On the night of May 23rd, 2015, a 15-year-old boy walked home from a party. He was so intoxicated, that he didn’t know where he was going. The boy wandered onto Outer Ring Road and he fell into a pothole. The pothole was so deep, that the 15-year-old ended up in China. On May 28th, the boy returned home. During his few days in China, the 15-year-old boy learned to speak Google Translated Chinese. “我討厭這些坑洼” he said. Translation: I hate these potholes. On June 23rd, 2015, another man fell down a pothole. Dean Smith hit a massive pothole, while driving through Topsail Road. This pothole was so huge that it engulfed his entire vehicle, which was a 1969 Impala. However, Smith did not end up in China. Instead, he ended up in Nazi Germany. This was really bad news for Mr. Smith considering that he’s gay, transgender, Jewish, and African-Canadian. Luckily, Smith manage to return to 21st Century Canada without the Nazis noticing. However, he did leave his Impala …show more content…
After running scientific experiments, scientists have concluded that about 50% of these potholes lead to various points in time, space, and dimension. For months, scienctists had no clue why. That until now. Back in May of 2015, the Steve Harrison Institute of Technology (S.H.I.T) has developed a new piece of technology to help students with their spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It’s called Spellcheck 2.0. Every time a student misspells a world, or uses incorrect punctuation or grammar, they will recieve and electrical shock. English teachers are thrilled about this about this new technology. “I feel like I’m wasting my time teaching” said one English Teacher, who asked to remain anonymous. “I teach them English, and later on that day, when they get home, I constantly see the words allowed and aloud mixed up. In my class, these kids ain’t aloud to make those kinds of
This year’s spring is expected to have more potholes than recent years. This is largely due to the large amount of Chicago’s temperature fluctuation this winter season.
In the essay “I Think, Therefore IM,” by Jennifer Lee, she explains how texting and the internet life is effecting kids today in their English classes. She tells how teachers are threating the students, if the students use speed writing in their writings. Some others teachers decided to use the new step in the language evolution by comparing today’s language to Shakespeare language. Some teachers are worried about today’s youth and how will they effect the English language. While other teachers can’t wait to see how the language will change.
Wide varieties of technologies, from social media to the printing press, have changed the way people speak and write english.
Because texting is so popular in teens as well as adults we may forget that writing “Oh My God” should be spelled properly in an essay instead of “OMG.” However texting can improve a student’s writing skills. An example of this would be translating a piece of literature into a language you can understand. Some schools are already taking advantage of this option by sending out emergency notifications, messages from the teacher, and schoolwide events. The ability to send messages through texts can be a huge benefit for teachers, parents, and
Through technology we are introduce to various gadgets that assists us in many different areas of our lives. Such as smart TVs, smart phones, laptops, tablets, computers and many more. In recent discussion of writing, a controversy issue has been whether texting affects our formal writing. In Michaella Cullington article “Does Texting Affect Writing,” Cullington contested that constant texting interfering with students’ formal writing skills. To clarify her claims, a seventh and ninth grade teacher said (They say, I Say. Pg. 363) “she as to spend extra time in class editing papers and must “explicitly” remind her students that it is not acceptable to use slang and abbreviations in writing.” In this case, her students are abbreviating their words instead of writing formal. Despite the anecdotal, sadly I found myself forgetting how to spell certain words. Because of auto-corrections and suggestions my smart phones give, I no longer need to break words up in syllables to spell them. If I start typing and make a mistake a list of suggestions appears, all I need to do is select the correct one. No brainstorm as simple as that. In fact, our brains are like a muscle and in order for it to grow strong and us being wise we have to use it, if we don’t used it, it will
The Hole In The Ground had been there for generations no one knows how or where it originated from. The immortals of this world worshiped the Hole In The Ground, treated it like a God. The immortals had a daily devotional near the hole only the very important beings were allowed. Cur was an average person in his world, a little different awkward and he had a whole lot of curiosity. This faithful day Cur was near the

Although potholes can potentially result from improper installation of the asphalt pavement, most of the time, they are weather-related. If cracks are not filled, water can leak underneath the pavement. Sand and gravel may collect in the crack as
In the TED Talk, linguist John McWhorter speaks about the varying opinions people have on how texting is influencing modern writing for the better/worse. In the video, McWhorter explains his opinions on texting and gives some very stellar answers to many questions proposed about today’s upcoming new lingo. The barrier between speech and writing has been broken and McWhorter explores every aspect of it in his time on stage.
Skylar Gibbs Paula Schevers-Lumelsky English 101 2/14/17 Technologies Effect on Our Literacy Is technology effecting our literacy abilities? This is a question asked by many, Literacy is found to be our ability to read and write. If you look around it seems as if everything is turning into some form of technology. With the click of a mouse information can be sent millions of miles away without even a thought of how that could be possible. Technology is being taught by the young and learned by the old.
Whoosh! Scream! Boom! The sinkhole was growing and growing Michael was running as fast as he could, then Michael started falling. Deeper and deeper by the second, then everything went black.
Potholes what are potholes. Potholes are those things that you sometimes run over while you are driving that causes a bump that most of the time we try to avoid but, in my opinion we need more potholes. Why do we need more potholes? Because it could help drivers in the long run.

After much debate and arguing we finally decided we would just gather up what money we had between us, and ride some backroads for the entire day. We all whipped out our wallets and scrounged up every cent we had, which came out to be almost forty five dollars. So we drove to the gas station, spent ten dollars on snacks and drinks for the day, and put the other thirty five in gas. We could not have been happier with the way everything was panning out. We pulled out of the gas station and headed down Bolton Brownsville road, we drove for about an hour or so before we started to get bored. Then one of my friends suggested we head back in to Clinton and go to the old race track off of the frontage road. We all agreed that it sounded like a great idea, because we knew there were a few good mud holes out there that we could try my new tires in. So after about another thirty minute drive we pulled into the old race track. We parked my truck out of sight and walked down to the abandoned track, we walked on the track for a while, and then decide to go get back in the truck and hit a few mud hole we had spotted on the walk. So there we were again back in the truck, we rounded the corner of the first trail, and here was the first hole. It wasn’t very big only about 15ft long and seemed to be mostly water, I dropped my truck in to four wheel drive high low range, and crept through the first hole with ease. We were all laughing and having a good
Students who regularly read and compose text messages show a tendency to have a greater awareness of literacy and vocabulary. Studies have shown that when students see abbreviations of words, such as those they would use while texting, have resulted in them being able to obtain more material in a quicker period of time and performing better on spelling tests. When students text, they regularly practice their abbreviation skills, which can then be applied for educational benefits such as performing well on spelling tests or by making studying an easier and quicker process. Along with the use of abbreviations, texting has also increased the efficiency at which we can communicate. With the use of textisms, or abbreviations,
