During your life you may go through many things, events, and phases that may have a major effect on you. Hardships can influence somebody’s life by leading them out of their comfort zone. My sister, a very smart and bright person, was getting bullied at her old school. The worst part is she was being bullied by her ‘’friends’’. She couldn’t stand it any longer, so she moved. My sister would never usually do something like that, but because of those girls bullying her she escaped her comfort zone and moved. In’’The Gift Of The Magi’’ Della, one of the main character, really wants to get her, loving and sweet, husband a gift for Christmas. Della doesn’t have any money to get her husband something. Della had beautiful hair which everyone
Everyone has had hardships in their life, but some people overcome them better than others, but Even though the hardships they always influence your life for the better in one way or another. Hardships can influence a person's life by making them stronger.
Hardships are a permanent part of life we will always come across. They can toughen us up to the world we live in.
When people go through something difficult it can change them. Making them who they are, it can change them for the bad or good. Therefore, hardships can greatly influence a person’s life by making them appreciate all the things that make life enjoyable.

In The Gift of the Magi, by O. Henry (1906), Della is one of two main characters, the other being her beloved husband, Jim. On Christmas Eve, Della has saved very little for a present for Jim when she decides to sell her most prized possession, her long beautiful hair, for more money. After doing this, and buying the perfect gift,
Hardships are something everyone goes through, be it failing an exam or losing a loved one. Hardships are difficult to deal with, but overcoming them can lead to success.
Hardships can influence a person's way of living negatively or positively, just depending on your perception of things. The ability to value your life and the people surrounding you is not taught by any teacher, but learned through the daily obstacles one usually goes through.
At some point in everyone’s life they will face a hardship; it is merely a matter of when not if. Struggles can influence someone's life by forcing them to power through a hard time.
When I think of the word “hardship,” I think of situations of great loss, divorced parents, or extreme poverty. Looking at things from that point of view, I have never experienced a “hardship.” Although, I have not dealt with these types of hardships, I can still think about smaller daily struggles. It is important to remember that different people go through different situations because everyone has a different life and lesson to learn. I may not remember a time someone close to me died or a time when I was hungry, but I remember how hard it was for me to learn, when I was younger.
The Gift of the Magi is a short story about a young, less fortunate couple. Christmas is around the corner, and Della is concerned about what to get for her cherished husband. She has been saving up for months. Yet she only has 1.78 dollars. This puts her in a dilemma. She wants to get him something honorable, but 1.78 dollars does not go very far. Sitting by the mirror, looking at her long brown hair. Her hair was one of the two greatest treasures the couple had. The other treasure was Jim’s watch, which had a leather strap in replace of a chain. To afford Jim’s present, she cut off her hair and sold it. Later in the evening when Jim comes home, he is quite surprised to find his wife having cut off her long precious hair.
If you had different hardships in your life would you be a different person? The answer is most likely yes. A person’s character is based upon the experiences they have been through. “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant,” –Horace. In “And Still We Rise” by Miles Corwin, Corwin shares the lives of inner city kids who still strive to succeed and go to college although the circumstances they are dealt with have told them otherwise. Some of the kids that dealt with bad hands were Toya, Olivia, and Willie. The struggles that they went through are impetuous.
In life, everyone will face some form of hardship. Some people may not go through as many hardships as some others might but we all still have our own personal problems. In my life I have not faced many hardships like some others have which I am very grateful for such things not happening to me. But even though I haven't gone through many hardships I have still had my own fair share of hardships. One such hardship I have gone through is overcoming the death of a loved one.
“Thump thump” that is the sound of Della’s heart around Jim. In the story “The Gift of the Magi” Della is very thoughtful because she is caring, loving, and also selfless.
Della and Jim were the wisest because they loved each other so much that they were willing to sell what meant the most to them just to make each other happy. But, Della and Jim, although the wisest for their love, were also foolish. Della and Jim were foolish because, already poor, each sacrificed their most prized possession to buy the other a special Chistmas gift. According to O.Henry, Della and Jim are both the wisest and foolish of their sacrifices.I quote, "And here I have lamely related to you the uneventful chronicle of two foolish children in a flat who have most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house. But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are the wisest" (O.Henry 157). Jim and Della sacrificing their most valuable possessions is how sacrifice is depicted in the short story, "The Gift of Magi." Mathilde is extremely self-centered at first. When her husband gets her an invitation to a ball, she acts childish and asks for money to buy a new dress. Mathilde saying,"What do you think I have to go in ?" (Maupassant 29) and her husband responding by sacrificing the four hundred francs that he had set aside for himself to buy a rifle, to allow Mathilde to buy a new dress for the ball, shows that Monsieur Loisel is willing to make sacrifices for his wife.Jim and Della can relate
