For the purpose of this essay the author sought to explore PDSA cycle and identified health promotion in mental health patients as an area for service improvement. It is evident that the life of patients suffering from psychosis, mood and behaviour disturbances is failing. Tranter et al (2012), Happell et al (2013) and Robinson and Potts (2014) suggest that these patients suffer from various physical health conditions such as coronary heart disease, respiratory problems, diabetes and cancers which consequently leads to a reduced life expectancy of 10 -20 years compared to the general population. According to Tranter et al (2012) there are three types of interventions which can be used to improve the health and wellbeing of patients suffering from mental illness. Problem Statement: The World Health Association defines ‘good’ health as: “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” However, in the United States, access to care and funding for mental health care are grossly neglected and underfunded in comparison to other aspects of health care.

Research Stimulation Task: The evaluation of mental illnesses to those that are being diagnosed serve as a basis to alter their way of living, that is to make effective and positive changes. Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health condition disorders that affect your mood, thinking, and behaviour. It is irresistible to act upon knowing the illness you hold and what level it is in the spectrum, and the clarity of your reactions becomes intuitive to society.

In today’s society there is a greater awareness of mental illnesses. With this greater awareness one might assume that there would be a substantial increase in government involvement or funding in the area of mental illness treatment. Unfortunately this isn’t the case in the U.S. today. There are hundreds of thousands of people with mental illness that go untreated. These potential patients go untreated for many reasons. These reasons are discussed in the Time article “Mental Health Reform: What Would it Really Take.

The theory I believe is the most appropriate to use to assess the participant 's situation is the ecological theory also known as the ecosystems theory. The ecological theory analyzes the ways people react and adapt to their physical and social environments. The theory aims to identify the sources of oppression that are found within these systems and address their negative effects. The environment refers to the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem.

The mental health intervention and prevention focus impacts the quality of life. The lack of assessment and underreporting of depression results in lower quality of life and increases disease mortality (Stoop, et al., 2015). Stoop, et al., report (2015) purposed the solution to the lack of mental health care is to incorporate “stepped care intervention”. The report asserts that depression is not recognized by the majority of health care providers as well as not reported by those that do recognize it. Furthermore, the report asserts that “stepped care intervention” is effective therapeutically and financially. The method calls for screening, intervention of education and therapy, followed by continued monitoring (Stoop et al., 2015). Limitation in the method are lack of participation attributed to stigma of mental illness but the effect size of decreased depression shows promise (Stoop et al.,

Students falling into the D/E range should have an individual learning plan, developed with the student and teacher(s), with specific interventions in place. The plan should be monitored on a timely basis and supports should be monitored and changed, if necessary. The plan should include parents and should define their role in helping their child. My role would be to monitor the plans, to help develop an early intervention plan. The plan should be preventative - ongoing progress monitoring of student data to determine students with preexisting risk factors. A system should be developed to recognize early warning signs, before a student gets to a D/E.

With the prevention of mental disorders “To prevent” plainly means “to keep something from happening”. The World Health Organization defines health promotion as “the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health” (WHO, 2002). Prevention main concern is avoiding illness while promotion is about improving health and well-being. A mental health promotion intervention that is aimed at increasing well-being in a community may have the outcome of decreasing the occurrence of mental disorders. Mental health promotion efforts are believed to reduce weakness to a disorder and sometimes prevent a disorder.

There are several various community mental health services available through my research. 3 out of 3 study argued not enough study or research done with their strategies and their studied are in preliminary results. However, those projects can give us a good starting point to expand community mental health services and develop access for those suffer with mental illness.

A personal development plan is a reflection tool that guides an individual toward their personal or professional goals. Goal setting is a powerful process that helps motivate me to turn my personal and professional visions into reality. To complete my personal development plan I’ve included the SMART framework to describe my goals and conducted a personal analysis, which included my strengths, areas for development, opportunities, and threats. The personal development plan allows me to take control of my destiny. Although, goal setting and a written plan is valuable one cannot succeed unless they take action to reach their destiny. Therefore, I have taken the next step in my journey by enrolling in Cardinal Stritch University to obtain my Masters in Business
