining a vast amount of knowledge assisting with investigations, liaisons between state and local agencies, and the intricacies of offender case management. Furthermore, I was able to form close relationships with employees of the agency who have assisted in my current career endeavors.

There are several of communication techniques used in health and social care settings. Effective communication is essential to provide quality care service to service user.
Communication involves information being sent, received and decoded between two or more people (Balzer-Riley 2008) and involves the use of a number of communication skills; which in a nursing context generally focuses on listening and giving information to patients (Weller 2002). This process of sending and receiving messages has been described as both simple and complex (Rosengren 2000 in McCabe 2006, p.4). It is a process which is continually utilised by nurses to convey and receive information from the patient, co-workers, others they come into contact with and the patient’s family.
As a manager of a large residential service and working with a varied range of groups and individuals, communication is a vital part of how we care and support the people we work with. Communication affects my work setting in many ways, with the service user, their families, friends, social workers, counsellors, support services and medical professionals that we work with. The way that this can be done is in person, body language, telephone calls, text messaging, emails, group work, literature and written correspondence.
Effective communication is a process that creates positive results for the sender and receiver. A sender is the person who is delivering a message or information and a receiver is the person who collects and interprets said message or information (Yoder-Wise, Leading and Managing in Nursing, 2015, p. 322). A nurse leader must be both a sender and receiver to achieve a productive interaction. There are three main types of communication that a nurse leader uses. These techniques include verbal communication, nonverbal communication, and written communication. Verbal communication usually happens in person or over the phone and the message is conveyed using speech. Nonverbal communication involves facial expression, eye contact, tone, and gestures. Nonverbal and verbal communication are
I reached out to Beth Vorro on February 16, to see whether she is going to be getting to this in the next few weeks and asked whether if she is not it should be reassigned and then I called Jim White to let him know what is going on and then we can assign this case to Colby when he arrives. It is a pretty garden variety retaliation case, so he can do the position statement on it.

To summarize, the topic presented in this article is about online courses which are widely used in colleges providing easy access to course materials, classroom discussions, and feedback to instructors. The course materials and activities may be accessed from any computer, whether it is from the University or from the comfort of your own home.
Achieving the goal as a successful nurse is not easy as it requires not only a broad knowledge but also clinical skills (Raya 2006). One of the crucial factors leading to that is learning to create therapeutic relationships between health care professionals and patients through professional communication. This is long-term training since nurses must know how to apply different communication methods to help their patients with kindness and sincerity (Varcarolis 2005). The purpose of this study is to assess knowledge of how diversified communication types are used and their efficiency in building a therapeutic relationship.
Students are required to learn massive amounts of course material. It is mandatory to learn at the instructor’s pace. Online courses give flexibility while scheduling to learn this material. Students are overwhelmed with homework throughout the duration of each class. Some have up to four classes of homework due weekly. It can be difficult for many to absorb all the material while scheduling work and home life. Trying to arrange the balance of each can be tiring for the body and mind. When taking online classes, there is an advantage to have the capability to learn the subject when the brain and body are ready to handle it. This flexibility can give the benefit of the full focus on schoolwork. On-campus classes give the benefit of help on the spot when needed, but students that take a
