One of such stresses is body position and posture. While there is not an emphasis on lifting patients throughout the day, the assistant works in aide to the dentist and must be able to work with proper posture to prevent complications later in their careers. The dental assistant would be instructed to stand, sit, lean, and bend in order to provide the best assistance to the dentist as necessary. There was no education on posture, ergonomics, or alternative techniques to accomplish the task without sacrificing bodily health. Over the recent years, the staffs have mandatory continuing education courses on proper posture annually and they are encouraged to see massage therapists through a program which helps to pay for it, and chairs that facilitate
During the sessions the focus will be on safety and utilization of body mechanics. Printed materials regarding patient lifting and moving are available via the Employee Health office and will be handed out during the training.
Aides spend many hours standing and walking, and often face heavy workloads. Because they may have to move patients in and out of bed or help them stand or walk, they must guard against back injury. Aides may also face hazards from minor infections and major diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis, but can avoid infections by following proper procedures. Most L.P.N.’s work a 40-hour week, but because patients need around-the-clock care, some work nights, weekends, and holidays. They often stand for long periods and help patients move in bed, stand, or walk. They also face hazards from caustic chemicals, radiation, and infectious diseases and also are subject to back injuries when moving patients. In addition, the patients they care for may be confused, irrational, agitated or uncooperative.
Young children and many adults are terrified of visiting the dentist. The first clinician they would see is the dental hygienist, making it extremely important for the dental hygienist to be kind, understanding, and easy to talk to. These characteristics will allow patients to be at ease and enjoy their dental visits. It is also important for dental hygienists to be good listeners so they could understand their patients` concerns. Physical skills are just as important as interpersonal skills in this career. It is important to have good finger dexterity and near vision. These physical skills will come to good use because the job of dental hygienists require them to use instruments in the small area of a patient's mouth. It is also crucial that a dental hygienist be in good physical shape. Dental hygienists spend most of their time crouched over a patient which could result in back pain if the hygienist is not healthy and
I observed a second year student in the dental clinic who was incredibly enthusiastic, genuine, cheerful, and helpful, and her personality would fit perfectly into what I consider the typical dental hygienist. She seemed very well prepared and confident in her ability to treat her patient. A dynamic conversation was held throughout the appointment with her easygoing and cooperative patient. Besides the appropriate clock and chair positions, I was not aware of many proper techniques when I observed at the beginning of the semester. I noticed the student kept the patient chair in the same position for treating the maxillary and mandibular teeth. I observed her for the full four hours including the preparation before her patient arrived until
During hourly rounds assess the patients pain level and take necessary intervention to alleviate pain, reposition patients who need assistance and make sure that urinals and call light and telephone are within reach of the patient. Taking care of these needs in a timely manner will make the patient comfortable, which will reduce anxiety and stress levels in the patient and reduce the risk of falls. The nurse should always make sure that the environment is safe for the patient by keeping the area clutter free. Comfort measures like tightening the wrinkled bed, giving warm blanket, changing moist dressings or repositioning the tubes or other objects that bothering the patient can enhance their comfort level Monitor high risk patients with delirium, dementia, hypotension, medications, and other conditions which can increase the risk of fall. Providing safety companions for continuous observation and to help the patients will reduce the number of falls. Nurses should educate and encourage patients to use the call light and phone to call for help. Provide patients with appropriate assistive devices like cane, walker as needed to keep them steady. I believe the concept in this theory of comfort can be utilized to reduce the occurrence of falls in health care settings.
True enough, relaxing at the working office is less challenging when compared with walking, biking, or traversing difficult trails. Due to the sedentary lifestyle of several people, their bodies greatly suffer. According to studies, back pain is an extremely common condition and almost all of today’s workforce is experiencing it. While using cool atmosphere provided by the air-conditioning systems and limited body movements, the physical is

Looking through different regions in California, one of them stands out on having a high pay rate is the Bay Area. And, going more in depth than that, the city that pays the most for Dental Assisting in the Bay Area is San Francisco. That being said the question is: “Why does San Francisco city pay more than other cities in the Bay Area?”
Physical Therapist Assistants also need to use heat, ice, and electric versions of therapeutic healings and soothings on hurting areas. They can also be trained to treat burning areas with small pools or hot tubs for patients. These are used to cool down infected areas and cause relaxation to bones and muscles that are in pain for the patient. The last main thing Physical Therapist Assistants learn is to give proper and relaxing muscle massages that help make the muscles not feel pain and rub out knots. This treatment will help the circulation of your muscles. Most patients get all of these treatments during their visits to Physical Therapy. All of these descriptions of a day to day routine may differ depending on the location you work in. Including schools, Physical Therapist offices, and hospitals (Fue). This is the day to day routine of a Physical Therapist Assistant of today.
Orthodontists has many tasks to complete throughout each day. Although an orthodontist's primary job is to align teeth, and make sure the facial structure of the patient is growing properly, they must also give instructions to dental officers and technical assistants each day. Aside from giving instructions, and the orthodontist must take many steps in caring for their patients. By doing so, the first step in caring for their patient is to analyze their patient’s records. By analyzing the records, they check their medical or dental history, previously made plaster models of teeth, photos of patients face and teeth, and they x-ray the patient. This helps to creates the patient’s plan in order to properly align their teeth, and it gives an estimated cost for their treatment. (Degree Directory, “What Are the Duties of an
Most assistants will work in an office where they will assist in doing a variety of different things like taking care of all of the equipment as well as the instruments used by the dentist. They will make sure that all of these things are in good working order and ready for whenever the dentist is in need of them.
The typical working areas for dental assistants are very clean, organized, and well lit. They must wear gloves, masks, eyewear, and protective clothing so that they are not exposed to any kind of infectious diseases. Assistants must also follow safety guidelines while operating x-ray machines and equipment. Dental assistants are very important to the dental team because they work so closely with the dentist so that they can provide quick and accurate service to the patient. Assistants will typically work 30-40 hours a week, and most offices are not open to the public on Fridays. A few dental assistants must work half-days on Fridays to organize storage areas and to check inventory on the materials used in the office. Some
Immediately after high school, I attended Concorde Career College with the goal of obtaining a dental assistant degree. Dental assistants help dental operators such as dentists and dental hygienists with providing more efficient dental treatment. We also prepare patients for treatments, sterilize instruments, handle instruments, operate dental equipment, process dental radiographs, and take dental impressions (“Dental Assistant”).
Dental assistance is part of allied health and to be able to achieve this occupation you would just need certificates which could be through studying at an institution (4). Physiotherapy is also under allied health although requires a higher standard of education and the Bachelor of Physiotherapy is required (5).
This reflection acts as my fourth reflection since I have started my internship at Comfort Dental under the Guidance of Dr. Trino Nuno. The semester is coming to an end, and I have enjoyed my time at Comfort Dental., I previously had a clinical and administrative internship at Smile Works Dentistry in Rockwall, Texas and I can now tell you that my experience at these two dental practices was incredibly different. At Smile Works, I quickly got used to the way the practice was run because it was not that complicated and I only had one doctor’s schedule to manage. However, at Comfort Dental I still struggle with managing day-to-day functions. The reason I struggle is that Comfort Dental has three doctors and a lot more staff. Also, the computer system that I mastered at Smile Works is not the same computer system that they use at Comfort Dental. I got the chance to use all to same skills in this internship. I answered phones, checked that patient’s insurance plans are eligible to be billed and scanned paper documents into a hard drive.
