Depression People usually feel down or sad. These feelings sometimes pass in days or even hours. When you have depression, it interferes with your daily life. It can cause pain for you. But it will also affect those around you. Depression is a mental condition characterized by feelings of severe despair and grief, also with feelings of insufficiency and guilt, often accompanied by lack of energy and disturbance of appetite and sleep. For children, the duration only needs to be one year, and their mood may be irritable rather than sad or depressed. People with dysthymia may appear to be chronically mildly depressed to the point that it seems to be a part of their personality. The last type of depression is bipolar disorder. It’s also known as manic depressive illness. Bipolar symptoms include periods of elevated mood or irritability. When experiencing a bipolar or manic episode, a person often has high energy levels with lower need for sleep. Less often, people may experience psychosis.
