Apollo is also known as Phoebus , a well-respected individual is the know god of many things. To begin with, the god of music, as he plays a golden lyre(harp). The god plagues and of healing as he gives the science of medicine to man. Secondly, the god of light, as he carry’s the sun. Finally, the god of truth and oracles as the patron who gave wisdom in Delphi.

The God will be talking about is Apollo. He’s the god of music, healing, medicine, prophecy, archery, plague, knowledge and the sun. Apollo is well known for all his prophecies and that he was one of the twelve gods that was believed to live on Mount. Olympus. The Greeks worshipped Apollo because he helped the Delians, Greek Mythology considered him as the god of the sun and a prophet about the future. It’s important to know about Apollo because he played important roles, like for example he was responsible to move the sun with his four-chariot horse to give light.Apollo is the son of Zeus and Goddess Leto, born on the island of Delos. His early life was busy, he had many responsibilities to keep up with each day. When he was only four days old, he showed great talent for archery and he played on his golden Lyre (which Hermes gave to him). The family members of Apollo are his twin sister Artemis (the goddess of hunting), his parents Zeus and Leto, grandmother name Phoebe (titan goddess of prophecy and oracular intellect). Apollo isn’t known as the god of light in mythology, but he’s known as the god of healing and prophecy. In the ancient Roman history, Apollo is the first god to have the same name in ancient Roman history and Greek Mythology. Also, his real name is Phoebus which means “bright” or “pure” and connects him to his grandmother, the Titan goddess Phoebe.

After 20 years had passed, Jim Lovell, one of the Apollo 13, and Jeffrey Kluger wrote Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13, which chronicled this event in NASA’s lunar space history. Just as these Olympic swimmers will gain a medal for placing, ancient Athens had numerous accomplishments of its own. Athens “prosperity … was due in large part to its stable and effective government” (SOURCE 1). When analyzing the history of ancient Athens, is easy to see how the accomplishments of a democracy, Greek philosophy, and Greek literature all shape Athens.

The site of Delphi is well known for its unique oracular Greek temple on Mount Parnassus and its continual importance is reflected through its changing historical context. From the political, social and historical importance placed on the Pythia by the ancient Greeks and Spartans to the emergence of the Sophists movements of Athens and onwards to the modern resurgence of interest in the fields of excavation and conservation in contemporary times, the site of Delphi has remained an historical site of significance for over a thousand years.

Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics. However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners, the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis, primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 - 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city (mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of “colonization.” The word is not used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean “spreading of culture”, as the former can hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through Athenian empire-building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene, which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and influence in the Greek region.

According to Butler (2007), Athens victory over the Persian Empire in in 478 B.C.E was a moral boost for the city-state and it gave them a new sense of confidence. The cost of this newly gained self-confidence was all the destruction war had left behind, including the partial destruction of Athens, vineyards and olive groves. This fact combined with the threat of Persians’ return to Greece motivated Greece to unite and form an offensive against Persians; the newly formed Greek alliance was the Delian League. Both of its objectives – defending Aegean islands, and, liberating Ionian Greeks required a strong sea power. Athens had a strong navy and the experience to lead it and that made this city-state the best candidate for leadership (“Formation of the Delian League”). In order to evaluate the success of the Delian League, we are going to look at a few factors, including Economy, military control, the expansion of democracy, and achievements.
