As I pick up speed I feel the wind push harder and harder in the opposite direction, but my jacket breaks its bite. The reflection of the sun on the stark white snow makes the path ahead harder to see; my destination is still visible, its dead ahead. As I close in I have second thoughts but it's too late for that now. I lean forward to ride my edge and make a quick turn as I launch off of the jump which sends me into a spin until I'm facing my original direction, 360 degrees then my snowboard touches the ground again and I land it. Well, at least I planned on landing it. However, the reality of the situation was different, I ended up hitting the hard snow with my head and shoulder. That happened on my most recent skiing/snowboarding trip. I've been skiing for as long as I can remember but the past few trips I have snowboarded instead. Skiing and snowboarding are some of the things that I'm most passionate about, but the most important part is doing those things with my family and friends. So, get ready to learn some knowledge about me.
Throughout my life, I have been on quite the number of ski/snowboard trips and even though a lot of them have been in the same place it never gets old. I'd tell you about my first time going but I was only two years old so I don't remember, I guess you will have to be satisfied with the story of another time. Last December, I remember the long packing process and the boring drive to the hotel. My aunt and uncle along with my friend, Austin and my sister, Abby were in the vehicle with me. You could say the route to Hood River is somewhat scenic, but after traveling it countless time I couldn't help falling asleep for parts of it. While I wasn't asleep I was busy chatting with everyone in the vehicle which makes it feel shorter but it could never be short enough, I was already excited.
When we finally arrived at our hotel, Hood River Inn, it was late. I immediately notice a difference in temperature when I get out of the vehicle, but it's okay, I love the cold. Then we begin to take in our luggage. Once we were checked in and settled, Austin and I headed for the pool. We saw that it was crowded so we just decided to go for a walk instead, on our walk we spotted another one of
I drove up to Vacaville, California the night before and stayed with family. The following morning I woke up at 6 and drove to Boreal Mountain which was about a two hour drive. I snowboarded from 9am-5pm with about one break and then got in my car and drove five hours back home. My dad had to work and I had just gotten a new pair of goggles so this trip was completely necessary. This was my first trip of the year as China Peak wasn’t open yet so it was completely worth it. Snowboarding takes a snowboarder everywhere in order to chase good snow if not any snow. My passion benefits me by teaching me patience and persistence as driving for eleven hours over the course of two days is not fun by
The battle between skiing and snowboarding has been going on for years. Many loyal skiers and boarders have fought for their style of shredding the powder. This controversial topic has torn many friendships apart. Snowboarding participation fell 4.5 percent during the last five years, while skiing grew 6.7 percent, according to the National Ski Areas Association. Skiing is better than snowboarding because skiing is much easier to learn, skiers have more agility, and skiing is much safer.
One of the most important lessons I have learned from skiing is that I am most successful when I fully commit. As I got older and started doing more intense tricks and bigger cliffs, I started to see a trend. Whenever I dropped into a jump, rail, or cliff unsure of what I was going to do, or not ready to fully commit to the trick, I had a tendency to end up on the ground
A long time ago, it was a man named Robert Harryson. Robert and his wife Ana lived a happy life with their 3 sons, Alex, Will and Ethan and the twin girls that soon will arrive. They had a good economy and a big house after Robert had sold a part of his big successful business. Everything was just perfect. When the family started to grow bigger they decided to hire a housemade, Sarah, so Robert and Ana could spend all their free time with their beloved children. A couple of month were going and then the twins Emily and Katie arrived. Their big brothers couldn't be happier over not just one, but two small babysisters!! The boys adore them and gave them a snowglobe that they had got from their grandmother.
Omg! I am going to have so much fun snowboarding! Today in my life I am at a super cool place. It’s in the UP and it’s called Ski Brule. It has all the snow hills you could possibly think about. I could never stop imagine me going down the hill and be so proud of me. But hopefully I don’t break any bones in my body. Because I still have basketball in the winter. But after I just took a soft energize nap. Then… We arrived. OM to the G! It was exactly what I imagined. The people gliding through the snow with their cool snowboards and their ski’s.
Falling over and over onto the dense sleet surface, with snow penetrating what’s left keeping you warm; your initial experience of snowboarding. Similar to other learning experiences, but perhaps not as harsh. Learning is a journey filled with challenges and sometimes failures. What determines the outcome is whether you can persevere and receive the everlasting reward of success. Learning is what you make of it, may it be learning to snowboard or applying it into the classroom setting. It will be an enriching skill you will be able to apply universally.
Many times when students are given an assignment, they skim through it to see exactly what all needs to be completed. Although skimming seems as if it cuts time in half, skimming through things opens the window for you to miss important information. If a student were to come to me confused about where to begin with an assignment, the first thing I would suggest is pointing out what part the student does not understand. After we have figured out where the student is confused, I would suggest asking the professor to clarify. Anything that the student does not understand, they need to ask the professor until they gain full clarity, that way they can get the highest grade possible. Next I would ask if they had ever used an outline as a tool to complete an assignment. Regardless of the answer, I would help them begin filling one out, and we would start with what the teacher is asking. We would see that the teacher has assigned a four page, MLA format paper. I would have the student write down the criteria of the paper, that way no points are taken off on something as simple as the format. After we have gotten the basics of what the teacher has assigned, it is time to look at what the student will be writing about.
An interest, a hobby, or a lifestyle? Nordic skiing has put many tolls on my life. Through hard work and dedication; I have put myself in a position where not only would my application be incomplete without mentioning skiing, but my life would be unthinkable without it. To be a successful skier, there are many obstacles a person must overcome. Which all include an unimaginable prize to be won.
I got all my rental gear for example, my board, helmet, and my boots. The club had it own room where members could leave your belongings and get a lift ticket. Once I got all my gear on and put my ticket on, I was ready to hit the slopes. The first step to learning how to snowboard are the basics skills for example, standing up, back heal stop, toe stop, and shredding. Learning these skills only took 2 days, but the other guys were struggling for a couple more days. When everyone has the basics down, we must keep riding the hills to get better. We rode on two hills called the EZ rider and the terrain. The EZ riders is more for beginners, it’s not as steep as other hills, wider trails, and easier chair lifts to get off. The terrain is a little harder it has jumps, rails, and other obstacles, steeper than most hills, and faster chair lifts. Riding the same hills repetitively slowly became tiresome. With even switching from hill to hill it felt like I was making the same movements, swaying my board side to side. The others guys happen to catch on to the technique faster than I was able to, but that never stopped me. Them getting better only pushed me harder because I wanted to be better than them and eventually I will be.
After calculating the fair value of Snowy Ridge’s assets it was necessary to test for impairment. Impairment was tested by comparing the carrying value of each asset to its fair value (see table 2). The carrying value of marketable securities as of June 30th was $4,500,000. The current fair value of marketable securities was found to be 4,565,000, a positive difference of$ 65,000. Changes in marketable securities are reported even without impairment, thus an adjustment was made (see table 3). The carrying value of the mountain division as of June 30th was $12,360,000. The current fair
After about a half hour of walking down the mountain I sat on my snowboard to take a break. When I stood up the board slid out from under me and started making it’s way down the mountain without me. In turn, I was forced to chase it, as it caused other snowboarders and skiers to dodge and avoid my board and me. The people who caught my board were in there twenties and did not have any sympathy for the situation and laughed at me for being scared to fall off the mountain. If I ever try snowboarding again, I will know not to take off the snowboard while on the mountain and that’s how I learned my
I looked up at the morning sky painted in hues of purple and pink. The crisp air tickled at my nose. I stood in front of the open passenger door of the truck while waiting for Jacob to give me further instructions. I found Jacob on one of those mountain-climbing adventure websites. He had the highest rating of all the Mountaineers featured.
It was a cold day, so cold that your arms start to sting as if a needle is impaling the surface of your skin. The wind applies a force which feels as if your face is oozing with thick crimson red blood. The gray puffy clouds covered the sky and dropped small snowflakes onto the road’s surface. A man stood there, freezing, clearing the coat of thick white snow from the concrete road. His nose runs with a river of snot that floods out when the cold wind strikes. His sense of smell is heavily clogged by the slimy snot, but he can still smell the scent of the steamy hot chocolate which sits on the top of his snow covered car. His feet start to numb because of the cold flood which soaks through his boots to his white, silky socks. His feet feel as if he stepped into the freezing cold ocean. As if he fell through ice and he was stuck standing there. The vast pile of the ice white snow feels almost like a quicksand around his black rubber boot. Foggy figures of people shovel the big piles of snow off the sidewalks. They scrape and pick at the glossy white ice which sticks to the sidewalk like a little boy clinging to his mother's side. His feet still sting as if he was stepping on pins and needles. His hands are damp with sweat from grasping the curved metal shaft attached to a socket which holds the blade. The blade cuts holes into the thick powdered snow which is removed from the endless pile. The jet black shovel is filled with slushy snow and crystal shards of ice. The end of
When the sun slowly peeps over the range of mountains, birds shake the morning dew off their feathers and give a cheerful song that would lift even the most sorrowful of spirits. A light fog wraps around the mountain range, reaching to touch every bit of life thriving there. The slight chill in the air is enough to give a gentle shiver, but not enough for the need of a jacket. A breeze tickles the trees, making their leaves shake and sway with laughter. Sunlight seeps in past the thick canopy of branches with hopes of being able to reach the damp mountain earth. The mountains are the best place to live to be relaxed, see the most beauty, and never get bored.
Over the summer, my family and I drove up to Maine in order to visit my grandpa and relax. For the past couple of years, my dad and I have planned a few days to go hiking. We got into hiking a couple of years ago when we first discovered Tumbledown Mountain. After our first hike together, we were entranced by the beauty of nature and peacefulness that we were eager to plan more. This became a tradition because my dad and I rarely get to spend a lot of time together due to our busy schedules.
