On June 15, 2012, President Obama signed into law Deferred Action Arrivals (DACA) this new policy will allow undocumented youth who have been in the United States before January 1, 2010 to stay in the United States for a renewable two year period and avoid deportation (“Consideration of Deferred Action,”2015). Recipients who are eligible for DACA will be able to receive a work authorization, this policy does not provide a pathway to citizenship. According to an article “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” (DACA): Funding Opportunities for Philanthropy’ published by Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees, stated six purposes of DACA are:
Provide a chance to live and work legally in the United States.
Youth who are granted DACA

Hanen ruled in favor of the state of Texas, temporary blocking the expansion of DACA”. Many states are against on the expansion of DACA, many argued that this policy has a negative effect to the state as well to their citizens. The expansion of DACA will allow those who did not qualify under DACA in 2012 to reapplied under the new guidelines created by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service(USCIS). Under this expansion the age cap, and the date of entry to qualify for DACA will be removed, currently the department USCIS is accepting only DACA …show more content…
legally. Those who applied sometimes wait for years to enter the U.S. and to obtain these benefits like how the DACA program is allowing these individuals to gain. Opponents against these policy will argue that the U.S. immigration system is broken when it comes to implementing the immigration reform. Republican Texas Governor Grey Abbott is one of many opponents of this policy along with other states has requested to block the expansion of DACA. Abbott mentions that “that's why we filed that lawsuit against the President saying his executive order was illegal, so that people would never begin to even go down the process, of this DACA pathway(Ortiz, 2014)” as a result of these lawsuits DACA is temporary blocked.. Furthermore, anti-immigrant hate groups are the most active organizations against this policy, one organization that has expressed their concerns against DACA is called the Federation For American Immigration Reform (FAIR). FAIR is a nonprofit organization established on January 2, 1979 its main goal is to improve border security, and to stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States. Over the years the number of members has increased, currently they have more than 250,000 members and supporters nationwide(FAIR, 2015), FAIR has join forces with
“Federal government decisions about immigration have always been upheld by the US Supreme Court, which overruled attempts for any state to have a say regarding immigration”(Find-Law 2). Typically the state of Texas laws regarding immigration have to do with employment, education, licensing, and state benefits. Even though federal government has the majority of the say regarding the laws of immigration, they have to be able to know when they need to back off. Every state requires different laws when dealing with immigration laws. Almost every Texas state law that has to do with immigration is challenged either by the Federal government or civil liberties groups. The federal government does not like the idea of having different laws
To fully grasp the concept of its benefits, one must understand: What is DACA? DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and is a three year security from deportation. The program was set in motion in 2012 by President Barack Obama when he signed it on as an executive order. DACA allows undocumented workers, known as Dreamers, to work towards achieving a
DACA is deferred action for childhood arrivals, it’s relief from deportations and work authorizations which is renewed every two years for those brought to America as children illegally. DACA recipients are often called, “dreamers”. Those who fail are eligible for deportation. Trump ended the DACA program leaving millions of undocumented people to lose their privilege in working and going to college to end up deported. Recently in the U.S., President Trump and his administration announced plans that could lead to end of the DACA Program. As part of the wind-down, no new DACA applications will be accepted. Those currently enrolled in DACA can continue working legally until their permits expire. Senior officials said they don’t plan to share
DACA was created by the Obama administration in June of 2012 with the vision to relief deportation and giving protection to foreign minors who entered the country illegally so that they could stay, work and get education without being deported to their country of origin. DACA has been entitling to controversy and uncertainty since the Trump administration because this action provides the recipients the opportunity to receive a two year renewable deferral of deportation, a work permit and benefits provided by the government. This action has been rescind by the President Donald Trump on September of 2017; more than 800,000 recipients (known as DREAMers) are left with concerns, worriers and fears of being deported to their country of birth because their families, education, friends and life is here in The United States.
In June 2012 the Obama administration announced the creation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program grants deferred action (protection from deportation) and work authorization to certain young unauthorized immigrants who came to the United States as children, have pursued an education, and have not committed serious crimes or pose no national security threat (Hipsman, Faye, and Doris Meissner, 2014). Individuals who are granted DACA status are considered as being "lawful presence," regardless of their citizenship which makes individuals eligible for driver's licenses and other state-determined benefits where states choose to grant them (Adams, Angela, and Kerry S. Boyne, 2015). The individuals who apply to DACA have to go through intense background checks, which includes fingerprint analysis, to make sure the individuals are safe for society. For all purpose DACA students are one step closer to legal status and have been deemed to be helpful to society. Many opponents of in-state tuition for undocumented students claimed that because the students could not legally work the state would lose money, however DACA has changed things forever. Now the DACAmented students can get jobs and pursue the careers they studied for in college (Adams, Angela, and Kerry S. Boyne, 2015). According to Migration Policy Institute, it is estimated that 1.7 million individuals are eligible for the DACA program. As of March 2013, the program's rolling application process has seen 469,530 requests and USCIS has approved 245,493 cases (Hipsman, Faye, and Doris Meissner, 2014). These immigrants pay taxes (i.e, sales taxes) and now they are working legally, which means more revenue for the state in both wage and sales taxes. The third policy alternative would ease the worries of anti-Texas Dream Act in the respect that the students
The DACA program was created by the Obama Administration back in 2012. DACA is an acronym for Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals. The purpose
In September of 2017, the Trump administration made a statement saying that DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) will come to an end, calling the program unconstitutional and criticizing it as "unilateral executive amnesty." DACA is an executive order created by former President Barack Obama, and the program allows hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who came to the United States as a child illegally to remain in the United States. The majority of applicants to DACA cannot have serious criminal history and must have been brought to the US before 2007, under the age of 16. DACA allows for these young people to live and work inside the US legally without risk of deportation. Now, the issue with Trump ending
DACA is a US immigration policy that allows some individuals, under strict conditions, entered the country as minors and remained in the country without legal permission to do so, can receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and be eligible for a work permit. The program started in 2012 by the Obama Administration but is currently in danger of being phased out by the 2017
Background Information: President Barack Obama created DACA through a 2012 executive order. The program has allowed hundreds of thousands of young people who were brought to the United States illegally as children to remain in the country. People who apply for the program can not have major criminal histories, and must have arrived in the U.S. before 2007, when they were under the age of 16. DACA recipients can live and work legally in the U.S. for renewable two-year periods. DACA was a agreement created by the Obama administration after Congress failed to approve the Dream Act. Experts estimate that about 11.5 million residents in the United States are unauthorized immigrants
I feel that DACA is a great opportunity for immigrants like our founding fathers to start a new life. Many people come to America as a vacation but then see how amazing our great country is and stay to continue the path of becoming an American citizen. Mr. Trump is willing to support DACA along with not revising DACA as long as congress funds for a border wall along with other demands.
After hearing the news, I felt as if my worries were crawling right back up to my shoulders. As if I was at the top of the mountain and then had someone push back down. Finding out that the Senate has plans to take down the DACA was as if they were closing the doors to my success. As the Congress debates over immigration reform, August the 15th marks the second anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. On the 15th of August 2012, President Obama began a policy calling for deferred action towards certain young individuals who came to the United States as children and are known as Dreamers(LOGOS). This policy allows this group of people to have similar rights that are initially reserved for the citizens of the United States, like applying for employment or having a social security. The Daca program also secures the young dreamers from deportation.
As of October 2017, DACA has been abolished by Congress and supports from the Trump Administration. DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), established by the Department of Homeland Security on June 12, 2012, is a policy which helps illegal aliens that are coming into the United States get benefits that Congress did not act to provide by law. Many of these recipients are spread throughout the United States. In 2014, another policy called DAPA (Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents) was expanded from the 2012 DACA policy. This policy was similar to DACA but it helped certain aliens who have children’s that have U.S. Citizenship. On June 29, 2017, Texas and several other states sent letters to the
The Senate Bill 4 was passed on the early morning of April 27, 2017, and many oppositions have arisen over the course of the past month. This bill will ban “sanctuary” jurisdictions once it begins later this year and the opinions about it vary from person to person. Personally, I am against it, for Texas is known for its large
Trump wants to change DACA and re legalize it. DACA is an immigration policy that let’s illegal immigrant kids study. Trump’s strategy is to make congress change DACA and re legalize it. . When congress tries to change DACA it will take at least 18 months. Congress has 2 choices. But when Congress changes it by scraping it, they will leave thousands of kids that cannot study, if they come up with something else life will be better for them. Congress has only one choice to choose. Trump is just trying to make republican congress members lifes
Lacy M. Johnson is upset by the president’s decision on revoking DACA, which allows people who came to the U.S. illegally from a young age to work and go to school without getting deported. Jeff Sessions says that the rescinding of DACA will prevent human suffering, but Johnson says otherwise that it will cause human suffering. The author continues saying that the removal of DACA will affect a large number of Dreamers and in the process, will affect Houston as well. President Trump’s decision on ending DACA is “the compassionate thing” according to Jeff Sessions, but Johnson says it’s not compassion relative to the help she has seen after the devastation. In her article, “It’s the DACA Decision, Not Hurricane Harvey, That May Tear Houston Apart”
