Dear, school administration
Although homework may be beneficial to some students, I think it doesn’t help with our education and needs to stop. To begin, is homework necessary? Australia did a study on homework inflicting kids’ learning. It wasn’t helpful for students in grades below 11th and 12th, yet it was beneficial towards upperclassmen in high school. A british study showed homework being beneficial to all students. Homework every night for 2-3 hours helped in english, math and science. Secondly, other than Britain, there is no evidence to demonstrate that homework is beneficial to students below the high school age. More homework isn’t correlated with children in elementary school. The only thing that shows up less positive attitude
Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences between the arguments for more or less homework are remarkable. It is important to see both the positive and negative viewpoints, because homework is something that every student will have to deal with. It can be stressful with extracurricular activities and at some points may seem useless. However, homework is beneficial for understanding the material, and keeping kids out of trouble. Overall, I believe that even though homework may be excessive at some points, it can be extremely beneficial for the future.
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is
Homework should be banned from all schools across America. Homework stresses kids out and leaves them frustrated. It decreases the amount of time being spent with family. It lessens their time of being active. Homework is supposed to help kids, but most of the time it is hurting them. Less than 1% of students say that homework is not a stressor which leaves more than 99% of students being stressed out about their homework.
In my opinion, homework is very lengthy and over-done. Some teachers give multiple pages or packets of homework each night. My argument is not that homework should disappear completely, but that there should be a limit to how much a teacher gives per week. In other words, the homework should be shorter. The article The Trouble With Homework by Anne Murphy Paul says that most homework is “busy work”. This means that teachers constantly give homework just to keep the students busy, when it actually doesn’t benefit the student whatsoever.
In the beginning I believed homework was in no way helpful to kids, but my opinion slightly changed after reading the article “Would Kids Be All Right Without Homework?” by Susan Schwartz. The article explains how homework can help children learn if given in moderate amounts. For example, David Mcleod, father of a seven year old son, says through homework, ¨we could see what he was learning and what he was having trouble with¨ (Schwartz). I agreed that homework could give parents a better idea of what their children are doing in school, but sometimes it is too much. To illustrate, David also tells an interviewer, ¨He'd [David's son] come home tired and hungry after being picked up from an after-school program some days as late as 6 p.m. That's a long day. Between dinner and homework, there was often little downtime before bedtime¨ (Schwartz). Although it is important for parents to be involved
Students should not have homework because it adds extra stress to their lives. Kids are already very stressed because of school, especially high school students who happen to get the most homework. Homework is just added stress. Students already stress about grades, colleges, IN class work, sports, family life, and friends so why add to that with
Most students claim that homework is very frustrating. In fact, 99% of students who have homework, think that it is much too stressful. We kids should be able to spend time with their family, instead of doing work already assigned and completed in class. No elementary student should have homework. It is not shown to be a benefit, but rather a stressor and time consumer. Why are you upsetting the next generation?
Many children have to spend hours every day doing homework. Some people believe that this will help the children's’ academic career. Others believe that homework is useless. I believe that the students should get an option, because they already have seven hours of school, homes can be really loud and distracting,
School is something we all have to go through. And all through school, we get homework. Most students think that homework is a horrific thing, but it has been proven to give more benefits than disadvantages. It can teach independence, responsibility, and can improve grades. Also it benefits the teacher, by letting the teacher know how much and how comfortable the students are with the topics. Homework is beneficial to high school and middle school students and teachers in the US.
Homework needs to be smarter. In the article “Research Trends: Why Homework Should be Balanced” it is stated that “the goal shouldn't be to eliminate homework, but to make it authentic, meaningful and engaging”. I could not agree with this statement more. If we want homework to help students why do we worry more about the amount we give rather than what we give? As students, we deal with countless amounts of homework on a daily basis and much of it is just busy work. The truth is we aren't learning much from it either. There is little or no evidence that suggests any benefits amongst elementary kids, and there are only small benefits to our secondary students. In fact the opposite can be true. “Assigning too much homework can result in poor
I think we should not have homework because it infers with after school atives. According to “The Homework Debate” if you give kids too much homework they will not be able to go outside and just be kids. According to “BBC News” going outside is very important because it allows your kids to meet more kids and have a social life. Also if you assign too much homework to your kids the will not do it and if they do not do it, which will lower their grads, scores which will equal to the kids falling there grads and not good colleges or scholarships. And scholarships are imported because it will allow your kids to have a better financial start at life. Too much homework equals to less sleep, less focus, and mental health problems which equals
What are your thoughts about homework? Do you think that it really helps you or do you think that it is bad for you? Imagine a world without homework. Some people may argue that homework is great as it really helps you understand the material and get better grades, however, some disagree and say that homework is bad for oneself and creates many health and life problems. Homework should not exist as it creates too many problems with one’s health and life, and would be much better if kids in school did not have to do homework. The majority of students absolutely hate homework and life would be so much better without it. Stress and high blood pressure, less time for interests, doing work on top of going to school, and
The general arguments given by teachers and some parents are that homework increases the overall grade averages, sharpens study habits, and helps students become more prepared for college work. Along with that, it helps students learn responsibility for life in the work field of the real work. Although these arguments are valid, there are arguments against homework as well. Homework causes students to be stressed out when there is too much to be done by a certain deadline and takes away the free time of students. Some of the work that students are assigned isn't relevant to what they are studying. Worst of all, it causes that struggling student to lose interest in the study of that subject ("Students and Homework"). While it does have negative outcomes, homework also has it's perks.
When in a large room full of people talking away, we tend to pay more attention to the voices easiest to hear; the loudest ones. The debate over homework is one taking place in this metaphorical room. There are many, many people talking, but the loudest voices are easiest to hear. Currently those voices are saying that we should get rid of all homework for young students. But are those loud voices right? The more soft-spoken, expert voices are telling us the opposite. Homework teaches excellent study skills and is extremely beneficial to students, therefore it should be mandatory from a young age to help them to become high achievers. Homework helps kids to learn to work hard; they can get used to it early on. The cliche ‘practice makes perfect’ is ever applicable, and experts have come up with a rule for how much homework children should be given.
What are your thoughts about homework? Do you think that it actually helps you or do you think that it is non-beneficial for you? Imagine a world without homework. Numerous people may argue that homework is great as it really helps one understand the material and obtain improved grades. On the other hand, some disagree and say that homework is bad for oneself and creates many health and life problems. Homework should not exist as it does create too many problems with one’s health and life, and would be better if the youth in school did not need to do homework. The majority of students absolutely loath homework and life would be so much better without it. Stress and high blood pressure, less time for interests, doing work on top of going to school, and not making a difference with understanding the material and getting good grades are all reasons why homework is an issue.
